After my breast feeding class I am going for a Spectra, the one with the rechargeable battery. It's one of the only on the market right now that is a closed system, meaning milk doesn't hang around the motor. Medela is an amazing pump, but it is an open system, and your milk has the potential to touch milk several days, months, years old. Because of this medela is actually only recommended to be used for a year before replaced.

I have an S1 and wouldn't trade it for the world. I don't have anything to compare it to but I love it. It's quiet and super efficient. I like that you can play with both the suction strength and speed to find out what works best for you.

Yes! It's the only one on the market that you can adjust suction and speed separately!

Spectra?? Huh, I've never heard of that one. I'll have to check it out. Thank you!!!
It's been popular in Korea forever, and is slowly gaining traction in North America. The S1 and S2 are the same thing, the S1 just has a rechargeable battery. That alone was a huge selling point for me. And the night light! It has a soft glow night light with 2 brightness levels.
I have the spectra S2 and have no complaints. Got it though insurance so I dunno about ordering.
Oh wait. Yea. The one complaint is that unlike Medela you can't get replacement parts anywhere easy and cheap. But I did buy some off brand valves and they are fine.

I'm a chump renting the hospital grade Medela Symphony... but I've been a Holstein these past 7 months so there we are. I'm hanging up the pump after Christmas. Looks like Spectra is the winner.

I love my Medela PISA, parts are pretty easy to find here and I haven't had any problems. I've also never heard of the spectra.
Have you checked to see if your benefits cover the pump? If so you might have to get it from a pharmacy as a prescription which means no amazon.
I can't remember where you are in Canada but Medela's head office is in a Mississauga, Ontario and they are awesome if you need anything. They even have drop in customer service for your pump.

I'm in NorthEastern Alberta. 3.5 hours from Edmonton. I'll have to look more into the pumps and look into what my Blue Cross covers. Probably nothing... but it's worth a look.
