This really isn't a question but I keep (magically) thinking when LO turns one, she will start eating real meals and drinking milk out of sippy/straw cup. I think I'm gonna have a kid that only drinks milk and takes like 2-3 bites of food.
I keep thinking / wondering about this too. I don't understand how he goes from 6 bottles a day to eating real meals. Also no bedtime bottle? I think I'll just pretend his a baby until he's like 5 or some thing.
We are down to 4 bottles (16-24 oz/day). One on wake up, and then one before each nap and bedtime. Maybe dropping the morning bottle will be fine but I'm with you ladies about the other three. I doubt my DD will sleep as well without bottles. Ooiy.
DD has a bad cough and she is waking up every 30-45 mins, coughs, whines, then back to sleep. There is no fever, or blocked nose; is there anything you can give a baby for coughing? It must be painful for her throat.
I don't think I answered this earlier but if I did then just ignore me (mom brain). Do you have a humidifier in LO's room? It made a huge difference with her when she had a really bad coughing fit the other night. We have a cool air one that makes the entire room humid. I stood for 20 minutes with her head close to the humidifier then placed it close to her crib for sleeping. Huge difference. I know you said she doesn't have a Blocked nose but is it a runny nose? Mine seems to have a runny non congested nose and it must run down into her throat when sleeping. Saline drops and a nose sucker made a big difference too. Especially in the middle of the night after she had been asleep for a while and just needed a nose clearing to get her back down.

Re: clipping nails - I pin one arm down by wrapping my arm over it and then clip the free hand. It works well.
I started the wcm transition at 11months 1 week. We're almost completely off formula. I figured it was close enough to a year (11 days until their birthday) and formula is expensive.

Yes this is why I ask. My pedi said with DD1 I could start just before 1, and next week LO will be 11 mo. It is expensive! DH keeps hinting he wants to start ASAP but I actually just looked up why they shouldn't have cows milk before 1 and it scares me that she might not be able to digest it. She's soooo close, though!!!
Yes, @notyourmom lol, did I recall right and you gave Ethan whole milk easier than 1? I could be imagining this recall, so my apologies in advance lol
Yeah I started both boys transition at 9/10 months. I start with just a cup to play then only offering at one meal (breakfast) then eventually move on to breakfast lunch and dinner and replacing all other bottles with water by the time they are one.
We hit a snag with Ethan though. He's on almond milk.
LO is down to nursing 2x and 5.5-6oz in cup 2x/day. He eats 3 solid meals on top of that. I think we are going to start introducing wcm next week. He'll be 11.5mo.
I'm just jumping in. Has anyone asked if there is any miracle fix to getting a baby off the bottle and using a sippy cup? T drinks water out of a sippy cup, but throws them if they have milk. She wants her bottle.

I haven't even tried yet so I'm probably no help. We've given her water in different types of sippy cups so I'm hoping the more variety she has the easier it will be to start switching milk into it. What if you started putting a little milk in with her water, slowly making it stronger and stronger milk over time?
How much snacks are you giving? Normal routine for us is 3 bottles 8oz each, 2 puree/cereal meals and 2 crackers at daycare, then she has dinner with us, usually bits off my plate but if its salad I give her canned fruit or crunchy snacks. When I give her crunchies its a mix of 4 yogurt melts, about 10 of the stars and 2-3 veggie puffs. I don't mind giving her the fruit as a snack but worried about giving her too much crunchy snacks. I have had a weight problem my entire life - I blame most of it on genetics;)- but I don't want her to start out eating incorrectly.
Also have you tried those meals from gerber like the ravioli and such?
sanibel21, She has gotten so spoiled to soy milk that if it's anything different (other than water), she will throw it down and cut you some eyes. I can try diluting her milk with water, but from her history, I don't see that going over very well with her. LOL
zandeela, Food is definitely not a problem for her. LOL She has a small breakfast snack when she gets to daycare, only because they don't serve breakfast until 7:30 and all the other kids in the morning bring a snack since we all get there around 6:15. Then she has a snack, then lunch, then snack, then at home around 5:30pm she gets a snack either puffs/mini muffins/yogurt melts, stuff like that. Then she eats dinner around 6:30-6:45pm and bath time between 7-7:30 and she is usually asleep between 8-8:30. I know it seems like a lot of food, but she doesn't eat a lot each time. I felt like it was too much almost, but she gets extremely cranking and starts pointing at the cabinet with her snacks when we get home, so I feel like if she's pointing and crying then why not offer it.
But our issue is the bottle. She drinks milk throughout the day instead of water or juice, but she refuses to take it in the sippy cup, only wants her bottle. I know she isn't even 1 yo yet, but I see this as becoming a problem. I wouldn't mind so much if she had a sippy cup during the day and a bottle to fall asleep at night, but no, if she is drinking milk, she wants it out of a bottle.

