Guise! I'm in an embryo adoption/donation group with brazilianpeach. She just posted an update that her son is going home tonight! Happy tears for her!
Hi everyone! I've been reading and love titting, but not responding much this week. H is off work already for the holidays and home with A and I'm jealous...but only have to make it one more day until I'm off too. We leave Saturday to visit families, so lots of planes in our future. It will be the first time flying since A is mobile so I'm hoping I have enough tricks up my sleeve to keep her engaged. I can't wait to see family and hopefully not work much.
And the brownies didn't cook through again! Wtf?! H got a triple fudge kind and this is probably the first time I've made brownies in our new stove but it seems like I need to add 20+ minutes to the cook time! I added 10 this time and they're still like batter. The toothpick was even coming out clean! Throwing in the towel. It's H's last day before vacation so this was it. More for me I guess. But damn I don't need this many Andis mint brownies.
I've been quiet here lately because most of my TCF time has vanished since Abigail weaned and she's now down to 1 nap a day which happens while I'm at work.
Things have been a bit rough here. I'm having surgery tomorrow to fix an umbilical hernia and I'm pretty stressed about what the recovery will be like. Given that I'm the default parent, everything has fallen to me to prepare our family for me being out of commission for a while. It sucks, and DH has kind of made things harder lately rather than easier. He means well, but he just doesn't get it.
On top of surgery tomorrow, I'm pretty certain I broke my toe this morning. A heavy ceramic bowl fell on my toe and I am in agony now. I had to wear a flip flop to work in 20 degree weather and my toe is purple and more swollen than I ever knew was possible. There is a huge hematoma on top and the bottom is completely purple. I'm actually looking forward to the pain meds for the surgery tomorrow so I won't have to be in agony from my toe anymore. Advil and ice isn't cutting it.
The only bright side of this is that I will have the next 2 weeks off of work so the toe can heal along with the hernia repair and I don't have to worry about putting a shoe on for a while after tomorrow. Oh, and I should have more TCF time since I won't be able to do much.

I wonder if the temperature controls are working properly. Can you put the brownies back in and bake them longer? No need to toss the whole batch just yet.

packmomma are you using convention? If not, there was an Americas test kitchen podcast about how ovens vary wildly in actual temps, and that it should actually read low medium and high rather than real temperatures. You may have to play around a bit to find the sweet spot!
aydee sorry to hear about the hernia!! That sounds really stressful. I hope it's an easy recovery and that your toe heals up too!
aydee I hope the surgery goes well today! This may be a wakeup for your H on everything it takes to take care of the kids. I hope your toe feels better as well!

@janetheconquerer, I'm so sorry about everything going on with your MIL. I'm glad that you guys are able to spend some time with her. When do you head home? Isn't your follow-up doctor appointment this week?

Today was my appointment. I had to reschedule for Jan 5th. What's another 2 weeks at this point? We fly home on Friday.
Up early this morning so I can eat something before surgery this afternoon. I barely slept last night because the pain in my broken toe is so bad. I'm hoping that this hernia surgery magically acts like a partial tummy tuck, haha. Maybe I'll wake up to a brand new midsection that is less scary than what I'm dealing with now. The doctor is going to try to fix some of the diastasis that happened during pregnancy while he's in there.
I won't be able to lift or carry anything heavy, including Abigail, for about a month after surgery. It makes me super sad to know I won't be able to hold her on my hip or carry her around with me since she loves that and is always asking me to pick her up throughout the day. I'm going to get in as many snuggles as I can and hold her as much as possible this morning.

I'm sorry. I know it's been a long stressful wait.
tuscanlatte we have a convection optional oven but I wasn't using it. I'll have to definitely check that out. aydee I couldn't pop them back because I figured out they were under done hours after I had initially cooked them. But they are definitely not getting thrown away. I just don't feel comfortable sending them to H's work. But they will get eaten because like @janetheconquerer they are perfect for home consumption.
aydee I hope surgery goes well and you have a smooth recovery. My BF really stepped up while I was recovering from surgery over the summer. I had to release my perfectionism a bit bc he did things differently than me but his way worked too. The kids were happy and survived
@janetheconquerer, I really dislike timelines for death because really no one knows... My dad was in a hospice house for 6 months and then died of a damn heart attack. I'm glad y'all are there and getting to see her though.
My kid is finally fever free but all asshole. He has just been screaming at me all day and throwing massive fits. And he's determined that he will live on clementines alone.
