kleigh umm I can't say I do always know. I ask the pediatrician and he will ask the questions and we decide if it's normal or not. I will say spit up and some reflux is normal and considered a laundry problem not a baby problem. A healthy baby should be able to spit up while laying down safely. It sounds awful sometimes like they can't breathe but they can and they get it out and generally continue to sleep or settle back down.
Reflux that needs to be treated generally impacts the health. The classic signs are arching while eating, screaming while eating, inconsolable when laying down, projectile spit up, weightloss or poor weight gain etc. With ds I am at the point of asking about it because he is no longer sleeping well on his back at night. Waking up crying every 15 minutes. Although to be honest? I wouldn't be shocked if the pedi says keep him upright for 30 minutes and a few other tricks to try and he will out grow it. Because he is healthy and happy otherwise and gaining like crazy. So I am asking because I don't know. And notice I said projectile spit up not anything about volume. DD was the queen of spit up she would spit up any time after a feeding and position but it would generally gush out of the mouth and she couldn't care less. By projectile I mean there is incredible force to it and generally extreme discomfort.
As always aggiebug very helpful and thank you so much! They have their 1mo appt Friday and of course I'll ask about it again but always interesting to hear what's going on in other's situations and to know what kinds of things to pay attention to and note. No real projectile spit up issues so we're fortunate there. Adeline has begun screaming while she feeds, like she's hungry but miserable so I'll mention that and note how often it's happening. Also she still has some trouble sometimes swallowing still but it's different than before, as in it seems like something is coming up that prevents the formula from going down and makes a gargle sound. Well thank you!!
That test suckkked though. Poor D was miserable with the things in her ears and I ended up letting her use my left boob as a pacifier the entire 40 minutes because it was the only thing that kept her calm. Really glad it's over and obviously really really glad the results were normal!
Our outing today went well. The good thing about CFA is everyone is so nice and helpful. They brought everything to me (including drinks and napkins), ad someone held W's hand and helped us to the car. Which I didn't really need but it was nice.
Twins attract a lot of attention, tho. I'm going to have to practice my small talk...i generally keep to myself.
You're my hero. I don't know how you manage 3.
Seriously. Even just D on her own attracts a lot of attention when we go out. I can only imagine the amount of small talk that comes with twins!
Re: reflux. J spits up a TON. And always after every feeding. Even if I hold him upright after a feeding for 30 minutes it doesn't make a difference. He grunts and is constantly clearing his throat usually right before he needs to burp and then he spits up. He even spits up an hour or so after a feeding. But he's gaining weight like a champ and it doesn't seem to phase him all that much. So I'm torn on if it's just a laundry problem or something more.
That sounds a lot like dd's laundry problem. Do you have over supply? I think that is a large part of her spit up.

kleigh honestly, most of the time I'm completely winging it. I've worked in Peds and yet with my own all that goes out the window. It was the Pedi who was holding her when she had a very wet hiccup, swallowed, grimaced, then let out a very pathetic wail. That was when she was about ten days old and once I knew what to look for I realized it was happening all the time. She also refused to lay flat on her back, had a lot of back arching/crying, and just would not sleep unless held upright again my chest. I'm hoping the Zantac is a temporary fix because it has gotten slightly better as she's gotten bigger, but a good day was still a 50/50 shot. It's still too early to tell if the Zantac is actually helping though, FX it is. ETA: temporary fix as in i hope I don't have to use it long before she grows out of it, not that it'll only work temporarily and she still is having problems.
aggiebug, the Zantac was actually an afterthought during the appointment because she gave it to me last week when I went in for her rash. I knew it was going to have to be ordered so I didn't want to wait until her one month visit today. Honestly though I do keep her upright for at least that long just because she's also difficult to burp so she ends up falling asleep in that position and I just leave her. I've also not gotten more than four broken hours of sleep in a day in the past five weeks so I'm probably the last person to bd giving advice. As for the Zantac I'd call back and just tell her that your comfortable with the research you've done and would prefer the Zantac prescription over waiting until the new year.
So N is in her first repeat outfit and the sleeves are noticeably shorter since a week ago! I "know" she is growing, but doesn't seem like she actually is when I'm staring at her all day.
J was a happy spitter. N has just started spitting up a little, but the grunting she does when put on her back or down in the middle of the night sounds painful. Def asking about it at our 2 week appt on Thursday.
Is everyone going for a 1 month well check? We did with Lillian, but my pedi said at the time they usually only have FTMs come in at 1 month unless there's a concern. So I wasn't too surprised when we were told to come back around 8 weeks. But I'm seeing lots of people talking about 1 month appointments.

