LizInFL I think I missed you are moving to VA. I vaguely remember you talking about it but as more of one of the possibilities. We really enjoy the area we are in, not exactly sure where you will be although I am guessing I have an idea.
Hi all. We jumped up early to get out the door to preschool, and I'm just now getting a chance to check in. I took C over to my parents' this a.m. and my mom and took her out for a nice long walk...weather has warmed up into the 60s so it was perfect for getting outside.
Our girls' night out was fun...we had dinner and saw La La Land...definitely recommend it if you like musicals, it was very cute.
Thanks to naps yesterday, C's good nighttime sleep seems to have been restored. At one point yesterday she started to wake up from a nap so I set her bouncer down outside the laundry room, where the washer was filling, and I think the sound lulled her back to sleep. This afternoon, I turned on the Roomba when she started to stir from a nap, and she passed back out for another 2 hours. Household appliances for the nap-time win! I hope they don't start asking for raises or benefits

I didn't realize you were up that way! I was thinking TX, I guess b/c of "aggie", haha. Yes, my H is a Navy pilot, so we'll be in HR. His assignment here is up at the end of July. We lived there for a couple years when we were engaged/newlyweds, so we know the area and like it fine; it's just hard b/c we were really hoping to stay put here for a couple more years, and my family is here.
The yoga instructor from my prenatal yoga class gave us referrals for a chiropractor that she uses with her kids. I meant to look them up. I would definitely not go to just anyone if we decided to do it. I was mostly curious about it.
You should look up baby massage. There are some easy techniques you can do at home safely.
I usually give him a mini massage after a bath when I lotion him up. I've never looked into a formal technique though. I'll check out some videos.

Haha yeah I was born and raised in TX and all of our family is there but we have lived in northern Virginia for almost 5 years now (wow hard to believe it's been that long) and really enjoy it. I understand not wanting to move, military life is not for the faint of heart.
Speaking of HR that is the setting for the book/ movie Hidden Figures. Just finished the books, rather interesting.

So my pediatrician recommended that we keep C off his back when he's awake to help the unevenness of his head. I'm at a loss at what to do for play time. He only tolerates tummy time for so long. We dance around a little and I prop him up on the boppy to talk. But that's about all I can think of at this stage since he doesn't really "play".

Probably not quite old enough but I know the Fisher Price sit me up is a good possibility.
goldenlove3 we had that issue with B...it did eventually round out and looks fine now, but we had to make a concerted effort to keep him off the 'bad' side. I think the swing likely caused his...he loved that thing.
Once he can hold his head up consistently, you can use a Bumbo seat (or similar); we also had a Jumperoo that was a help. I think we started using that when B was b/n 3-4 months. Wearing him in a front carrier is good, and a play mat helped make tummy time more tolerable.
Not play-time related...If he tends to favor one side, try alternating the direction you lie him down in when you do put him down for nap/at night (B always wanted to look 'out' from the wall, so we'd rotate him to encourage him to turn his head, if that makes sense?)
If I think of anything else that we did, I'll let you know. This age is kind of tough, though...gets easier to help as they get a bit older, and IIRC our pedi said you have til they're about 8 months old to get it worked out.

aggiebug No, she didn't think it was anything serious. She said it should work itself out but mentioned it so we can start to do things to help it.
LizInFL Thanks! I'm sure it'll be much easier when he can sit up on his own. We use an activity mat now and do have a jumperoo for later. I just started switching his side of the crib last night. If it is 8 months to take care of it, that makes me feel much better!

aggiebug I didn't realize til the last couple days that Hidden Figures was based on a book. The movie looks excellent. A friend of my mom's has a daughter who works in the film industry and screens movies, and often passes them to her parents before they're released in theaters. They said of all the current releases out, Hidden Figures and one called Lion are must-see's.
LizInFL looking at the book it appears to have been published in December, so it's has to have been written concurrently or even the book was an after thought. It is well written though.

Ugh. DD's constipation issues resolved itself during nap time and all over her and the bedding and her security bunny. So give her an emergency bath and start that load in the washer. Put it in the dryer and IT WONT START. So now her bunny is wet, awesome. Along with my only two nursing tank which I wear at night double awesome.
Oh aggiebug that's awful idk what kind of bunny it is but could a blow dryer help?
I'm way too excited that DS's bedtime has arrived. Once he's down I can finally eat! Day 2 of solo minding these two was a success but I have a whole 'nother one coming up tomorrow 😩

It is currently hanging in front of a space heater (not close enough to catch fire), but that is my next move. Thankfully it's small and knit.
My nursing tanks are the bigger conundrum tonight. Without them holding the burp cloths in place my bed and I are going to be soaked tonight.

danib O is very gassy and very mucousy too! He constantly sounds like he's congested. We call him our zombie baby. It concerns me that she thinks that's a food sensitivity. I gusss I will ask my ped when we go. Why dairy? (I just ate ice cream...)
cookswithwine9 cow's milk is the most common dietary sensitivity in newborns and one of the primary proteins left intact in breast milk followed by soy I believe. The nasal congestion is also a common side effect of reflux, and was one of the reasons my pediatrician believes DS has a mild case. Since DS is growing well, generally easy to keep happy, and sleeps pretty well for a newborn he said changing my diet was the next step but it was up to me whether it was worth it or not. So far it hasn't been worth it
2 hours of rocking a newborn to sleep does not even compare to the frustration of 2 hours putting a toddler back to bed for 2 hours. Grrrrr. He is finally alseep, thank friggin god.

+1 to what aggiebug said. How are his diapers? Mucousy? Frothy? Green or any blood? An actual intolerance will cause gastric inflammation in addition to congestion/gas. M's diapers were scary bad before all the proteins (soy and dairy) left my system and hers, but her congestion and gas are 100% reflux.

I think I have a difficult baby.
Today I'm ok with that, but sometimes I read through these threads and am shocked (and. maybe dismayed?) that my kid sleeps in a day what some of these babies are pulling in one solid stretch. It's been a battle these last two weeks trying (and failing) to get her to sleep on her own.
But man, when she smiles. Its like everything good in this world just floods through me.
Holy fuck I'm tired. Idk how SAHM's do it. I really don't. I'm in awe.
Any idea when the nanny will be feeling well enough to come back? I cannot imagine how you guys do two. The thought terrifies me.
Wine. The wine will help.
She's okay but still has a runny nose and is feeling run down, so we agreed it's probably better if she doesn't come back to our [blessedly sickness free thus far this winter KNOCK WOOD] house yet. Good news is that my MIL called and she can help me out tomorrow afternoon!

I can't imagine having a baby that sleeps so little when they're this young and dependent on you. You're killing it, honestly. I'm so glad she rewards you with those smiles
