What protiens are you all giving for finger foods? Bonus if it requires minimal cooking from me
DD loves shredded cheese. She also likes turkey breast lunch meat. The inside of a chicken finger was one of her first proteins. Grilled salmon is also a favorite.

Today the twins had cubed pork tenderloin and cubed cheese. They love black beans.
Hey ladies, Sorry for another sippy/straw cups question but for those of you that have transitioned to this, at nap time, does your LO drink from the sippy/straw? Did it take a while for them to adjust? We seem to be attached to bottles more than I realized...
How do you cut up things like quesadilla or sandwiches for lo? Bonus if someone posts a pic so I can get the visual.
I wish I could just let him bite off but he crams too much in & freaks me out.
For sandwiches I pinch a piece between my fingers and pull it off. The bread smushes a little to keep everything together. We have not dine quesadillas
I cut toast and grilled cheese into squares - about the size of a quarter. I rip the frozen waffle in half - but, my boyfriend does thirds or quarters. We now just give a full pancake, since they break apart easily. We cut the chicken finger in half last night, because I thought she might not understand it - but, we could have given it to her as one piece (it was small, but she was eager to eat it). We gave hunks of meatloaf, meatball and fish. I cut her pizza into a one inch strip about two-three inches long.
I think it is hard to watch at first and they gag, but they learn and now T eats slowly. In the beginning, she would cram everything in her mouth like a mad woman. When we question how she is eating we look at each other and tense up - I usually have to tell my boyfriend to let her go or else he'd grab everything from her.

Ok I tried thin strips of pancake this morning instead of pieces & he crammed it all in his mouth & couldn't swallow it so I eventually scooped some out. I think I'll just stick with little pieces for now. With the exception of nutrigrain bars (well the happy baby organic ones) he loves to pull those apart & eat them.
When do the littles transition to one nap per day?
With DS1 his daycare started going to one nap not long after they turned 1 (by 14 months or so). He still did two naps at home on the weekends for a couple of weeks, then went to just one. They did lunch at 11:00 and had the kids down for naps at 12:00ish.

Whole milk questions....
My supply is plummeting so looks like whole milk is starting in a few days!! eek! (pedi ok'd the early-ish start) So...
Should I mix whole milk and breast milk into one bottle as a way to ease him into it? Half and Half? Or just go cold turkey and do some bottles BM and some whole milk?
Also, I currently offer him 5 bottles a day of 5.5oz each. Should I be working to less but bigger bottles? Like 4 bottles at 6.5 oz, etc.?
Finally, from what I understand, once they hit a year, their primary source of nutrition sort of reverses? (prior to a year it came from formula/BM and after it comes from solids?) If that's the case, should I be offering solids first and then a bottle? Separate times? Currently, he takes a bottle of BM first and then I offer solids. If I do it the other way around, he never finishes the BM.
Sorry if this is redundant, I feel like I ask these questions a ton, but now that I'm definitely going to start I'm getting confused! lol
How many LOs are still on purées? I can't get E to eat finger foods at all. She just flat out refuses.
I aim for 3 meals and snacks... usually 2 of the meals are purees and the snacks and third meal is finger foods. I feel like he hardly eats anything with finger foods.... but when I offer a jar he scarfs the whole thing down.
We do scrambled eggs. Or baby bel cheese or beans. Loads of beans. Kidney, white, chickpeas, lentils
jtizzay, i've also never purchased or prepared beans... ever... lol. Do you buy canned beans? or the dry beans that come in a bag? How do you prepare them?
Somers Isles I drain it first and wrap it in paper towels to absorb the excess water. Then I cut it into cubes and put seasoning on it. I cook it on the stovetop in olive oil. I like it cooked until it's a bit brown. There are other ways to cook it, but that's what I do most often. LO loves it. And it's a good texture and softness for her.

Some of this kind of depends on your LO. I think at a year you start the transition to more solids, less milk/formula. Many start this by offering a little less in some daytime bottles or cups and offering it more at meal times in cups. We usually do bottles or nursing separate from meals, but if they are close we do solids first, then milk. As long as they have a good meal and are getting enough to drink throughout the day it's probably not a bad thing to not finish bottles after meals.
When switching to WCM, you can either mix and gradually switch over or go cold turkey if your LO will drink it. Keira started WCM with meals this week and she loves it. I just gave her a cup and she slurped it down. Now the challenge will be to start dropping nursing sessions. She's a total mamas girl.
A question for those that co-sleep: what do you do to make sure LO doesn't squirm away and fall off the bed if your SO isn't around to help/be a second barrier? Somewhat related, what do you do if you have to pee in the MOTN?
I'm sure the proper answer is something like we should have railings or the mattress on the floor. But honestly, if we're cosleeping (we don't usually) and one of us has to leave, we just put up a bunch of pillows to block her. She tends to stay close to me anyway.
I use pillows as barriers when my H isn't in the bed. She stays pretty close to me though. So close that when her body isn't touching mine she wakes up and calls out mama. If I have to pee and she is awake I take her with me and sit her on my lap while I pee.

I use a wall of pillows. DH sleeps in the guest bedroom because he is an awful sleeper and stays up really late watching tv. Linc rarely makes it to the pillow wall because he always stays close to me. If he moved away, I usually wake up and grab his ankle. I rarely pee in the motn, but if I need to before I fall asleep, I call DH to watch him.

lincbeesmom, this is maybe a dumb question... but does this mean you go to bed when LO goes to bed? That would be the hardest part of cosleeping for me I think....or the fact that my kid is a maniac & won't sleep next to me at all anymore.
I don't co sleep often with LO, usually just naps. but when I do I have her sleeping on my arm so I can hold her, I also be sure to put her in the middle of the bed, not on the outside.

Yep I sure do. It sucks but it's not forever. I'm usually in bed by 7 but I stay up for another hour or two messing around on my phone etc. I'm usually so tired by the end of the day, I really don't mind being in bed early. The only thing that sucks is that I don't get to hang out with DH as much as I would like. I think we're going to work on transitioning him soon. Mama wants her man back
