Ugh. First day of the year and my MIL is at the top of my shit list again. Sigh
Way to ruin 2017 MIL!
She's bitching and moaning because we're not throwing any form of a birthday party for DS1. He turns 2 on the 19th and we're only doing cake for the three of us. She wants us to drive 4+ hours round trip to meet her half way so she can give DS1 his gifts. She was here two weeks ago and could have passed them to us to give to him on his bday or she could mail them/have them shipped directly here.
Not to mention, the gifts are obviously for a 3+ old who isn't putting everything and anything in his mouth due to constant teething (his first tooth didn't show up until after he was 13 months and he's been teething non-stop since) and she opens them right when she gives them without asking if it's okay. We had an epic meltdown the last time she was here because she brought him Thomas toys that had a lot of small pieces that she immediately opened and he wanted to play with it. It took 30 minutes to wrangle everything from him
Shipping is way cheaper than the gas it will cost for that trip. Tell her to calm herself.
I wish! She's a 12 year old in a 62 year old body. I suspect she'll be throwing a temper tantrum in about a week whenever DH grows the balls to tell her that we won't be meeting her for it and that she has to ship it here
mustloveerica, I'm sorry she's being so frustrating. I would go nuts if my MIL thought she had any say in that stuff (I am dreading finding out if she does). Another vote for "your kid, your decision" and she can go kick rocks.

The first day of 2017 has been glorious. H and I stayed in bed with LouDog all day and watched movies, and now we're headed to my ILs for dinner. We're over the moon about our baby boy and already having fun picking out boy things.
We can't wait to meet our little Oliver Stephen this year!!
Love the name, but I am biased as my older son is Oliver =)
DH and I just agree on a tentative boy and girl name. He was on board with my two favorites wich works for me. And we made a list of the names we agree on. But he wants us to be team green and I don't I think I can live like that. I told him not to go to my anatomy scan when the time comes and he can be team green all by himself.
I would slip. I can't imagine knowing and not calling my baby by the pronoun.
onesweetworld Yes so true it will never work. MH had a nice memory of his step mom asking if they should find out the gender of his baby brother . I think my husband was 11 and his response was "that's like unwrapping a Christmas present" or something cute like that and it really influenced his parents to be team green. The one and only time we told them we were pregnant they asked if we would find out the gender. We both had a solid yes answer. Then they said remember when .... and now he's all team green. I think if it's fun for both then do it. But I like to plan so I want to know.
It's a nice surprise that doesn't have to wait the better part of a year. Maybe you can compromise with a fun reveal for you and the family?
This is why only DH and I will know the girls names until they are born. It's a fun little secret :-)
Actually, osw knows one of them but not the other. Lol. She's special I guess.
I just don't understand how people can be so rude though. Like, even if I hated your kid's name, I would never say so out loud.
100%. I think we'll keep the name to ourselves until the baby is born. *Most* people have enough tack to not voice their opinions after the baby is already born. But before then, they feel it's free game. I don't get it. Especially since Oliver is a great, real name. Not something crazy like Huckley.
