I might live on this board as well I work in healthcare as well and have strong feelings about this. I think this is great. You could find a quote and site it to show how disastrous it would be( I'm sure there are plenty ) but not totally necessary. I think it's clear and following up to talk to your senate reps is perfect. I've been thinking about trying to get people to call in to our senate reps as well. I took a class in nursing school all about legal nursing and our teacher encouraged us to call and said they really do listen. I'm also concerned with how Trump wants to overturn Roe v Wade and leave abortions up to the states. So some women will be able to, some won't, and if a woman lives in a state were its illegal and also doesn't have health insurance, that's a scary thought.

Oh, but he cleared that up last night on 60 minutes- they can just go to another state. On their private plane, of course. /sarcasm font
lol I know I saw that too.. the wall will be more like a fence in some areas 🙄
The only reason I could "afford" insurance was because of the ACA. In fact that is the only reason I could get covered too because of my thyroid condition name fibroids. When I got pregnant with HL my on wanted $600 per appointment and told me to sign up for Medicaid. I was lucky to get covered for the Pregnancy but my coverage expires Jan. 1st. I have no idea what to do now. I can't afford insurance through H's job at $800 a month to add me on. Income size under the ACA I would be able to get subsidies but because of the "self only" affordability clause and H paying only $45/ mth the fact I can get insurance, no matter how high the price, means I can't use the subsidies I otherwise qualify for. It is a well known glitch in the ACA. It's actually called the "Family glitch". The glitch needs to be resolved.
penguin129 I'm sorry to hear that. There are definitely issues with the ACA. You are experiencing one of them.
Have you worked with an ACA certified enrollment counselor to make sure all your options have been explored?
Not yet. It is on my list of things to do. I want to get AG's insurance in order first. Last fall there were some insurance agents outside of our local grocery store selling Blue Cross and Blue Shield policies that told me I could get the subsidies even though I was offered insurance (albeit super un-affordable) through H's job. I almost signed up with them and then canceled because they were just tooo fishy. Thus the $300/mth policy with a $7,500 deductible I ended up buying because it was all we could "afford".

I just read this about the ACA and I felt like I was tripping when I got to the part about Mitt Romney - a Republican presidential candidate - and the mandate in MA. I knew that. But to re-read it in light of the current climate is just...wow.

My understanding with the affordable care act is that the vast majority of Americans have a pre-existing condition and insurances don't want most of their clients to cost a lot of money, so in turn mandating people to get health insurance causes more healthy people to be on plans that maybe won't not have been if they couldn't afford it. That way, the more expensive clients are balanced out with healthy clients who don't require much than a yearly physical. They pay but don't cost a lot.
