It's after 9:30 and DS still isn't awake. I'm curled up with D in bed (brought her in here with me after her 7 a.m. wakeup because I was so not ready to get up yet).
We're supposed to go to a 2nd birthday party for one of DS's friends at 10:30 but it's snowing like crazy and, well, we're all still in bed. I'm thinking we will be late.

Employee Christmas party at my house tonight. I look forward to this all year long so FX M does ok. My sister drove down late last night and got in around 4 am. I'm so excited to see her and spend some time with her.
My goal is to somehow pull myself together for tonight and look hot AF.
Lilah slept for almost 6 hours last night. 11:30-5:15. But...I didn't fall asleep until almost midnight and DH did a 5k this morning so I was getting up at 6:15. I ended up with a little over 5 hours of sleep total. At least it was consecutive?
We are about to head home from the park DH had his 5k at. Our neighborhood is doing breakfast and pictures with Santa for a bit at our park and we are going to do that. Otherwise, I don't know what we are doing this weekend. My parents are in Colorado for my brother's graduation so no weekly family meals with them.
Oh, but, it's DH's 1st day of winter break! 16 days that he'll be home. Yay!

Good morning! We got a ton of snow and now lots of wind and below zero all weekend so we'll be staying home. Maybe we'll make some cookies or something.
Had our best night of sleep last night. 4.5 hours-3 hours-3.5 hours between wake ups. Ah-mazing. I can't believe this little guy is over a month already.

Anyone else have a baby that stays up for ridiculous amounts of time? She sleeps great from midnight to 6:30 with only one wake up, but from about 5-6 pm to midnight she is WIDE awake.

sophiegrace. Yes ma'am. DS1 was the same. Our running joke is that our infants like to stay up and keep hours with college students. Not uncommon for DS2 to be up from 8-11 or 9-midnight (despite swaddling, multiple feeds, dark room, etc.) His most awake time in my belly was always in the 9-10 pm range so he just hasn't transitioned yet.

Yes lol. Adeline does this. She almost never will nap for me from the hours of 5/6p - 10p. But then she sleeps a huge chunk 10p-2/3a.

This is us, too. The first half of the night (say, 8-12 or so) is when she's most likely to be fussy and hardest to put to sleep, despite doing everything 'right' (as shedreamsincolor mentioned).
(Although last night she was wide awake--and happy!--from 2 til almost 4. But that is not her typical pattern. Please, God, don't let that become her pattern.)
We're hibernating today between the massive amount of snow and extremely cold temps. I bought a gingerbread house kit that we will put together later. I need to build up my craft supplies for the winter so I don't let the tv parent on the really bad weather days.
I'm missing having my mom here. H has a different idea of helping. I need to work on better communicating what I need help with so I don't get mad at him.
I'm jealous of all the good sleepers. We are still up every 2.5-3 hours at night.
Morning! Every day I thank God for the restorative powers of coffee and the Keurig.
DH is flying today so I have the kids solo. He does one weekend day a month and while I know that's not much in the grand scheme, they always make me bitter--especially b/c so many of his colleagues weasel their way out of it somehow, so he has to do it more frequently than is actually necessary.
We'll probably go visit my parents, and then I need to make a quick trip to the mall, and I'm sure we'll fit in a visit to the park. Tonight we're invited to a friend's house for dinner so that will be fun, and DH will just meet us there after work.
sophiegrace That sounds so fun! Feel free to AW pictures of you and M!
We had a great night! Both babies slept from 9p - 3a = 6 hours !!!!! But I thought Adeline was stirring at 1am so I got up and kept waiting for her to wake, except she didn't actually wake until 3 with Alec. Sooo I wasted 2 hours of precious sleep time lol.
It snowed early this morning so H is cleaning off the car and will run out for bagels or sandwiches.
My whole family (brothers, sisters, uncle, cousins, mom, etc) is going to the mall tonight (annual tradition) for casual shopping and a bite to eat- basically an excuse to all hang out . I really want to go but have this little voice on repeat in my head that I can't go there bc they don't have their shots 😢😢😢 . Does anyone have info on the risks? I mean, they'd be in a stroller with a lightweight cover on and I obv wouldn't go into a small/packed store or let people come near them.
Morning! DD and I baked some cookies this morning while H snuggled with DS. We were supposed to go pack food baskets at church his morning but the roads were icey. Like roads closed, emergency vehicles can't leave their stations, carrying Gurney's for over a quarter mile to get to the accidents crazy. Glad we stayed out of that.
On another note I have cleaned up so much poop explosions from both kids and vomit (from dd due to phlegm) in the last few days I am so over it. Of course this all started after I did all the laundry on Thursday. Bah.
We had Mexican last night and I had a margarita (could have been bigger though;) ) last night so good. Today I plan on making homemade Irish cream for gifts my hot chocolate.
kleigh no specific info on risks, but anecdotal: I had both my babies in a mall by a week old. We flew cross-country with DS when he was less than a month (and that was over the holidays, so height of cold/flu season). No problems so far. I know there are varying opinions on this but I just cannot stay cooped up for 8 weeks, so we took our chances, kept babies in stroller and bundled up, etc. I've never had anyone get too close, attempt to lean in or touch, etc. Maybe we are just lucky? I say if you want to go, go, and just be careful, wash hands, etc.

