Toddler and Preschooler Check-in (1/10-11)

DS is 15 months

I've srsly been saying this every week, but it blows me away how quickly he learns new words. This week it was "bye bye," which gets accompanied by waving. He's also done better w/ eating this week (although not great). We were even able to sneak meat in a few times

Toddler tantrums. And hitting has been occurring more and more, especially right in the face.

We've been eating breakfast around the same time, and if he finishes before me, he asks to get in my lap ("up please"). Then he ever so sweetly asks if he can eat my cereal ("more please"). I mean, how could I say no to that?!

Adults are good. I'm in a bit of a post-holiday funk, and basically don't have much motivation. Need to snap out of that.

Age: 3.75 (when she's out of preschool and in pre-k prep, I may move over to the other check-in )

Milestones: She's getting really good at brushing her teeth. She's also picking up more tasks, like packing her school snack by herself each day, unloading her backpack/putting her coat away, and she's starting making her bed/cleaning her room every morning. The surge of independence and helpfulness is welcome!

Challenges: Mainly bedtime. It's not that she's unruly or loud, but she's just not a sleeper. We put her to bed around 8, 8:15 and she'll be up until 10 in her room reading or playing with her stuffed animal. It's frustrating because, with a baby coming soon, I need her to chill at night. I guess as long as she's quiet it'll be okay, but I don't want her thinking that she can stay up/get out of bed/hang with us and the baby. Guess we'll cross that bridge when we come to it.

Funny/cute stories: She told me that Olaf from Frozen farts snowflakes and that it makes her bed cold (she has an Olaf stuffed animal). That's why she gets out of bed to get extra blankets. Sure, kid. Sounds legit.

How are you? Exhausted.

Anything else to share? Between work and home, I want to quit everything for a few weeks.

QOTW: She's pretty bummed. We put the dead tree in the corner of our yard so we could chop it up later, and she keeps pointing it out and saying, "Poor ol' dead tree..." with this awful sad face LOL

Age: 2

Milestones: talking in more-complete sentences.

Challenges: Naps & bedtime are being resisted. We're still in the crib, so it could be worse. Thankfully, he likes his crib and doesn't try to climb out.

Cute Stories: he's been fabricating stories. This week, he shaved off his mustache in the bathtub upstairs with mom-mom's thing (we think he means razor but doesn't know what it's called) lol wut? Where do they come up with this?? Last week he fussed coming home because according to him our house was broke. Specifically the top was broke, and only he could fix it. He claimed Papa broke it by pushing it over 😂


How are you: good. Been thinking more and more about expanding our family. I can't commit but I can't rule it out. I still lean more on the OAD side of the line though. I think I'd really like to foster and/or adopt one day. Pregnancy frightens me, which is weird because mine was pretty easy and I liked being pregnant.

QOTW: he's not disappointed, but everything is a present now.

Age: 25 months

Milestones: Speaking full sentences for real. Loves using his fire tablet.

Challenges: Eating. LO won't eat dinner, and barely eats more than like oatmeal, yogurt and soup. We have 2 year check up tomorrow so will inquire if I should be concerned.

Funny/cute stories: The nanny dropped by work today and asked if I had time to run out to say hello. I opened the back door to car and D had his coat dropped over his head and was giggling. I said,"Where's D?" and he said,"Mommy, come hide! I have kisses!" So sweet and cute!

How are you? Exhausted and stressed.

Anything else to share? Nothing really...hate this time of year, makes everything seem more stressful.

QOTW: Is your little one sad that the holidays are over? Aside from asking,"Where's baby G?" (cousin), nothing seems amiss.
