YAS I am starting my hospital bag this weekend. Cannot freakin believe it's about to be 2017. I'm flipping out. I am so unprepared. Lol. Anyway, I need:
-going home outfit for baby (multiple ones, just in case the first option doesn't fit, or gets poop-exploded on) -PHONE CHARGER -sweatpants and the jankiest T-shirt I own -a few thick blankets because winter -deodorant and toiletries -my hospital provided the colace and miralax last time, but I'll probs still bring some just in case. DNW to be without -flip flops or crocs for shower
I also need to pack a bag for my LO to stay wherever he is going to be. My co-worker/neighbor told me that she could take him at the time of, so hopefully that works out because I think she is great and will take good care of him.
I also need to delete pictures off my phone for more memory.

We brought the nursing pillow but left it in the car. If this is not the first kid and you're doing the whole "baby got big sibling a present thing" don't forget that.

I bought two things that I probably won't need but sounded nice:
Massage bar from Lush (our birth class recommended some massage oil) A hospital gown that snaps open at the shoulders for skin-to-skin (I had a weird freakout about being forced to be naked)

Take an empty bag with you, like the diaper bag maybe. You will have tons to take home... Mesh undies, diapers, wipes, gifts, pp and newborn care info, discharge papers. You will be leaving with more than you came with.

I'll +1 to this! Take with you what you can from the hospital!

Most have mentioned most of the items on my list, I'll add that I brought my own exercise ball and plan on doing it again as well as hand warmers that are great for lower back when in labor.

Maybe an extra sheet to throw over whatever couch/chair they have for your partner to sleep on.
You are unlikely to go straight to a delivery room when you get there (picture a few hours hanging out in triage) so leave things you won't need for a while in the car if it's secured. My hospital also asked you to bring your health directive if you have one.
What to leave at home: dignity. All of your private lady bits are about to be handled by multiple strangers. Embrace it. Let it all hang out.
Are you super busy the whole time, or is there a reason to pack like an IPAD to watch TV on or a book? I was in the hospital a year ago for a week, and would have died of boredom without Netflix. Of course, there was no baby to get to know so I really have no idea.

I think this depends on what labor is like. For me, I went pain med free and media stuff was miles away from my thoughts. Then after labor I was doing baby things, like sleeping, feeding or eating.
That said, if you have an epidural I'm sure it would be nice to watch movies and stuff.

I have a FTM question about hospital bags: How much/what is packed in there in advance (and for the duration) and how much/what can go in during early labor at home or the day before scheduled induction/C-section? Some things, like toiletries and baby stuff, I can throw in a designated bag now and not miss. But other things, like my spare phone charger, I'll want between now and the hospital. Is departure so hectic I should buy another or can I have a list of last-minute things to grab?

What sort of shoes do you take? I wear boots normally but I dont even want to take them to the hospital honestly, they're so cumbersome. Can I just wear slippers the whole time?

We threw most things in last minute because my water broke so unexpectedly. I had my nursing pj's, robe, and coming home outfit packed and everything for ds (which was just an outfit I think). I want to say I kept a list in my phone of things I needed to throw in there still.

I wore slippers there. They were the moccasin type. I'll do the same this time. Bring a pair of flip flops for showering. I also got sent to walk laps around the hall to progress things so my slippers worked for that too.

OK so, I had a bag packed with stuff I wouldn't miss with plans to put things in last min. I think that would work fine.
However, I was sent from a Dr appointment to the hospital and didn't have DH or the bag. I just sent him to get it later.

I'm planning on bringing my slippers and flip flops. I only wore the socks they provided last time and it was fine. I was in and out of the shower during labor last time so slippers would be better than taking the socks on and off

@mountonrouge I had a list of things I needed to pack last minute and had plenty of time to pack it. I actually was glad to have stuff to "do" between laboring at home.

That was my original plan too. If this go smoother this time it's also my plan.

And this is why I'd like to have as much packed as possible, the unknown suuuucks
I brought very little last time. The hospital toiletries suck but they have them. I didn't want gross stuff on my clothes, so I wore the hospital gown and robe. I wore the grippy socks they give you.
They told me to take baths after delivery, so no need for flip flops. They had snacks available.
I was mad because I wanted a little make up to cover my acne and DH said it wasn't in my bag. It was.
The grippy socks at the hospital I deliver at are made for people with way bigger ankles/calves than I have and kept slouching down. They were also thicker than I care for. I ended up bringing some lower cut grippy socks that I wore the whole time. I also brought a hair dryer because that first shower is glorious. Also used a face towelette before I was up for a shower but wanted to feel refreshed.

I think the gown is good to think about if you think you may feel this way! My wife did NOT like when the nurses pulled up her gown and exposed her breasts for skin to skin. It's cool if you don't care, but my wife did and we didn't think about it beforehand

Yea this was my plan too. But it depends. My contractions were 90 seconds apart from the beginning. Mh was running around like crazy even with a list while i crawled down the steps yelling at him. Honestly, i didn't use most of what i brought anyway.