No 1 month appointment here. We definitely had one for DS. Maybe my practice also only does it for FTMs?

I think it might be regional too. With O we lived in Texas and they did 1 month well child appointments. We moved back home before that and my ped looked at me like I was crazy for asking to schedule a one month.
I had a one month appt for C. Did no one else get the Hep B vaccine?
We got the first Hep B shot in the hospital. I believe the second shot can be done at 1 or 2 months. And then I think the final one happens around 18 months.

My pediatrician specifically told me that she sometimes recommends parents (generally first-timers) come back for a one month check-up but said that there was no reason for us to come in. She did say that we could come in to get the hep b vaccine but that it was perfectly fine to hold off until 2 months unless we really wanted to come in sooner.
It's going! I'm a bit overwhelmed by breastfeeding and L latching on. The Lactation Nazi at the hospital has rubbed me the wrong way and I almost gave up even bothering to try.
I know it's the lack of sleep and the fact you can't read yourself into parenting wisdom makes me sad!
Otherwise, he's been a dream! I'm so in love with him! His newborn/holiday photo shoot was awesome and I'm excited to see the preview in a few days.
I'm scared when DH leaves next Monday. BF seems like it's a 4+ hand job!?! To be doing it by myself has me extremely anxious. Yes, my mom will be here but I can't imagine her coming up at 3am to help with that. I see her giving me time sleep but not the MOTN stuff.
My pedi does do one month check ups. In fact, they usually do 2 wk check ups for FTM.
cheshie6 I had an awful LC at the hospital with O. I felt so unsupported and discouraged by her but pushed through. Since her, I had some amazing LCs and went on the BF for 18 months. It does get easier. I promise. And you will soon barely need 1 hand. Set low expectations for yourself In the beginning of H going back to work. Just feed and change baby and feed yourself. The rest can wait. Try bf without physical help a few times before he leaves. Just have him stand by so you can build confidence in doing it alone. None of this is easy but you'll get it !

I don't pretend that I actually have a routine down right now, but if our pretend schedule gets disturbed even slightly the entire day gets ruined. M got woken up fifteen minutes into the one of two decent naps she takes daily by the big dog flipping the F out and she's been a bear since. I'm talking sleeping no longer than 20 minutes at a time and only in my arms since 11 am.
H also tried introducing a bottle tonight. That went well. Not.

Hmm we did our second Hep B at 1 month. Maybe they wanted us in to keep checking his weight and just did it since we were there. At least it's one less shot to worry about at 2 months.
A is still exclusively breasfeed has just turned 6 weeks and has not pooped for like 4 days. The doctor said at our 2 week check that this was a little trick breastfed babies liked to Pull and not to be alarmed. But I'm kinda alarmed. She's acting fine and eating fine and having plenty of wet diapers. Any moms out there experience this before?
I'm going to call the dr tomorrow just to check in on it too.

DS1 went 9 days without pooping. I can't remember exactly how old he was, but I want to say 3-4 weeks. I think I called on day 4 or 5 and the pedi said as long as he was still having plenty of wet diapers then to give it 10 days. If he didn't poop after 10 days then we would have brought him in.

Normal. Her digestive system is just being really efficient at using everything you're giving her. Some breastfed babies go a week to plus without pooping and that's their norm until adding in solids and some go constantly.
We do 1 month and then have another at 2 months. I like having the extra appointments to check in and ask questions.
Also finally gave N a bath and her hair is so fluffy! She hated it for the most part, but did chill for a few minutes towards the end. We did an unofficial weight check using our scale and I think it has her at 7lb 8 oz, which I hope is accurate! That'd be 7 oz past her birth weight.
We have no sort of schedule outside of bedtime. She basically still sleeps all day.
