My SIL asked me while I was pushing if I pooped the day before. I told her no and she said "oh great" To this day I still don't know if she had to clean up my poop and I don't want to know even though I think I do.

My hospital said they had birthing balls but limited supplies, so I brought my own.
I actually really liked the hospital gowns and was in them the whole time until we left and I changed into regular ppl clothes.
The shower after was ok, I wished I had my own toiletries and really took the time to relax and enjoy that shower.
I never had a problem w poop but I was a puker until there was nothing left. And no problem pooping postpartum just felt different pushing the poop out lol like I really had to concentrate 😯
They brought a hospital grade pump to my room and I had plenty of pillows surrounding me to not need the boppy, that said I did use the boppy at home a ton so I might bring it and leave it in the car.

One of the thugs I just thought of is the baby grooming kits. That's one of the things I sent DH to get after the birth because DS had CRAZY long nails and the nurses wouldn't cut them for whatever reason.
My friend who is an OB said she's always happy to learn a mom had diarrhea during early labor. She told me that's the "best case scenario". So I guess, FX? Lol

Wow. You guys are packing a lot! Maybe I should reevaluate my small list. -change of clothes for MH and I -brush -makeup -chargers -flip flops -going home outfit for baby -big sister present -hair tie
My list, based off of the first time: - toiletries - chargers - nursing pillow - going home clothes for mom and baby - book - OTC Colace, Motrin, pre-natals
I'd be more stressed with packing a bunch of stuff, but I also live about 8 minutes from the hospital and have a fleet of family in the area who would be happy to bring me the moon if I wanted it.

My packing list would definitely be much less extensive if I knew for certain that I'd have family here to bring me things as needed.
Oh yeah. Distance to home and local support make a huge difference.
You guys are making me chuckle I already have my stuff packed.. but there are things I'm not worrying about because I'm going to be there for so long. I can have my mom or my dh bring them.
Maybe I missed it in the lists, but things to think about potentially.. taking along your vitamins/supplements/Tylenol. I know my stay is longer so I really can't forget those... At least at our hospitals here in SoCal, you can bring in your own, have your doctor prescribe medication brought from home, and you won't get stuck paying the exorbant prices that hospitals charge for such simple things.
I'm assuming women who have had diarrhea during early labor are less worried about pooping during delivery, so they're more effective when it comes to pushing?
FTMs: You don't get a prize for not pooping during delivery. When you get the urge to push, will probably feel like you have to take the biggest dump of your life. Just go with it. Relax the muscles surrounding all exits and push! If there's poop hanging out down there, it will come out. It's NBD, and the nurses will promptly wipe it away. Just keep your bottom relaxed, keep pushing, and you'll get to meet your baby soon!
Lol yes to all this. They told me when I got to 10cm to let them know when I felt a lot of pressure, like I need to poop (I never did so I cant confirm if the description is accurate). Bearing down is often described as pushing like youre pooping. Also, think of your anatomy. That baby is squeezing your colon like a tube of toothpaste on the way out, so the potential results are obvious....

DH and I don't know if I pooped. We weren't looking. He stayed by my head.
I had an epidural but started screaming from the pressure when it was push time. I thought I was peeing and pooping everywhere! It was just the baby ready to come out in 2 pushes!

Thats crazy! I was at 10cm for 2hrs and felt nothing. I had an epi as well. They just told me to start pushing because IIRC they dont like you to be fully dialated longer than that because of infection risks.
Kind of a random question in the middle of all the poop talk, but did you bring a gift for the nurses? I've heard some people mention it but I don't really get it, like do you just show up with a platter of cookies when checking in?

I did not bring anything for the nurses
+1 and I was there for days, so went through quite a few

Ive heard of this too. I did not bring a gift. I think this is one of those Pinteresty ideas that has made it's rounds. I considered taking something in after my delivery because the nurses literally saved our lives, but circumstances didn't allow. That is a slightly SS situation though.

No nurse gift here. They did have thank you cards from previous patients displayed on a little board by the nurse station so I think those are appreciated.
Plus the first nurses you see will not be with you the whole time. I had no repeats while I was there, actually.

No list here, but I feel like I barely touched what I brought last time, besides when it was time to go home. I used most of what the hospital provided. If you need a toiletry item and forgot it, just ask the nurses. I learned this more when DD was in the hospital than during her birth, but they have so much of that on hand, it never hurts to ask. I know DH will get antsy about packing a bag here, so I'll work on mine now, but honestly would probably wait if it was just myself.
I really wanted to get the nurses a gift, but unfortunately there was just no time for that. :[
Someone told me once that they usually just appreciate cards or store-bought things, if you're trying to get them something-- because with homemade foods/snacks, there is no way to know what is in the foods/if stuff is sanitary, and you want to be safe.
