It's been a while since we've done one of these, and as we hit 1-year I'm realizing I have questions and am trying to work out where I want our BFing journey to go beyond a year...figuring there may be some others here too.
I'm torn about where I want BFing to go, things are still going well, it would be nice to get through flu season, but I'd like to ditch my pump, and I'm so tired of leaky boobs, and I'd like my boobs to go back closer to normal size, and I'd like to be able to get dressed without thinking about access.

I am still weaning, doing it very gradually. I am down to 3 pumps a day, around 15 oz. I am dropping to 2x in the next week and will sit there for a couple weeks and then drop to 1x. Found this so much easier than a faster weaning as it had me so emotional. MH is now missing the flexibility of fresh BM. lol
We're still at it. I was planning to slowly drop to 2 pumps per day at work after her first birthday, but still pump at that rate for a few months to avoid finding a milk alternative but I am having a hard time finding time to get 3 pumps in at work. At least it's a short week next week. Things are mostly going fine. I am working towards taking a few more of her triggers out of my diet. It is going to be hard to go grain free.
We are still at it. I've noticed we've been pulling from the freezer stash vs adding to it lately. MH gives a bottle at night a lot, and we give a straw cup with milk sometimes at dinner, and I don't pump to replace either so that's primarily why. I still have about 250oz in the freezer and I expect his milk consumption will probably decline a bit now that he's turning one in a couple weeks so I think it's fine. We should probably just do water in the cup with meals at this point, no?
I may drop a pump here pretty soon. I pump 4x a day the days I go into the office, including once while driving.. it's a lot.
That is a lot geners. I'm down to once or twice a day. I'm usually short of replacing whatever she drinks during the day, but so far we've still been fine EBF days I'm home.

I'm here too! Not sure where I want to go either. She is still not taking bottles at day care so my pump sessions are mostly to keep my supply up when I'm with her. She get some in oatmeal during the day while she's there. I would love to ditch the pump sooner than later but don't really want to wean fully. I would like to do a wake up and before bed session through cold and flu season.
We're still here but I'm going to be weaning very shortly...I've already stopped pumping at work and she's been getting WCM (about 6oz total) when I'm at work 2 days per week. I'm a little worried about how she's going to take no longer breastfeeding, especially in the mornings, but I'm ready to have my body back. Plus, I still haven't gotten a period back despite being down to 2 nursing sessions per day on work days - we are hoping to TFAS at some point, but I need to get my body back on track first.
Any tips from those have some experience with this weaning process? I know they say to drop least favorite sessions first, but do I replace those with a sippy of milk or offer a solid food snack?
We are still here too at almost 13 months. I have been done pumping for a couple of weeks now. On weekdays we nurse in the morning and then once or twice after daycare depending on what he wants. Sometimes he doesn't want to nurse before bed and lets me know by biting. Thanks kid. One the weekends we usually add in a session or two randomly throughout the day. He will come up and either point to my boob or shove his face in my chest when he wants to nurse. Subtle, of course.
He gets one cup of WCM with lunch at daycare and just breastmilk and water on the weekends. He gets water with other meals and throughout the day.
We were together basically 24 hours a day for the last week and usually nursed 4-5 times so my body is all confused today. I plan on breastfeeding as long as he wants. He isn't shy when he is done and weaned himself from the mid-morning and mid-afternoon a couple of months ago. I have to take a 3 day trip without him in March so if we are still going then, that could be the end. I guess we'll see.
ETA: We are ready to start to TFAS but I still don't have my period back. I thought it would come back when I stopped pumping and dropped sessions but apparently not. I have been ready for a while but am not willing to wean completely to get it back. Waiting game continues...

OMG, the not so subtle "I want boob NOW" cues! Iz has taken to trying to pull my shirt down if motorboating me doesn't get her what she wants immediately.

Yes! I always wear Undercover Mama tank tops and pull my shirt up so he has, on multiple occasions, pulled my shirt up in public. Silly kids!

