Not sure if this has been discussed, but I just started "finger foods" yesterday and L loves them! Now I need ideas. She has no teeth yet. So far I've done:
Thinking I'll also try: -small pieces of cooked pasta -cooked cut up sweet potato, carrots, ect. -scrambled egg yoke -toast with fruit puree on it cut in small pieces (too young?) -ground turkey?
Tell me what you're giving or plan to introduce soon.
We have done BLW, so M eats almost everything we eat. I avoid grapes, bread (unless toasted), raw carrots, and anything else that seems too hard. M eats broccoli, cauliflower, avocado, green beans, sweet potato, cooked carrots, chicken, turkey, pork, beef, noodles, eggs, oatmeal, yogurt, banana, steamed apples, melon, etc. As part of BLW we give everything in strips or large chunks so that he works to chew it.
I have been failing big time with solids, but we have given DS a few things off of our plates BLW style for him to chew on. We have mostly stuck with veggies so far. Bell pepper strips, broccoli, avocado (ok, technically not veggie). We also did hard boiled egg yolk mixed with breast milk.
Other things that are good in strips - Mangos, carrots, bananas, apples.
I like fish since it is flakey, but I don't remember if that is a potential allergin, and how to deal with that.
I know peanut butter is now recommended before 1, or was 2 years ago, so maybe a thin layer on toast?
A loves to eat finger food. Her absolute favorites are bananas, watermelon, pears, and puffs. She has also had waffles, apple slice, bits of turkey, peas, cooked carrots, beef, chicken nugget, and cheese quesadilla. I'm going slow with it because she's been having some massive poopsplosions lately with the food and I'm not sure if it's bothering her tummy or just her system getting used to solids. Plus, she has no teeth so we have to use soft, mushy foods.
I'm glad she's enjoying feeding herself now. We had a very slow start with purees and oatmeal.
We haven't done much of finger foods yet...she starting to get the hang of puffs. Once she's more comfortable with those I'll probably try more. She can't get enough of the purees and pouches!
gooselover2012 we gave scrambled eggs just before 7 months. Our pedi said that it's only important to delay introduction if you have an egg allergy in the family. We have chickens and eat a lot of eggs. It's one of Ms favorite foods.
We have done scrambled eggs already. While there are no allergies in either of our families we still have benadryl in the cupboard just incase. And I think it is often the second exposure where they react?
Honey is the only thing that we wait on till over a year, and that is botulism spores, not an allergy thing.

We bought some Benadryl this weekend as well just in case. My doctor is super funny. She will always give me her doctor opinion and then her paranoid/overprotective mom (her words) opinion. She told me that she did the same thing and went out and bought Benadryl before giving her kids eggs and PB.
I figure if we had to use it it would likely be 911/urgent care telling us how much to use since all of the Benadryl said do not use for under the age of 2.
There isn't infant Benadryl that I am missing is there?
haha, no infant Benadryl that I know of, I just feel safer having it around just incase. I would definitely be calling 911 before using it. Your doctor sounds pretty awesome
Stupid question: when did you start giving puffs and yogurt drops? I can't remember with K. I feel like L would like to start picking things up.
I just started puffs this week when my son handed her one and she shoved it in her mouth. She LOVES them! She's loves picking up and feeding herself anything though.
