The new sids guidelines recommend staying in our room for a year but who knows what that will be like!
My response to this is still: nope nope nope.
It's a "to each their own" thing but it's a giant no in our house. In their own rooms as soon as possible for all our sanities... DS was a wiggler and stomper and we woke for everything sound. After about 6 months, he would cry to get in our bed but then wouldn't sleep, he wanted to play. He is still like that to this day

hpnegirl yes definitely to each their own! I have no idea what to expect I just want to be prepared with a place for her to sleep if we do keep her with us for a year.
Me: 32, Wife: 38, Together for 5 years, Married for 2 years IUI #1 (8/2016): Letrozole, Ovidrel, Crinone = BFN IUI #2 (9/2016): Letrozole, Ovidrel, Endometrin = BFP!! EDD 5/26/17
I can't imagine having babies in the room till they're a year. There's no way that would have worked with DS. I think we lasted 4 mos with him.
I haven't started planning a nursery yet. I think I want to do a woodland animals theme but am not sure of colors or anything. DH needs to clear out the room because it's currently his home office. Not sure when that'll happen
Yeah, I also really want to do a bassinet but worry about spending a lot of money on the one I want then still needing something for her to sleep in after 5-6 months in our room. The new sids guidelines recommend staying in our room for a year but who knows what that will be like!
we used a bassinet for 3 mos, then I found I needed to put him in his own room to get enough sleep to be functional when I went back to work. I think cosleeping is awesome but DS just tossed a lot, and woke up at the crack of dawn every AM when we tried it. Every kid is different, it just didn't work for us.
We're going with a bassinet for our room to start, largely because of breastfeeding. My only concern there is the cats.
I haven't fully read the thread yet but my anecdote here is that we had the PnP set up in our room for a few weeks prior to DS and yes, we found a cat in there but after DS came the cat wanted nothing to do with him and the PnP anymore. So hopefully your cats will be turned off by the tiny creature in the bassinet
We lasted 2 months with DS in our room. We all slept better once he went into his room. We'll just play it by ear with this LO but hell no to a year. I'm hoping to score a halo bassinet at a consignment shop rather than using the PnP.
We'll start on the nursery after the holidays. H needs to organize the basement so we can but the spare bed down there. We painted the room a neutral gray long before we were even married so all I really need to do it get furniture and some light decor. I'm not going totally crazy with it. My mom has a crib from when my nephew was little so we may just take that from her to save some money. I'm not moving DS from his crib, he'll be about 23ish months and I truthfully just want him in the crib for containment purposes.

lupincat, keep DS in his crib as long as you can. I have had people look at me like I'm crazy because DD is still in her crib (for a few more days at least) and she'll be 3 in a month. But like you, I like the containment. Plus she likes her crib and she has never tried to climb out so no safety concerns for us. I actually read an article that stated it's best to keep them in the crib until closer to 3 but so many kids are climbers that it's just not possible.
We won't be doing any nursery planning for quite a while. DD was in our room in the pack and play for 6 months- she slept through the night at 7 weeks, so was never an issue for us. We'll do the same with this one unless sleep is a problem. Then I don't know what we'll do. I don't want to lose our guest room, and it's in the basement, so I'm hoping the kids can share a room for a couple years. Anyone have any experience with kids room sharing? Not sure how well it would work...
sleepymonkey We've also gotten lucky and DS has never tried to climb out. Fingers crossed that he never does! There's also that part of me that's like "no, no, no my BABY doesn't need a bed! He'll never need a bed, he's a baaaaaaby!" ;p

I've been slowly planning the nursery. It's hard because this baby's room will be Theo's room.
For Theo, I got a floor-to-ceiling wall decal of koala bears playing in a tree. It took a few hours to put up (the leaves had to be done individually...grrrr...), but it was much less work than painting! We'll be sticking with decals for this baby's room too, I'm thinking either an owl theme or a book theme. There's some really cute stuff on Etsy if you are thinking of decals!
I haven't decided on a color scheme yet, but I'm leaning toward grey and red. I want something gender neutral even though we'll be finding out the sex of the baby.
Our plan (today anyway) is to do a neutral nursery, I'm loving black and white ideas on Pinterest. I also love gray and think if there were two boys, I'd do navy and gray. The future babies' room is a blank slate now. Once we find out the sex of twin B, we'll finalize those decisions.
I will be reusing the current nursery. My DS#2 is only 13 months old and I spent a LOT of time and love creating his nursery, I'm actually sad he won't get to be in it longer than he will be! Since this was a surprise pregnancy and baby #3, and our 4th bedroom is a playroom and isn't a true bedroom anyway since the door is literally attached to the eat-in kitchen, DS#2 will move in with DS#1 and DS#3 will get DS#2's nursery. I might change up a few things and I've already bought a new piece of art work just for DS#3 but it will mostly stay the same since we are (loosely) looking for a new house with 4 true bedrooms anyway. This is another reason why I was secretly hoping for a girl this time so I'd have a GREAT excuse to decorate a new nursery. The nursery is probably my favorite part of pregnancy - I feel like I can pour all my love and excitement into it until the baby arrives!
We did a nursery progress thread on my Oct '15 board and I LOVED it - it was so fun to see everyone's pictures, so I'd be totally down for one of those. I'll post my current nursery and love looking and other people's styles and decor!

