I haven't read the thread, but yesterday was my first day back so here you go:
I was eligible for the 12 weeks of FMLA and CT allows up to 16 weeks. I had 6 weeks STD pay, but there's a 5 day waiting period during which you have to use personal time so I really only received 5 weeks STD pay.
I had 10 more days of personal time to use before the end of the year so I used it the last 10 work days of December. Otherwise my leave was unpaid.

I'm annoyed with myself that I didn't sign up for STD when it was explained to me two years ago. My advisor said that I had to have it for a year in order to use it for maternity. Well idiot OSW didn't expect two years of IF and opted not to take STD because there is no way I'd be able to use it.

Grrrrr. Can someone go back and smack me?
I got lucky. I thought for the past 4 years I had declined STD but turns out I have it. Sorry you're stuck without it.

It is what it is. I'm just annoyed with myself for assuming I'd get pregnant quickly.
Reading this thread, I realize how lucky I am! They just updated our policy: 6 week STD (fully paid), 8 weeks parental leave (fully paid) and I have a ton of PTO, so I'll probably take off 4 fully months. Spouses also get 8 weekend parental leave, and H works at the same company, so H will likely take 2-3 weeks off to start then finish off the last 5-6 weeks. Assuming all goes well with the pregnancy and that we keep our jobs (we fully intend to, but i hate taking things for granted)

OSW maternity leave is completely unpaid. I can use my vacation time, sick time, personal time. I believe NYS also is one in five states that pays disability.
I get to use up all my personal/sick time and then have to take the rest of my leave unpaid. I only have 3 weeks of saved paid time so I'll have to have 3 weeks of unpaid leave to total 6 weeks of leave from work. I'm allowed to take up to 12 weeks and keep my job but we cannot afford that since it would be all unpaid, as I am the sole income to our household right now. God I wish I could afford to take off 12 weeks.

It really sucks.
H may get laid off in the summer so he is telling me I should go back to work from home at 3 weeks...ummm nope. I can't do my job crazy exhausted.

My company doesn't offer any paid maternity leave other than your PTO, but I am in CA so I get paid STD and FMLA through the state. State STD covers 4 weeks prior to the birth and 8 weeks after (for c-section, 6 if it is a vaginal birth). Then you get 6 weeks paid FMLA, which you can use up to a year after the birth and throughout the year if you want.

Are you referring to the parental leave thing that was passed last year? If so, it doesn't go into effect until 2018

No I think it falls under disability pay. I know a lot of my friends were paid $200 per week or something from the state.

ETA: I just read max of $170 per week.
I never heard of this. I will have to look into it, thanks!
Which reminds me... my particular agency considers me disable at 36 weeks for pregnancy, which means they'll accept for me to go out of work at that point. Maybe I can get around OGS's stupid rules of needing it to be "medically necessary" to leave work prior to my EDD.
I also heard you can't work past your EDD in NY but I don't know how true it is..

How do you go about getting that?
I just assume I'm exempt from most stuff because I'm a union teacher and teachers tend to operate inside a bubble. That and I'm bound to my union contract and whatever it dictates.

cnf2013 I'm also unioned so we can learn together!
That said, I don't think we're automatically exempt for being unioned, especially being in this state.

Paid FMLA! I hope other states follow soon.
New York is starting this in 2018, but teachers don't qualify for some reason I can't remember. MIL explained it to me because she goes around the state and trains companies on HR stuff and knows everything. But I forget the reason. It makes me sad.

I'm not eligible for a normal maternity leave since I've been with my employer for less than a year, but I think it's going to work out OK. They will give me 4 weeks unpaid leave, past which they will extend it with a certification of medical necessity. My doctor is willing to say I need 12 weeks. And I'm in RI, so we have state STD. I'll be getting 10 weeks (or 12 for c-section) paid at about 60% of my salary.
I qualify for FMLA, and 6 weeks of that will be paid at 60% via STD. My company also gives ~6 weeks fully paid, so the 12 weeks will be paid in some way. I may look into taking another month unpaid if we can afford it.
This is my understanding of it all from my HR person, and I'm hoping they're right about it all.
I have 6 week of paid parental leave plus 6-8 weeks of short term disability (paid at 66%). I'm going to use 40 hours of sick time and then save all my vacation time for when I go back (for sick days and planned vacations/daycare closure etc)

I've never been told that but I scheduled myself up until the last day my doctor would let me go (2 weeks past EDD)

I believe just through NYS disability. I hope to know more after my meeting with HR on Monday. I know fairy god boss has some information if you goggle maternity leave nys
My company does STD for pregnancy (up to 2 weeks before and 6/8 weeks after) and it's paid 100%. After that, you can take up to 12 weeks for FMLA unpaid. I was really happy to find out that they don't count STD in the FMLA time since I know that's rare.
The way my timing worked out, my 6 weeks ended 2 weeks before the holidays. Since the week between Christmas and New year is a company holiday, I went back to work for 7 days, used up my 3 vacations days for the year (which are use it or lose it) and got paid through Jan 2nd. Then I started FMLA on the 3rd.
