Sharing your name with others?

We are not sharing especially because my family swears they have stock in naming our children. We shared when we were TTC DD and listed her name as one of the choices and my mom was the #1 hater. Since then we have decided to stay shut. So we announced her name (Olivia) when she was born and will do the same with this one (Vivian). Though with Vivian, we are torn on a MN and I am tempted to ask my aunt for suggestions... but I won't since DH swore me to secrecy.

We originally weren't going to tell but I caved. We've told family and friends but aren't sharing on FB or anything. So far the only negative reaction we've had was from my grandma, but I could give a flying fuck what my grandma thinks.

We still have come no-where close to having a name. We are actually asking family to throw names at us, as long as they wouldn't be offended when we gave them our honest opinion on them. That being said, we may or may not share the name. We knew DD's name for quite awhile and shared with everyone.

rivers714 my family cannot even pronounce my married last name; I am betting that they will struggle with whatever first names we come up with too lol. My family all are native Spanish speakers, and they all retain thick accents (especially the extended family). But honestly, they will learn how to pronounce whatever we choose, especially after hearing it a lot. I'm not concerned lol

I have only told the names to yall. We got a lot of unwanted opinions last round so we have decided to keep the names to ourselves until the girls are born.

We are not 100% decided yet but I wish everyone would STFU and stop bugging us about what we're going to name this kid. I try to dodge and say, yes, we're talking about names but we haven't decided yet and then they want to know what names we're considering! For some reason it squicks me out to refer to her as an actual name before she's here...like, I don't want to wear it out.

Our current front runner is Frances Augusta....although H is still pushing pretty hard for Alex or Annie (which I would consider as nicknames but he won't even entertain giving her a longer name). I think the nickname would be Frankie.

We did with #1 (Peyton)and with this one as well (Quinn).

We had some family say they didn't like one or the other. But as they were my kids I really couldn't bring myself to care. I wasn't looking for their opinion in the first place.

I've only posted some of our ideas on TB name board...we have now chosen a name but we aren't telling anyone IRL. Our families were fine with it...my dad whined a little but I really didn't want anyone's opinions (it isn't a weird name...but everyone in my family has their idea of what she should be named).

We decided not to share with anyone. At first my MIL didn't understand but now she's gotten over it. We wanted to keep it just between us and not have to hear other peoples opinions.

We announced the minute we decided on a name. I like being able to refer to her by her name instead of just "baby."

My MIL always asks DH if we have a name picked out EVERY time he talks to her. When he tells her that we haven't decided yet, she then asks if we have a middle name picked out. It's irritating. I know she's curious, because what grandmother wouldn't be, but i think she just wants to know so she can tell everyone.

I have a name picked out, but DH hasn't exactly agreed to it yet. He is so opinionated and all of the names he suggests are really unappealing to me. Sometimes I'm not even sure if he's serious, that's how weird they are.

When we do decide, we will probably share it with our families.

My middle name is Frances - people call me Franny.  I love Frances!

I didn't really want to tell people for fear of everyone's opinions (not that it would change it)...but my DH shared it pretty much off the bat and most people at least say they like it so it is what it is. On social media I just call her baby K.

Team green, and though we have some frontrunners, we are not sharing any names or any thoughts on names ahead of time because I don't want MIL's opinion. We want to use Hebrew names, and some of them are very hard to pronounce or just weird-sounding, and while I want to pick something that sounds nice, the meaning behind the name is more important to me and I really don't care if she doesn't like it. She gives them anyway, though--when my H mentioned in passing that he liked a certain girls' name, MIL straight-up said that she wouldn't be able to bond with a grandchild who had that name. For the record, the name was Tzipporah, and no we don't plan to use it because I think the Tz is too confusing for non-Jews. But we've been trolling her by randomly bringing up how much we love the name Tzipporah, as well as other crazy names that we'll never use. I'm sure she's terrified.

I made the rule early on that we couldn't pick a first name with any Tz or Ch, but I've been wavering on that the longer I spend time with people who have them.  So many great names!

We shared the names with both my son and this LO. Her name is Evelyn Louise. For the most part we've had no complaints with the exception of my husbands aunt. She informed us she could live with Evelyn as long as we call her Evie because that's close to Eva which is the name she really wanted, not her kid not her choice. However she let us know she hated Louise as a middle name. We should of course use Ann so she would be named after her, you know since she's the favorite aunt (which is not even close to being true). Louise has never not been an option for us as a girl's middle name. It was both of my grandmother's middle names, my husbands grandmother's middle name, his great grandma's middle, and my middle name.

In case you're wondering...

Benjamin Michael ~ Benjamin was supposed to be DH's name, but for complicated family reasons, it wasn't used and his brother picked his name. Michael was DH's brother's name. He passed at the age of 16 (when DH was only 10) from brain cancer. We always thought we'd go with Michael for a 1st name, but DHs cousin used it for her son a few years ago.

Megan Elizabeth ~ ok so for the longest time, years and years, I was going to name my 1st girl Madeline, after my grandma, who passed in March. The more I thought about it, I decided to changed my mind because the name is soooo popular now (I still think it's a gorgeous name). Anywho, so before my gram passed, she said if she ever had another girl, she would have named her Megan. I think it's a great way for me to still honor my gram and I really like the name. Elizabeth is my middle name, and in all honesty, is the only name I like that fits with Megan.

Love both names! I especially love Megan Elizabeth because 1-the meaning behind it is beautiful. And 2-it's my name (first name Megan-I have no middle name but I picked Elizabeth for my confirmation name). And I don't run into too many Megans

DH doesn't feel comfortable calling babies by a name before they are born or announcing the name to others, so we don't even formally pick a name until late in the pregnancy. I remember talking about the frontrunner name for DS for several months (it was a family name from my father's side that we picked to honor him because he passed away a few months after our wedding). However, I don't think we really "finalized" the first name and settled on a middle name until a week or so before DS was born. We didn't tell anyone, so it was a surprise announcement after DS was born. Honestly, this approach worked fine for me, because it cut down on unsolicited comments and was kind of a fun surprise to share with close friends and family.

DH and I typically trade lists of potential names and, believe it or not, I just received his for this pregnancy yesterday! People sometimes press me to say what my favorite choices are IRL, but I kind of feel like since DH isn't really comfortable discussing names very far in advance, it's better not to share my top picks with others.

I admire you team green ladies! I had no patience, I needed to know as soon as possible. It must be an incomparable feeling to find out at birth. Maybe I will do it when I'm a STM.

In regards to the name, we have shared it with our family and friends. We didn't get any negative feedback, but before we knew the sex we liked the name Maddox for a boy and no one else in our family did. We didn't care. We loved it and were sticking to it.

It's a girl though and she will be Ariana

With DD we didn't decide 100% until she was born. We were team green. I loved the name Olivia since I was a little girl but just felt I needed to see her before committing. And then we decided on the middle name Kathleen after my mom (which I knew I wanted all along but was nervous DH would want to use MIL name. I figured I would wait until he watched me give birth. I knew at that point, he would say yes to ANYTHING)

We are naming DS after FIL that passed away when we were engaged-he was an amazing person and I miss him every day. We have been very open about the fact that if we ever have a boy he will be Joseph. We haven't told anyone his middle name yet. I was a little hesitant but DH is pushing for my fathers name (Albert-NMS at all but I think it's a nice tribute to my dad for his first grandson after 5 granddaughters). So we will have Olivia Kathleen & Joseph Albert