Agreed! With DS#1 & 2, they both moved to their rooms at 6 weeks old. However, both their rooms are right next to ours so that helped. But we ALL slept better once we made the move!
We are focusing on DD's big girl room for now until we find out if this one is a boy or a girl. Planning to keep the nursery the same in terms of furniture and layout...just need to change the wall colors, bedding, and decorations. Planning and decorating new rooms is so much fun to me. Hoping to order DD's new bedroom furniture on Black Friday and then get started on this whole process!
Oh and a nursery progress thread sounds like a great idea later. I loved seeing all of the nurseries on my last BMB!

DS was on the other side of the bathroom when he was a newborn, and when we moved last year, our rooms were next to one another. Now that we've moved again, both bedrooms are down the hallway from us and next to one another

DD's room and baby boy's eventual room are on the other side of the house from our room. But because we are pretty sure he'll be going in to his own room after a few weeks, his nursery will be the room right across from ours. That way he'll be close to us and far enough from DD that he won't wake her up MOTN.
We are also in the camp of shifting kids around. DD will be about 2 1/2 when this one is born, so then a few months down the road when we are ready to move him/her out of the bassinet in our room she will move into what is now used as a guest room. That room actually has the furniture in it that I used growing up, which is a full size bed and a dresser with a mirror, and it's all still in good condition so hopefully she will like it. The room is not really decorated right now so we'll probably let her have some fun picking some new sheets and some things to hang on the wall.

I'm resurrecting this because I have a feeling some people are making progress on the nursery. Others, like me, are probably still procrastinating. I have a question about what everyone is planning on doing about bedding. Are you picking bedding and developing your theme around that? That is what we did with DD. We found a set we liked at PBK and bought the sheet, bumper and a small pillow that we put on the rocker. But we only ended up using the bumper for 4 months so I'm thinking this time we won't bother buying one. Since we don't get a quilt or curtains, which is where most of the theme for baby bedding is found, I'm thinking maybe we should just stick with basic colors for the bedding and curtains and build a theme using accessories and wall decals (we probably will leave the walls beige because this isn't going to be his permanent room.)
I was just thinking about this thread too. I'm still procrastinating but now that we know we're having another boy I can get the ball rolling.
I'm not doing a whole lot of decorating aside from some art for the walls. We painted the room a neutral color when we bought the house so that's not an issue. We also decided to move DS1 to a twin bed so that we can just reuse the crib.

We've moved stuff out of the guestroom in preparation. We moved the dresser and bookshelf out so the crib should be able to fit in there along with the queen bed. I think we will keep the changing table in our room for the first few months or in the living room. I'm not sure if the changing table will be able to fit in the guest/new baby room along with the bed and crib. The crib is currently disassembled in the guest closet. I'm not exactly sure where I want the bookshelf yet. I was originally thinking our bedroom, but now I'm thinking maybe the guest closet. So I need to decide on that because right now the books are all on the floor in the guestroom since I know we will anchor the bookshelf to the wall no matter where we put it. Not going to do a whole lot of decorating. We painted that room grey this summer and took down the popcorn ceiling so it's pretty set. We do need a new ceiling fan since the one in there doesn't work. I might get an elephant decal to put over the crib and would like another pair of sheets.
We got rid of the guest bed that was in the nursery and I'm 95% done cleaning out the closet. I need to find a new place for a few items were keeping. We bought shelves for the closet so I'll finish the closet this weekend at the latest!
The walls are painted navy blue and staying that color. Were doing a superhero theme so I picked solid sheets in different colors and will bring in the theme with art on the walls and hopefully some throw pillows for the window seat area.
DH has started moving the office out of the twins room. But now he's super busy at work so it's a mess.
We won't do bedding (didn't with DS either). Just doesn't seem worth it. We bought DS bedding when he moved to his toddler bed and will do the same this time.
I bought pictures from etsy for the nursery and am waiting for them to arrive. I've picked out the color too so DH will paint after the nursery is cleared.
Re: bedding. We did DS1's month photos with the blanket as the background and used everything else in the crib
I'm also a rule breaker and we used the bumper once he became mobile in the crib and kept hitting his head. By that point, he was able to roll his head with good control and working on learning to push himself up.
ETA: we have toddler bedding but he doesn't use it so it's just sitting there. He prefers to sleep with a Muslin blanket and a Tula blanket over the toddler bedding set
Our nursery won't be created till we move, but we have tentative plans and have registered with those in mind. I'm hoping for a gray/lavender look, with the "theme" being owls and dogs. We haven't put much thought into decoration because my mom is pretty much taking all that on (she just keeps buying things lol).

hpnegirl, I'm a rule breaker too and am not anti-bumper. The only reason we stopped using DD's at 4 months was because we sold our house and temporarily moved in with my parents for the next 9 months and had all of the crib bedding in storage. By the time we moved in to our new house, we just never put the bumper back on. Because we went without it for so long with DD, I'm wondering if we should bother spending the money on a bumper this time.
H told me yesterday that he doesn't like the IKEA daybed and wants to put a twin bed in there (which we already have). Cue meltdown about not having a proper place for guests to sleep and he of course gave in but now I'm having second thoughts about it and trying to come up with an alternate plan. Not sure how that's going.

PirateCat, we got the IKEA daybed yesterday from a neighbor who was selling it. I think it's going to work great for us but we don't have guests stay very often. I just like that you can fit 2 people on it rather than just a normal twin bed.

We bought a crib set today and I'm so excited because I feel like things can start moving along now that we have a theme. We were at a little local baby store and they had a set 1/2 price so even though it's a nice set, we didn't break the bank. And I love supporting local businesses so that was a definite bonus!