Also jealous of the good sleepers. If I get 3 hours I'm ecstatic. Normally it's every 2. Couldn't get him down until midnight. Up at 2, then 5, then 7. It's exhausting! I just wish he would sleep! I got less than 6 hours of broken sleep. This is the norm.
We are going to a couple friends house that has a newborn basically the same age as O. I'm a little anxious about it. I don't know if he's going to be good or cry the entire time. Also how does everyone else feel about breast feeding in public? O can't latch 1x and stay on... It takes 5-10x of latch/unlatch until he gets in the groove. So it's not like I can just stick him on the boob with a cover and he's good. I think I'm going to pump a bottle. Also I think I need some help with this latch/unlatch thing. I didn't think it was a problem at first bc he's gaining weight fine and my nipples are fine. But now it's frusterating me bc I can't always sit in the recliner all day feeding him snacks.
kleigh I would go to a mall with babes in strollers with more comfort than going to a family party where multiple people want to hold babies and think they have the right to.
cookswithwine9 I think age and development is key in making latching easier and more automatic. I took me at least 6 weeks (more like 8) before I didn't need 2 hands and multiple attempts with DS. I used a cover and tried to find a quiet corner. It got much easier with time.
So AFM, I've been absent most of the week but I've been trying to at least read and LT. Here's my update.
So after I posted on Tuesday saying we were discharging from the hospital, she started to feed less and still had a really high fever. They decided to keep us and do further testing as they suspected meningitis.
This lead to another IV with antibiotics (so much easier this time and not traumatic at all thank god!), another lumbar puncture, weighted feeds, and 48 hour wait while cultures grew.
Fortunately all tests came back negative except the initial enterovirus (a cold) found in her nose. Which is best case scenario. So we finally discharged last night. Only treatment is riding out the virus and it's symptoms.
E is doing well. No fever and feeding well. She has a lot of nasal congestion and a cough. This is making feeding and laying flat uncomfortable. They were doing nasal suctioning before every feeding so we are missing that now. She is wanting a lot of upright holding and feeding so just trying to do that.
The other sad aspect is that we are likely going to cancel our holiday travel. Doesn't seem right after 5 days in the hospital. Will see if she recovers quickly. Just can't decide how I feel about it because Christmas is my favorite holiday and I love how much time I get to spend with my family. My parents will come up here after if we don't go there, but I'll miss my sisters, BILs and nieces and nephews.

hangry oh man, I'm so sorry you had such a rough week:( are you driving or flying to holidays? I think that'd influence my decision..Prob wouldn't fly but would consider a drive. It is hard to miss holidays, but everyone should understand. Maybe you can see them a few months the later?
@kleigh my pedi is in the camp of try not to go out to crowded public indoor places in the winter. She suggests bundling up and getting fresh air. I followed this pretty strictly for DS...And I was pretty miserable. This time I'm being cautious and keeping her in a carrier or carseat. Plus figure with DS bringing home daycare germs, she's more likely to get sick from him than a random. We did target and Costco yesterday, and it was a little more crowded than I liked, but kept her covered up.

cookswithwine9 I would imagine that your friend would understand if you wanted to go into a room to nurse or a quiet area if she has a newborn as well. I never brought bottles anywhere if I was with ds since I don't want to pump to not miss a feeding and mess with supply. Try not to stress, it's overwhelming at first, but gets easier over time.

Icey day here. Doing some online shopping and lounging. May venture to see santa, but may wait until tomorrow. My voice is coming back, so that's appreciated.
I think I caught N smiling this morning and got some cute pictures, of course she was wearing a ridiculous cheetah print sleeper that I had her in for warmth last night. And she got a bath earlier, she loved it today! Only cried when it was time to get out.
Been thinking about you guys hangry I'm sorry it was extended but glad everything was negative (except the virus 🙁)
tallblonde Adeline loves the bath too. I wish I could say the same for Alec. I'm hoping when he's a little older and I take him in a normal bath with me or put him in with his sister that he'll enjoy it.

I think we are in sleepy newborn stage still. She's awake like 3 hours a day total when not nursing, maybe. I get stuck with a baby asleep on me because she always falls asleep while burping.

hangry - so sorry to hear about the extended hospital stay. What a bummer. Baby and I will also be missing holidays with my family. My brother's family doesn't immunize and so for my comfort (and per the recommendation of my Ped) we aren't attending holiday events they will be at. Which is everything. Annoying, but worth it for peace of mind.
So we would be driving. My family is 10 hours driving time, so like 12 travel hours. Initially we were planning on driving halfway, staying over in a hotel, then driving the rest the next day. We were going to be with my family for a week. On the way home, we were going to drive to H's family (4 hours from my parents on our route home) and then drive the other 8 hours the next day. shedreamsincolor most of my family doesn't get the flu shot but are up to date with vaccines. Was your doctor only concerned with vaccines or flu shots as well?
We are considering pushing back 4-5 days to see if she is back to normal and just spend less time there.
Post by shedreamsincolor on Dec 17, 2016 16:01:09 GMT -5
hangry - both. Her primary concerns were that they don't have MMR and none of his family is up to date on their Tdap (pertussis). But influenza can be really dangerous in a young infant so that's a concern as well. It's just tricky because to be honest there's no way to know when you take little ones out to events who has been vaccinated. For me I am just more conservative in general and so I just wasn't comfortable with the situation and I know going would have made me so anxious I wouldn't really enjoy it. Everyone has a different comfort level though and you should do what feels right to you and your family.
Glad to hear so many of our babies are sleeping well! D does right by me most of the time. She has 2 or 3 wakeups, anywhere from 2.5-4 hours apart, but pretty much falls right back asleep, which is nice. DS would sometimes stay up for up to 2-3 hours after a feeding and just cry the whole time. I very much prefer this system.
DS is driving me bonkers tonight. He would not stop whining all afternoon/evening and he's now upstairs in his crib crying for me to come rock him again. I've already gone in there and rocked him twice and the second time I told him no more so I really can't go back in. It breaks my heart to hear him cry but I can't let this become a thing every night when I have a tiny infant to tend to.
