rungirlrun I would assume a clog if there's no mark or redness on the outside.
I would only assume mastitis if it turned red, you had a fever or were getting chills along with the clog. I often get clogged ducts and it can be sore sometimes.
FWIW last time I had a slight dip supply during the first couple days of my period every month, then it'd go back to normal. Hopefully you get a little more the rest of the week!
melody330, my neighbor is actually some kind of lactation "helper". She's not a licensed consultant or anything, but has given me a lot of pointers and help. When I told her I was having some supply issues she gave me these drops to try. They're called "More Milk Plus (alcohol free)" and made by Motherlove. You can get them on Amazon. They're all natural and organic, and the ingredients are basically what's in Mother's Milk tea. (I'm guessing more concentrated) You take 1 dropper full on your tongue 4 times a day. I was skeptical, but HOLY HELL has it worked. Within 48 hours my supply jumped up considerably. If you're still having some issues pumping they might be worth a try! Obviously, check with your doctor first if you're unsure about supplements.. but they have definitely helped me in the last few days!
This. I also printed out things from Kellymom and gave them to the DC. They said it helped a lot an added it to their packet of things they give to parents.
I will try again. So far they have not been receptive to anything I have said and when i tried to explain that I had researched it, they laughed at me and said all babies are different...
Rage. You are the parent and you are funding their pay check and they're disregarding you. Unbelievable!

I used this with DD1 the last few months before I quit pumping at 11 months. It tastes HORRIBLE but does work.SaveSave
Breastmilk storage question... Its looking like I will be able to take tomorrow off, which means I won't be back to work until Tuesday. (yay!) If that's the case, will what I pump today last until Tuesday in the fridge? or should I freeze it?

KellyMom says 3-8 days for refrigerated fresh milk but that 72 hours is ideal. So I guess at that point it's up to you because the milk would still be good on the 5th day.
If it were me I would probably freeze it and just thaw Tuesday morning to use but I have very little refrigerator space and 2 deep freezers so there is extra room there.
sarcaztic10, thanks. I just found that too. I think I'm leaning towards freezing it just to be safe. It will also be a good excuse to rotate out some of my freezer stash.

STMs: TTMA growth. A has been in the upper 60/low 70%iles and then took a nosedive to 28%ile with a measly quarter of a pound gain between 4-6 months of age. We have to go back in 6 weeks for a weight check. Dr. Google tells me this could be normal, BF babies tend to bulk up in the first 4 months and then slow down. He's also an incredibly active munchkin, so I'm hoping it is that. My concern is that the dr is going to recommend supplementing and I don't want that to affect the BFing relationship.

Honestly, and this is me, if my child was growing and happy with plenty of diaper output, I would not supplement. I've seen many pediatricians be very reactionary and not understand or respect (or care) about breastfeeding relationships. I switched pediatricians at 9 months because I realized that I dreaded visits with out first awful doctor and (lightbulb!) I was hiring and paying him. It was my business to lose. I've never been happier.

+1 to this. I'm a FTM, but definitely have the same mindset. I've also mentioned before, but my LC told me there are separate growth charts for breastfed and formula fed babies, but most peds only use the one for formula fed. So I might ask about that too!

madamewaffles S went from 30% at birth to upper 50% at 2 months and then down to 30% again at 4 months. BF babies weight fluctuates a bit from what I have read and that is totally normal. It won't always be the steady upward growth of a formula fed baby. If you are seeing normal amounts of wet and poopy diapers then I wouldn't worry too much about it.

Thank you cabbagecabbage , ginabini , and sarcaztic10 . I should know better than to let his rigid, cookie cutter recommendations nurse get the best of me (the same nurse who tells me I need to wait 5 days between intro-ing new solids. At that rate, he'll be in college by the time we intro everything). A's pedi is much more flexible and crunchy, so I'm thinking she would be a bit more breezy about it. Unfortunately, yesterday's visit was a nurse-only visit, so we didn't get to see her. And she is going on maternity leave by the time his 9 month one rolls around, so I hope we get a good substitute. The only thing I can think of that has changed is that he is napping in his crib now. Previously he was napping with a boob in his mouth. Otherwise, he is not fussing for boob, he has rolls, he doesn't look scrawny.
TL:DR, Thank you, you are likely right, I'm just going to go with it for now. :-)

I agree w everyone else. Trust your gut. A baby's early weight often doesn't mean much, and eventually genetics win out. Are you and your husband on the thinner side? If so, your son might just be heading in that direction. Sorry you're dealing with this added stress. I hate percentages so much.

MH was a string bean up until puberty so I'm guessing that is part of it too. I'm an anomaly since my physique was influenced by genetic disorder (that A does not have, he is a carrier, but does not present with symptoms), so I feel like my history is skewed, lol. Save

Okay, since I'm full of questions: DS uses primarily Munchkin LATCH bottles to feed with the size 1 flow nipple. My mom (who is the primary bottle giver) says when she feeds him, he gets frustrated with the flow and ends up just playing with and gnawing on the nipple. Is that something worth upgrading to the next level of flow or are other factors at play here, such as distractedness or teething?

I think this might be personal preference/trial & error kind of thing. With DS1 we never moved up to the next level nipple.
I was worried he would start to prefer the bottle and get lazy at the boob if the bottle was so much easier. You can always try it out, and if you see him start to have a preference for the bottle move him back.

It could be distractedness or some other non-nipple related issue. The only definite sign I've heard for needing to move up to a faster flow nipple is if they are consistently collapsing the nipple when sucking. If he seems satisfied with what he's getting, I would wait a bit and see if it gets better on its own first. Fwiw DD1 used level 1 nipples til 12 mo.
S flails his free arm when he is eating.he grabs at my shirt and claws at me. Do any other babies do this?
This is the main reason we haven't unswaddled at night. Because nothing wakes you up like being clawed in the face and chest.
I hand mine a lovey or a blanket and he usually just snuggles it. But sometimes there is nothing that will stop him, I just take it and hope for the best.

Yep all the time. Somehow despite me cutting his nails regularly, they are always like razor blades. He scratches, punches, hits. Fun! I just go with it and wear my battle scars proudly. I'll hold his hand when it gets bad.

Another question: how much coffee does everyone drink?
I usually have 2 cups per day but sometimes wish I could have 3 on days that S get me up a lot at night or really early in the morning. Just wondering what everyone else does.

I've tried limiting coffee and it doesn't do crap for B. So I drink like.....3-5 cups a day.

I don't drink coffee or any caffeine, and I still have a crappy sleeper. So I'm going to say there is no correlation. But if there is, I don't want to imagine my baby if I was a coffee drinker!