We tried the Gerber spinach ravioli, and she looked at me like "Are seriously feeding me this shit?" lol I tried it when she protested, and it was kinda gross. I haven't tried any of the others though--she loves normal food and it is so easy for me to just use the slap chopper to dice everything I'm eating up for her.
I don't give her a lot of the crunchy snacks. Normally her routine is a 6oz bottle in her crib in the morning while I take the dogs out to the yard, then we have breakfast together (usually Cheerios and fruit or yogurt for her). She doesn't have a morning snack but she gets another bottle when she wakes up from her AM nap. Then we eat lunch (which for her is just a cut-up version of what I'm having). For her afternoon snack, I usually give her some fruit, applesauce, graham crackers, puff snacks, etc. For dinner, she eats what I eat. Then she'll have another bottle before bedtime. She pretty much does the same thing at her babysitter's house.

I tried the Gerber meals, not a fan. I've embraced more of a meal planning approach to baby meals during the week. For breakfast I've been making homemade blueberry muffins on Sunday and pairing with a banana. I also buy a roast chicken that's just for her and chop some chicken up and mix with a vegetable for lunch or maybe some past. Baby yogurt for an afternoon snack. Then she has a baby version of whatever we are having for dinner. That's made things a lot easier for daycare meal planning. Towards the end of the week I may mix it up based on whatever dinner leftovers I have.

My LO would only take water in a sippy cup until this weekend. She refused milk, no matter what I tried. Then, we tried milk in a sippy with a soft, easy to use straw instead of the tilting ones....and once she figured it out she thought it was fun and is now taking one of her bottles in it at daycare.
Speaking of sippy cups, I have a question for those of you who use the take and toss straw cups. LO drinks very well out of it but I have to hold it for her. If she holds it she either flings it around and spills it or takes the straw out and plays with it. Do your Los do this? Anything I can do to at least stop her from taking out the straw? When can I expect her to just drink and not toss the cup around? I tried a different cup today where the straw can't be removed, but it's very difficult to suck from.

I don't have an suggestions, but I do have a related question. I've never seen these take and toss cups. Are they are available in Canada? They sound like they'd be great for out and about.
One suggestion I read recently about weaning from the bottle said to slowly decrease the amount you give in the bottle. When the bottle is gone, offer the rest of what you normally would have given them in a cup. After a few attempts and not getting as much as they want they may take the cup. I think the other part of this was to start on just one or two feedings a day, most likely mid-day when they don't depend on the bottle quite as much for comfort. I have no idea if this would actually work, but I might try it at some point.

LO usually doesn't take the straw out, but sometimes she will fling the cup or take a sip and then squirt the liquid out of her mouth (water fountain style, it's different than accidental dribbles). When she does this I will remind her that we don't do that. If she does it again I'll take the cup off her tray for a bit and then give it back to her a minute or so later. I figure she probably is playing and not really thirsty when she does this. And by taking it away I think she's started to understand she will lose the cup if she does those things so is doing it less. Maybe something to try?

I don't know if I'd recommend them for out and about since they don't have a lid and aren't completely leak proof (unless you are planning to fill it on the go). They are great for us at home though since they are easy to suck from, and I like that it teaches how to use a regular straw (and are super cheap!).
We definitely couldn't use those take and toss with a straw. T has no concept of putting things down. When she is about to eat something, she just lets her pappy flop out of her mouth and fall. Rocking to sleep, if she's done with her bottle, she flops it over the side of the chair and to the ground it goes. The other day, she was done drinking even though it still had milk in it, and she just stuck her hand out and let the bottle drop.
So I think I've heard on here that most doctors won't do tubes until kids are around 2 yo. Anyone know of them doing tubes earlier than that? T has ear infections back to back lately.

My cousins kid got tubes before 2 years...so I'm sure it depends on the doctor. We are hoping to avoid it (with the chiro) and get things working how they should be...I hate the idea of tubes because it just means they have them for life & have to get them replaced, etc as they outgrow them. Less operations the better in my book. BUT given your T's issues...I think it would be within reason to request an apt with an ENT & talk about what you can do to help before tubes? Have you seen a chiro for her? Ours showed us a "massage" to do behind his ears (really just rubbing gently in a downward motion) to help drain. She also said anytime he's congested to cut out all raw dairy (cheese, yogurt, wcm, etc) if possible since it thickens the mucus & can inhibit the draining of his sinuses & cause ear problems.

A girl in LO's daycare class had them done recently. She's about the same age as our LOs.

We actually just had an appointment this morning to discuss tubes. I don't love the idea but she's had 5 ear infections in the past 4 months and I'm tired of seeing her in pain. The doctor said this is the prime age for tubes. Two kids in DD's daycare class had tubes recently.

I need to look for just the tops and straws. We got a ton of these cups and regular sippy tops as a baby gift and LO loves drinking from them. And they wash really easily in the dishwasher, too.
kewii I decreased bottles about a month ago. DD started not drinking more than 3 oz at a time, so I stopped sending 5 oz bottles. Lately, she has been refusing the bottle altogether. It's only one afternoon a week that she needed one, (our daycare is on site, so I normally breastfeed throughout the day) so now I just send food and a sippy cup for water and she's fine. I breastfeed her when I pick her up.
