Sorry for the uncertainty Quinstar, I hope you can get some answers soon
Is there anything you can do to help reduce pelvic pain? Between walking eleventy miles this weekend and my tennis match this morning, my pelvic bone feels like it's being split in two and it hurts like hell. I've taken Tylenol but it isn't really helped
I'll let y'all know what my doctor consult says tomorrow because that's basically what I am going in for. Unrelenting killer pelvic bone pain. So far I will say that ice and LOTS of rest has helped but that is not always feasible so yeah
I don't know why paid maternity leave is not a thing here in the US. Like, at least give us 6 paid fucking weeks; you know the time it actually AT A MINIMUM takes to recover. "Holding" my job for me is great and all but it is absolutely unacceptable that after the birth of a baby, my company is going to just straight up stop paying me while I recover. Like, are you fucking kidding me with this. JFC
@cosmiccav my boss asked me today if I thought I might be back on 4/17, and up for trying a case with her. I really appreciated her thinking of me as a second chair since I'm youngish and need experience, but my due date is 3/25. She didn't seem to care either way, just wanted to let me know I am her first choice.
However, she also randomly said "I know you'll need at least 4 weeks" so you won't be able to do it if the baby doesn't come a little early...which lead me to believe that 12 weeks might be a little longer than people are expecting me to take. (Despite the fact that I actually get 12 weeks paid. I'm new here, but that made me think it's one of those policies offered that people don't actually take advantage of/you aren't supposed to take advantage of especially if you started at 4 months pregnant.)
Anyway- the fact that I am now scheduling into March and April daily has me stressing about finalizing my maternity leave/childcare stuff.
obi - do you know why the acceptable range of blood sugar numbers are lower for GD then for type 2? I had someone ask me and I didn't have any idea. my mom keeps telling me that my numbers are so low (and they are compared to what her range is).
My best guess without looking into it is the acute risk to the baby. Type 2 diabetics have treatment goals that are for long-term health and reduction of potential complications and comorbidities. With GD, your treatment goals are directly related to the health of the baby. High blood sugars can lead to higher birthweight, which is the most common/likely issue but in serious cases can lead to
Like I said, that is just my best guess, though. I'm type 1 so most of my knowledge base is in that area. My own targets become WAY tighter when I am pregnant than what they are ordinarily.
Quinstar , I am sorry being in limbo, hopefully everything turns out fine!
updated to add: I agree with obi
callmeKD , I am not obi but I liked your question and hope it's okay if I give some thoughts... I wonder if the difference has to do with 1: the baby can have direct negative impacts from increased blood glucose, whereas in type 2 DM, the effects are cumulative over a long period of time, which may be a little more "forgiving" for individual increases in sugar and 2: It may be more realistic for a woman, who otherwise hasn't had a problem, to keep her sugars down for a "short" period of time then to have a number that is not realistic for all people with type 2 diabetes to achieve (for a number of reasons). Also, gestational diabetes doesn't quite affect your sugar levels the exact same way as type 2 Diabetes, so that may be a part of it (your fasting glucose is more affected in type 2 than in Gestational, which can't be directly controlled with diet as easily).
We just covered diabetes a couple weeks ago, but I'm definitely not an expert so grain of salt
There is a rib on my right side that is killing me. I can't get comfortable, especially sitting at a desk, which is pretty much all I do.
My sister let me borrow her Doppler, which has been fun to play with

Move. To. Canada.
Real talk. The government pays for 1yr maternity leave and your work is required to hold your position for that time. They are not required to pay you but some companies do offer "top ups" to the government payments. Gov payments are 55% of your regular salary, based on your best earning weeks. Because I did a lot of OT at my old job I got way more than 55% of my regular pay, since they went by my "best earning weeks" to calculate it. You only get this if you work though so I dont qualify this time around since I SAH.
ALSO, once you have a baby, if you make less than $250k a year you get the monthly Child Benefit payments which are based on household income. So, for me, I get $330/month and that will double when this baby arrives.

seriously... OH CANADA
COME BE MY NEIGHBOUR/NEIGHBOR.
I'm jelly. We seem to be behind other counties is so many ways.
I would love to move there and be your neighbor/neighbour obi. I would even put "u"s in words for everyone's equilibrium. Sadly it's not in the cards for us to move at this point but I will continue to dream.
obi seriously?! I literally can't even imagine. Do people routinely take the year?
I think its fair to say they routinely take the year. Some people dont because the 55% isnt enough or they dont want to put their career on pause that long. Id say it is the norm though. It is also materity/parental leave. The first 12 weeks are strictly maternity leave, then the remaining weeks can be split however you see fit between you and your spouse. It just has to be consecutive. So mom can take the first however many weeks and then spouse can take the remainder. It works well if mom is the breadwinner. She gets the time to physically recover and then spouse can take the rest at 55% of their lesser pay. This also applies to adoptive parents. I dont know if the first 12 weeks are strictly maternity in that case though.

I don't know how I'm going to make it another 14-18 weeks if my back keeps hurting like this. I took tylenol in hopes of walking on the treadmill but getting out of DS's bed is going to be a struggle.

I've been doing some stretches and it's been helping. Especially cat/cow, I think it's called, if you do any yoga.
If you have a foam roller and don't mind looking completely ridiculous, rolling my back out, then my hips and hip flexors, really helps, too. My hips almost feel bruised when I do it, it's crazy.

I've been horrible about stretching. I'm hoping after taking it easy tonight I'll feel better tomorrow morning. I'm going to try to stretch then.
