pbandjelly, that is so cute. I tried to make chirstmas balls with the babies handprints, but it was a epic fail. Needless to say I still have the kits and will try again next year. We did however make footprints on red paper for the grandparents and us. They turned out well. The paint and the ball was just way too slipery. Even when they were sleeping we couldn't get it. I think a mold like that would have worked out better. Oh well, I like the footprints too!

I'm making these for part of the grandparents' Christmas gifts, and one for us with DS's handprint. This is the first one and I'm excited that it turned out well. I can't wait to give them to the grandparents.

I have a firm footprints only until 2 policy. I do not have pbandjelly's mad skills. Handprint crafts before 2 have resulted in crazy tears here.

pbandjelly Is that a kit? Or how did you make the dough? Joy isn't the only one stealing your idea 😀
I made the dough. 1/2 cup salt, 1/2 cup flour, 1/4 cup water (more if needed) to make a dough. Get handprint, then bake at 200* for 3 hours. Paint and seal with mod podge.

All of a sudden DD3 wants to grab toys. This is the start of a grand phase that culminates in sitting and playing cheerfully. Pardon me while I do a happy dance.
Nap question: do you do the same bedtime routine before naps, too? At night we do: bath, story, song, into the crib with a hug and a kiss and our "sleep mantra." For naps I've been doing the hug and sleep mantra (and the white noise machine and I close the shades), but they seem way harder than the night time. He cries a lot more for naps. Wondering if I need more of a routine for naps.

I do not. I'm wildly concerned about her mixing up days/nights and not understanding bedtime versus naps. I think we're over this hump by now, but I still get worried.
Night time is sleep suit, music, projected stars, dark room, bottle then burp and bed. She knows and goes down well.
Naps are always with lights on. I let her sleep on the couch next to me or in the swing. Occasionally I'll put her upstairs in her room to sleep in the bassinet with the sleep suit. If she cries, I let her work it out - she has a different "falling asleep" cry from her "I'm mega pissed" cry.
From what I can tell, daycare puts her down when she seems tired. No sleep suit, lights on, in a loud room. Haha.

Just diaper change and song. So no. But I also never sleep train for naps because it is so much harder. I find about a month after night sleep training my kids will fall asleep on their own for naps easily.
Marc Weissbluth's book says different parts of the brain control nights versus naps, so it is ok to do different things for each.
That said, if bedtime routine works for naps, why not?
ETA: also no judgement implied if you do sleep train for naps. I just found it easier to straighten out nights by themselves. But every kid and family is different.
gratefulgirl that's so interesting. So far, that's been my experience, too - naps are way harder!! The pediatrician actually suggested training during the day and that would take care of nighttime. That has not seemed to work out for us so far. I guess it's just experimentation.

Yay!! Except now she grabs every utensil I'm cooking with, every drink I have, every dirty dish I'm loading in the dishwasher... Lol!
Thank you to whomever posted the custom board books in the gift ideas thread. DH wrote the girls stories before DD1 was born and the cheap photo book I printed them on was falling apart. I just ordered them in a board book for DD3. Perfect present.
The other day I got an amazing video of O laughing. I am always glad/relieved when bedtime rolls around, but then ten minutes later I'm like, "Omg I miss her, I better watch this video 25 times now."
OMG G will NOT go to sleep. She got her shots today and then spent the afternoon taking an epic nap. Then woke up, ate, and took another nap. Now she's like HI MOM I'M WIDE AWAKE LET'S PLAY I WANT TO PULL YOUR HAIR
This past week DD has become so hard to put to bed, taking forever to fall asleep and then not staying asleep long no matter how she fell asleep, lots of crying progressing to screaming. I thought she just wanted to be held until I got frustrated and cleared off the bed and put her down there-she fell asleep easily and stayed asleep. So now I don't know what to do. I know I need to transition her back because it's much safer for her to sleep in her crib, but I don't know how since she sleeps poorly there and after a couple nights I'm sure she's gotten used to the bed and will be really difficult to transition back.
Lately I've kind of loved MOTN feedings (whaaaaa?!?) - my sleepy baby will slide his hand along my hand that's holding his bottle. He holds my fingers, and then sort of rubs my hand. It's so sweet. And then when I burp him, he rests his head on my shoulder and nestles my neck.
pttomato Honestly I wouldn't worry too much. It's ok to do what works to get through a little phase because babies are changing all the time. If you aren't worried about her actually falling off the bed, just transition when you're ready.
