I'm off work today because our band concert is tonight. I should probably pull out the music that I haven't looked at in 3 weeks now.
I'm still debating if I am taking J to daycare or not. Part of me wants to keep his same schedule, but the other part of me wants to spend time with him. I need to take my elfster ornament to the post office and find a black shirt to wear tonight, and I'm thinking those would be easier by myself.
I also need to wash the mountain of sippy cups and non-dishwasherable dishes. Because H won't do it and being gone 14 hours a day means I'm not doing it at 11 pm, so...yeah.

Take him for part of they day and pick him up early. Then you can have your "me time" to do your housework/ errands and then still spend time with J.
Rough night and both kids ended up in bed with us. Which means I feel like I slept on rocks. But, DS had a good drop off! I've been trying to teach him his letters and he's just not that interested. Every time I ask him what a letter is he says "W". I'm like, where is he getting this obsession with W? Well today as they started circle time they told DS to sit at his spot on the rug, which is on the letter W. Ohhhhh. Now I see.
LO had a good morning. Last night he and DS were running back and forth across the living room (normal night time routine) and DS would say "ready, set" and LO would scream "GO!!!!" as they took off. It was so cute.
Holy hell I am tired today. I fell asleep early putting Gianna to bed. Then I woke up at 1 and couldn't go back to sleep thinking about my interview today. And then when I finally fell asleep a couple of hours later Gianna woke up.
On the bright side, I came into work today to decorations, muffins, brownies, and donuts from my coworkers for my birthday
POOF
Plus I have tomorrow and all of next week off, wahoo! I just need to get through this day and this interview!
BTW Ladies in the NY area, anyone still up for a meet up next week?
mrsmonogrammed, I'm so glad that you were able to be there for your friend. Make sure to continue to check in with her, even if it's just a random text letting her know you're thinking of her, it means so much.
I'm currently on a bus to see the National Philharmonic Orchestra with my students. It's one of my favorite things every school year. It's all second graders at the concert. One part of the concert is singing a song, that the students learn in music class, with the orchestra. The kids get SO excited to do it and it melts my heart every single time. After we get back to school, I have the rest of the afternoon to myself because I'm allotted a half day substitute. I believe I'll be professionally developing myself at the new outlets that opened, Costco, Target, or at home. Or any combination of those. Yay for some me-time where I'm not stuck in bed with a migraine!!

It's lunchtime, which means I now just have to get through the afternoon before my weekend! It was a rough night here, too - DS was coughing/crying off and on, so I'm now completely paranoid he has whooping cough thanks to the outbreak at his day care (though still no fever, and my mom says he hasn't been coughing much at her house), and H has either the flu or a man cold, but I think flu. I'm regretting that we've dragged our feet so damn much on the flu shot this year.
The good news is I have mac 'n cheese for lunch, and I'm 99.9% certain pizza is happening for dinner tonight. So if my sore throat could go away and let me be healthy tomorrow and the rest of the weekend, I'll still call it all a win.
billyhorrible is thanksgiving at your house? Yay lunch! Where you going? What you getting? I am very excited for you.
Thanksgiving is always and forever at my mom's house. Most of us are on the west coast, but even when we weren't, all my relatives fly in from wherever they are. And then we invite friends, my parents' students, one year we even had someone from my first BMB because they were new to the area. It's big, so ever since my dad died I've stepped in and helped my mom.
I'm going to a restaurant near my office that's closing next month. Well, that particular location is closing. I haven't figured out what I'm having yet. Tacos? Sandwich? Wanna pick for me?
billyhorrible I'm trying to plan out Thanksgiving dishes as well. I'm bringing Chinese cabbage salad to my in-laws (MIL's request). For my parent's Thanksgiving I was assigned a casserole type deal and I was thinking this wild rice and broccoli one from pioneer woman but the reviews aren't that great. Do you have a better idea? www.foodnetwork.com/recipes/ree-drummond/broccoli-wild-rice-casserole.html

Happy birthday belle0720! We're almost birthday twins...I beat you by one day.
Speaking of which, I remembered that my birthday being Saturday means my drivers license expires in 2 days, so I took DD to the DMV with me this morning to get a new one. Do not recommend.
blueskiessmiling My driver's license is expiring too! I had to go in for a vision test and new picture this year and just remembered last week and was luckily able to make an appointment about 30 minutes away. Thank God I had an appointment because the line for walk-ins was INSANE and it still took me almost an hour even with an appointment.

veggiemo that recipe sounds good, how sad the reviews aren't great. Are you looking for some kind of veggie casserole? Or grain side dish? (Was that recipe attractive for the broccoli or the rice?)

Both, but the veggie part is probably more what I'm gearing towards. I was trying to do something other than green bean casserole and I saw PW making this on TV. So I called my mom, told her about it and she said it sounded really good. Then I saw the 3.5 out of 5 stars and I was bummed. TBT I haven't actually read the reviews yet to see what the problem was.
ETA: Please, everyone feel free to offer a suggestion if you have one!
I would make some quinoa and do a quick saute of brussels sprouts, butternut squash, and mushrooms (so they get that nice browny crispiness).
Combine the veggies and quinoa, and mix in walnuts (if you have no allergy issues) and cheese (I'd go with goat, but not everyone likes that, parmesean, gruyere, comte would work well, something mild), salt and pepper.
Pour into your casserole dish, sprinkle some more of the mild cheese on top, and bake till the cheese is bubbly.

veggiemo, I say screw the reviews and try it. I looked at the recipe because I'm forever looking for new side/veggie recipes, the bad reviews said it was bland. I think if I were going to make it I'd just make sure to season the veggies with enough salt/pepper, and then use Italian breadcrumbs instead of Panko, but it looks yummy! Besides, it did get mostly positive reviews.

Also, is this where my Thanksgiving confession is I'm really bitter about the fact that we're going to FIL's house for Thanksgiving dinner itself, and H told him I was going to make my cornbread and sausage stuffing that I make every year, which is the BEST, and he was like, "oh, no need. I'm making some stuffing with sausage and apples." So I'm making a cake instead, but I really want my damn stuffing.

Sounds delish! I do have a veggie/quinoa/cheese casserole that I haven't made in awhile. This adds some new twists to make it more Thanksgiving-y! Thanks, I'm gonna run with it!

Aha, thanks for doing the leg work for me! That surprises me because the dishes I've made of hers in the past have been quite flavorful! I also thought it might be missing some cheese, which could add some good nutty and salty-ness.