We're still chugging along but this thread makes me a little sad. R is so indifferent to nursing these days. F was such a different baby. Even at a year he was all about the boob and was constantly pulling my shirt up or down. R has never done that. I have silly worries that he will wean sooner than I'd like. Which is probably crazy since I've been nursing nonstop for almost 3.5 years now. And since he nurses to sleep all the time he'll probably nurse forever just like F.
How often are your little ones nursing when your with them all day? R is really content with 3 times a day for the last few months. He nurses to sleep for both naps and bed and that's all he's doing during the day. He does nurse all night long too so I'm sure he's getting enough. That's probably not even an issue at 1.5 weeks to his birthday. But I just worry and have mom guilt about it. Breastfeeding has just been a challenge ever since he reached the distracted stage (5ish months). I worry that I made it worse by following his cues around 6 or 7 months when I should have offered way more. Maybe I could have gotten us out of this reverse pattern then. I don't think I can now. Stupid mom guilt.
HelgaHuffle, no need for the mom guilt! You're doing great. You do such a great job with your boys, without a doubt they are gettig what they need.
Are you still nursing F? I never saw anything about you weaning him so I wondered. If you don't mind me asking, did you have issues nursing F when you were pregnant? I don't have immediate plans, obviously, but if M wants to continue nursing when I am eventually pregnant I am curious as to what I might have to deal with.

RoLoMa Yes, he still nurses to sleep at night. He's never going to stop on his own, I think lol. The only issues I really had were super sore nipples. But it was bearable. My milk dried up pretty early or at least there was so little that I couldn't tell it was there. I think that was around 9 or 10 weeks. He kept on nursing as usual. It didn't seem to bother him at all. My LC told me that colostrum starts around 16 weeks and some LOs shelf wean because they don't like the taste. Once again, it never seemed to bother him lol. If he had a long nursing session during the second half of pregnancy I would start having contractions. I usually just ended the session and drank some water and they went away.

Hey, if mama and kiddo are happy keep on keeping on! I am impressed, I don't know how you do it. I get majorly touched out some days with just one!
Thanks for the info. The contractions are the thing I was kind of worried about. With M's prematurity history, I am pretty sure my OB will tell me to wean by 20 weeks at the latest if I am still breastfeeding when I get pregnant again. But I am not sure M would be willing to continue nursing without any milk anyway. He gets super impatient if I have a slow let down before bed and just bites me and goes to bed without nursing

yes to this! Iz has a new habbit of shoving her hand down my bra and grabbing at whatever boob she isn't nursing...those are the times that I think I may be done sooner than later, I'm just tired of being grabbed.
Weaning/ed here. I actually think we are done nursing (I nursed a couple times of the last couple days because she's been sick but she didn't seem very interested), and just working are way through the 400oz I have left in the freezer. I weaned from the breast just a tad earlier than I did with DD1 (I made it to just a couple days before her first birthday but I didn't have as much frozen). I got AF back and my supply dipped but I knew I had enough frozen to make it a year so I didn't make any effort to get it back.
HI everyone. It has been a long time since I posted here but I hope it's ok I jump in. This thread caught my eye. I too am torn about where I want to go with BF. PLUS my kid is still BF about 7x in 24h...3 of those overnight. He is not eating much in the way of solids yet either compared to my first so I feel like he is still dependent on me. I am trying to get rid of the night feeds but I sleep trained my first and this kid is just not buying it. He can go down awake and without a feed within 30min of bedtime but to get back to sleep in the MOTN I either feed him or screams for 1.5h or more. I have persisted for more than 2 weeks with the MOTN screaming and then gave in. He had HFM last week and didn't want the boob for that 1am feed so I was hopeful he had dropped it but now he wants it back. I'd like to see how I feel about BF when I get down to 5x a day with no night feedings. Also, I am feeling stressed about his lack of solids intake so that may push me to wean sooner. With my first I weaned cold turkey at 5m for trying IVF again so this is new territory for me. To answer pp questions if I am home he will want to nurse every 2-3h in the day. With my work day he had to do two 4h stretches.
We're still nursing. He gets 3 feeds in the day and then one at bedtime and one/two MOTN. He got a vaccination today so I asked the nurse whether to cut down and she said no to cutting down but also no more than three feeds in 24 hours. So I'm confused, because those are mutually exclusive! I'm sure we will figure it out. No rush to wean. I can't remember what happened with big sister, but I know she dropped her last feed at 20 months, so I'm guessing we'll go to around then as well.
lormor agreed- why 3? Margs still nurses 8+ times a day. Each baby will be different about it.
Yeah, I'm also puzzled. We were having a conversation about solids and she was saying that now he can eat anything. So I asked if it's time to start dropping feeds and she said no. Then as an afterthought she said the thing about no more than 3 in 24 hours. But maybe it was no less than 3 in 24 hours. I emailed her today for clarity. Will let you know.
