I'm also starting to get really anxious about putting a strong maternity leave plan in place. I seriously don't know how people just put their whole jobs on hold for 6+ weeks. It's making me twitchy.
I just posted all of this yesterday lol. Or two days ago.

PepperPottsJ I totally should have connected the dots between you and hpnegirl because both of your MILs make me crazy. I don't know the in depth stories as much with hpnegirl but Pepper's MIL is fucking crazy.

You plan early then come up with a plan for slowly passing off your work. You write up needed procedures and plans and then start training people to carry on your projects. It seems intimidating but it's manageable. You also plan for if you need to go early by writing up the plans because that way, if you don't get to finish training, there's a fall back plan

I have all kinds of stories...
One of my "favorites" is from when we got married. She wanted to dance with DH to "you raise me up" (hell no) and have me carry out DS1 to join the dance half way through (hahahaha no). She got neither of those wishes... she also wanted to be our photographer, which again, was a no

I'm currently on a contract project covering for two people with back to back maternity leaves. Make sure if you write things out that you give them to someone who isn't familiar with your tasks (or the person who will take over if you have that ability) and make sure it makes sense to them. Most of the instructions they left me are relatively clear but there are a lot of missing steps that I have to use deduction powers to sort out here and there!
TTC since July 2014. CP March 2015. IVF #1 March 2016, 5R, 3M, 2F with ICSI. Transferred 2 on day 3. CP. Surprise BFP and then CP August 2016 (prep cycle for IVF). IVF #2: zero eggs retrieved IVF #3: 6R, 5M, 5F, 3 (2 8A and 1 11A) transferred, one "B" graded embryo frozen on day 5. BFP (at home 7dp3dt, confirmed 14dp3dt with 1552 beta) and U/S at 5w5d, 2 sacs and 2 yolks!

A coworker was asking me this the other day—wasn't I freaking out at the thought of 12 weeks (at a minimum) out of work? Given my Type A nature, it was a reasonable question. But it honestly hasn't crossed my mind. I'm wondering if that will change.

I didn't start freaking out about it until now. As the end is in sight. Until month 7, I was like - this will be awesome, I'm going to drink wine and stay up late and binge TV. Nope, now I'm like, who the hell is going to work with my customers. I'm freaking out about my team reading my notes on them lol.
onesweetworld before I forget, I'm actually waiting for the day that she blames J's hypothyroidism on us following the recommended vaccine schedule... she (who has a PhD in chemistry, btw) told DH that we should consider not doing vaccines because DH being vaccinated may be the reason he has hashimoto's... 😒

Me too. I am a social worker and the idea of leaving my 23 families in the hands of someone who doesn't know them scares the crap out of me. Plus, everyone is overworked and I worry my families will take a back burner just because they are "not that other persons". Plus the whole idea of having all case notes, case plans, and work up to date seems an impossible task!

They should become friends, let's leave the mother son dance at my wedding as Folk music... she ran away at the airport on way to the wedding also. I had 1 attire ask of her, actually the whole wedding party, wear whatever the fuck shoes you want but I don't want to hear flip flop sounds. What does she do... wears 'sequences' fit flops.

The handing off the plan to someone else part is where I struggle. I'm very much a "I'd rather do it myself" type of person, to a fault. I'm bad at delegating. It's something I've been working on for about a year in my current job.

I think it's hitting me now because I'm really ramping up my planning to open another school in August. The timing is what's scaring me. I'll go on leave mid-July and hope? pray? that the school opens seamlessly and fully enrolled. I'm going to do my best to do what I can ahead of time, and I just hired an assistant on Friday, so she'll have about 6 months to learn procedures and such before I'm off. Luckily we have a team of amazing staff members who will pick up the slack, as long as I can learn to delegate properly--explain in detail what needs to be done and when.
For those following along at home, the reason MIL doesn't want to mail the gifts is... "he won't know who they're from !!eleventy!!" He's going to be 2. He's not going to put together that they're birthday gifts or remember they're from her. It's not like we won't tell him they're from her. FFS 🙄

I'm home from work and relaxing in the recliner but all I can think about is the mountain of work that I still have to do. At least it's helping me not freak out about my blood draws tomorrow.
Someone tell me - do they draw blood before the drink and then again at 1 hour?
The standard for the 1 hour is just one draw at the hour mark. The 3 hour has 4 draws, because it includes a fasting draw. Variations include the fact that apparently a few places use finger sticks instead of venous draws, some places let you take the 1 hour drink home and just self-report when you had it, some places let you drink water during the test and some don't, and people get different instructions about fasting vs. eating before the 1 hour.
If you aren't sure if you'll be allowed to drink during the test make sure you've had some water before the test starts so you aren't dehydrated and the draw isn't any worse than it has to be!

Oh I plan on drinking at least two bottles before I get there. I'll lose my mind if I can't drink during the test. I'm a floater. I typically drink 100+ ozs a day.

I drank enough before my test that I had to pee twice during the hour wait. And yet of course when I get back to have my blood drawn and they're getting out the heat packs and tying the awful tourniquets as tight as they'll go to see which arm is better they always accuse me of being dehydrated. I've learned the hard way to put the lidocaine cream on both sides because it can constrict the veins a bit and if I just put it on one they'll decide the other side is better and want to use it

Yeah I think I will put it on both sides as well. I know they are taking a urine sample too so I'll be ready to pee for sure lol.
