Last night was rough, but enjoying some baby snuggles. Toddlers at daycare and I work again tomorrow so I'll enjoy his snuggles. I'm thinking his reflux is bothering him again. The dairy free diet has helped the other symptoms but it's caused him to spit up more and crying after feelings. Plus still getting very uncomfortable at night despite holding him upright after feeds and use of RNP. Might have to request medicine. Just not sure if I'm over reacting and this is normal reflux stuff or kind that needs meds.
Good morning! I can play on here today and for a while until I go back to work!
Today the movers are coming to move our stuff from our moving pods to our storage unit down the street. I'm so over moving I'm more than happy to pay someone else to do it!
We're all moved in and DD has been sleeping in her crib in her own room for the past few nights, it's so weird because in our old house one of us would sleep in the living room where her PNP was. Right now she's STTN and I'm enjoying every day of it because I know it'll end soon!
I have a question about starting solids. DS is 4.5 months. The pedi said we can start anytime with cereals and purees. I know the AAP just changed their recommendation for solids to 6 months and starting on table foods. What are your thoughts on this?

We wait until 6 months. Partly due to laziness They don't *need* solids this young, and some research suggests that waiting for their guts to mature a bit more csn possibly decrease the likelihood of food allergies. Since we already have a lot of food allergies, we take any chance to decrease our risk.

It depends on your comfort level. There's a new school of thought on waiting until 6 months and skipping the puréed all together. With DD I waited until 5.5 months and did some puréed foods. Once she could sit up I did "Baby Led Weaning" aka giving "real food". This time I don't think I'll do purees really at all and just wait until 6 months. I do think DD is a good eater bc I introduced all kinds of foods at an early age. Of note she didn't have teeth and was able to eat everything. But BLW isn't for everyone.

Thanks! Waiting until 6 months is kind of how I was leaning too. The allergies make a strong argument with waiting.

Plus your baby is already 4.5 months because of being born extra early. I'm not sure if his gut maturity is the same as a baby born at full term and is 4.5 months? I would personally wait until 6 months at a minimum
Hi ladies! Hope you have all been well. It's been a little while since I've checked in. I went back to work, and although it's only part time, it has been hectic. DD3 hasn't been sleeping well, and DH wakes her up pretty much every night, so I'm exhausted. Hoping to start posting again more often.

Ohhh yeah I would definitely wait until, at absolute minimum, 5 months adjusted age

Why is your H waking up the baby?!
Right? Rule of the house here is "don't poke the sleeping bear"!

This is what I thought. I was surprised when the pedi said just wait a little longer.
pbandjelly It's actually kind of nice when all they need is milk, so I would just enjoy it and wait a little longer.
youdontsay I am definitely jealous of your sleep, but you deserve it for dealing with all that moving nonsense!
I'm at a doctor appointment all by myself, so that's pretty good. I'm having a skin cancer check, though, and I'm feeling kind of nervous. I've never done this before but basically all appointments are free after having the baby, so here I am!
Good morning. Yesterday we had ds2's baptism. It was very nice and we had a lot of family here for it. However, all day was basically pass-the-baby, so his schedule was super off. He slept so, so badly last night. Up all night long. We ended up putting him in the rock n play around 4, which helped a little.
DH is traveling all week, so I am hoping that having a normal day schedule will help him sleep better tonight. Otherwise, send me all the coffee!
My baby will not sleep past 3/4am. That's the first wake up of the night. After eating, she's so unsettled and won't go back to sleep.
Her eating's been off. Her day sleeping has been a little wonky. Transitions, man.
Bright side? She's been lying on her playmat for nearly a half hour hitting the dangling fish and laughing at herself in the mirror. She's really not a sleepy newborn anymore.
I'm a little frustrated this morning. H and I went out of town overnight, just us, and my parents watched DS at our house. They live just a few hours away, while the ILs live over 10 hours away. MIL was going to call H yesterday just to check in and see how things are, then she found out that my parents watched DS overnight and she decided not to call H. Obviously H is hurt and annoyed about this and I'm just pissed that she's acting this way. It's not like she would have been able to come watch him this weekend, she lives so far away. And we get that she hates being so far away, but she's acting so irrationally right now. Way to ruin our fun weekend, MIL, with your childish behavior.

Not on purpose! She is an incredibly light sleeper. Even with just sheets rustling as we move around in bed and she will start stirring. He comes to bed later and inevitably coughs, drops something, or even when he opens the door quietly she will wake up sometimes.
We need to buy a new video monitor and I'm going to move her to her own room. Our current monitor is going out so I don't feel comfortable moving her until I can get a new one.
ETA: This is even with a sound machine on! She is such a light sleeper.
How do you know when to add more ounces to bottles? We have been doing 3 ounces per bottle and it still seems like he spits up quite a bit, so I assumed that he wasn't ready for more. But daycare said they gave him 4 ounces. Maybe they're just better at feeding?? But also maybe that's why he wakes up so much at night, he's actually not full.

When they reliably eat the whole bottle most of the time, I increase it by half an ounce and see what happens.

I go by readiness signs, with being able to sit up in our regular high chair that does not recline being key. Loss of tongue thrust and seeming hungrier too. I adore making purées for my babies (I know it's not trendy like baby led weaning, but it is so fun). Recent research seems to show a protective effect against allergies in a varied diet starting between 4 and 6 months. So you can wait if you want but you can start after you see the readiness signs of you want too.
Yogurt, peanut butter, and meats are my favorite. We wait on those until 6 months. I kid not, DD2's favorite purée was acorn squash and liver.
ETA: I see dc2london has seen the opposite in allergy research. She sees an actual allergist. I am going on what my pedi told me and I read.
I'm so foffing done with progesterone-only pills. I've been on them before and swore I never would be on them again, but my IUD isn't in and at the time I was still pumping. The random, heavy spotting is killing me. The headaches are bad and I can't remember to take it at the right time every day.

Science of Mom has a nice overview of the research and stances on starting solids, including a list of the readiness signs. I think anyone who pays attention to their kid and chooses to start not before 4 months and not after 6 months is doing great.
