I didn't disappear, I swear! Things have just been a little crazy getting used to 3 kids, 4 and under. Anyway, here's Nolan's birth story...
Nolan was born at 39 weeks exactly. The night before, we had gone to Disneyland with our girls for about 2 hours. We didn't actually walk all that much, so I don't think that contributed to me going into labor. I did want to get things going though, so that night and the next morning, I did some nipple stimulation and had a few contractions. FI and I also DTD in the morning, and I think that's what pushed me into labor because I started really contracting consistently after that. I was having contractions about 10 min. apart, so I went on a walk to see if they'd get closer together. They ended up getting closer together/more intense while I was standing up or walking, but as soon as I'd sit down, they'd spread out again. At that point it had been a couple hours, so I called my OB to decide what to do. She basically left it up to me to either wait it out at home or to go to the hospital where she'd likely augment with pitocin. I told her I'd wait about a half hour then decide. After that time my contractions hadn't really gotten more intense, but I told FI we should probably go in. Somehow he didn't really get the message that it was go-time because he was lolly-gagging getting his stuff together, and after we dropped the girls off with his parents he told me he was going to have to go back to grab some more of his stuff at some point because I "rushed him out the door." Whatever dude.
So we got to the hospital, and they got me hooked up to monitor me for a bit while we waited for my OB to get there. FI left after I got settled to go back home to get the rest of his stuff. Before heading back to the hospital, he called me to see if he had time to go get donuts lol! I told him no and gave him shit for it when he got back. Then my nurse came back and told me I was contracting about 2 min. apart, but I still managing ok pain-wise. We decided to give me the epidural preemptively anyway so they didn't have to do it after my OB broke my water and I'd likely be in more pain. The epidural ended up taking more on my left side, so I couldn't move that leg, but I could move my right one. Right after, they had me laying on my back to check how dilated I was, but my ears started ringing and I felt like I was going to pass out, so they had me roll onto my side. The same thing had happened when I was in labor with DD2, really weird. My contractions had started stalling out, I was still only 3.5 cm dilated, and breaking my water didn't help to pick things up, so they started me on pitocin. A close friend of ours stopped by the hospital on his way home to give his congrats. He didn't stay long though, because not even an hour after starting the pitocin, I started feeling a ton of pressure. So he left, and the nurse came back to check me. It was time to push, so my OB came back in, and as they were getting me into position, Nolan's heart rate started dropping really low with every contraction. It was scary to hear on the monitor. And then, since I had to be on my back to push, my ears started ringing and I started getting light headed again! Luckily putting an extra pillow behind my back helped, because at that point we needed to get him out quick. So with the next contraction, my OB had me push, and with that one push he was out! Nolan Reid was born at 8:40 pm on Dec. 17, weighing 7 lbs. 1 oz, and 19.5 inches. He turned out to be smaller than my girls were when they were born, even though my OB thought he'd be bigger.
I can't figure out how to post pics, so if anyone can explain it to me I will!
