ls2012, I know! I don't get it with baby clothes. The sizes all seem so arbitrary. In some brands, clothing sizes seem to run HUGE and others SUPER SMALL. I definitely got a few 9-12 month onesies at my shower that looked 6 months AT MOST.

Newb question for you STM - anecdotally, is there any trend to how active or inactive your babies were the day you went into labor? I want to preface this with I don't at all think I'll be going into labor early - Little nugget has been extremely active today, and my BH contractions have felt a little different (I usually only feel them at the top of my uterus, had a few with accompanying pain lower down). When I told DH she was super active he asked if she was trying to fight her way out. So, got me thinking, any trends you noticed?

My coworkers threw me a shower today! I wasn't expecting anything, but they surprised me for sure. I walked in with an armful of procedures, notes, and plans for my maternity leave LOL The boss ordered lunch and they had cake (marble with chocolate mousse). It was a really sweet surprise.

J was normally active the day I went into labor - no noticeable increase/decrease in movement. And I didn't realize I was in labor. My contractions started in the MOTN, and I thought I had to poop LOL I got up twice to try and finally realized about 4 hours later they were contractions. I must have been sleeping through most of them.
Keep an eye on the BHC. I've had some painful ones, but they come-and-go with no pattern and aren't any more painful than a bad gas bubble. If you notice consistency, time 'em for fun!

Thanks! I actually have this (what I assume is an irrational) fear that I won't know when I'm actually in labor. I'm pretty sure I'm not that lucky, though. Also, that's so awesome about the surprise shower!!!

Dude, when my mom was in labor with me, she thought she had gas all day. She labored ALL DAY until my dad suggested they time them for fun. Her contractions were 1.5 minutes apart, and I was born 1 hour after they arrived at the hospital. A unicorn. My mother is a unicorn.

I will literally explode if someone posts our news on Facebook before I get to. ESPECIALLY the team green aspect. If someone reveals that before I get a chance, they are getting excommunicated.
My mom will be the last to know because she is like that. She told everyone the first time I was pregnant (WAY before I wanted to share with anyone) because she just HAS to be the center of attention. I told her not to tell anyone yet and she told EVERYONE. She says "I just couldn't help it!" Well I just won't be able to help but tell you last.....
If I didn't have to set up childcare with my firstborn, my ideal situation would be calling people after the fact with "hey you have a new niece/nephew." That was my ideal last time too, but MH was dying to tell his parents when my water broke. They are fine and not overbearing but I still didn't want them visiting me in the hospital. I just wanted to be alone and I'm sure I'll want the same this time, but H doesn't get that. Hopefully we can have a productive conversation about it again soon.
dancerspose, I'm so glad I'm not the only one. I've had identical fears about not being positive I'm in labor.
+1 on this for me. Last time my water just broke so it was obvious that it was go-time. If I start getting contractions this time instead of a big obvious water break, I don't think I'll know what to do! I don't know how I'll know for real I'm in labor!

With DD we talked to our families beforehand and we only told our parents and sisters the day she was born. We asked them to tell everyone the next day, which was a holiday, so it worked out great because we had the first day just for us and then day two tons of people came.
We also asked (and still do) that people don't post pics of her to social media. I got more pushback on this early on but now it's fine, only FIL who is a jerks keeps disrespecting this.
Oh and hospitals here always call your room first before letting people in to visit you - if it's someone you don't want to let in they will say you can't take visitors now or make something up. It's awesome.

STM and nervous I won't have back labor again and thus won't notice I'm in labor. Lol
Probably all our fears are unfounded. As soon as you figure out that there's a pattern, you can start timing them - and then we'll know they're contractions.

I'm wondering what this kid is going to do. DD1s was days of contractions, followed by my water slightly tearing, followed by induction, followed by nothing, followed by finally having a baby. Then DD2's was water break and baby shot out like a cannon 35 mins later. Seems like it could be a coin toss. We're getting the home birth kit in case things are fast again but mentally I'm prepared for agonizingly slow again. I'd like a happy medium. Like an hour, 2 tops.
I actually wondered if I was going to go into early labor today because I woke up STARVING the day I had DD2, and I swear I have not stopped eating today. But it turns out I am just a pig.

Yeah I'm assuming the old adage that if you question if it's a contraction/labor it's not....of that's wrong I'll be in trouble! Haha
Our hospital didn't screen people or anything like that. I wish they had. One of my co-workers at the time came right into my room shortly after I had given birth (and my kid was in the nicu) because her daughter had a false labor incident, and she was peeking in the rooms to see if she knew anyone. Like, wtf.
loves2shop4shoes I did the same thing this weekend with MIL. She asked if she could be in waiting room and I without hesitation flat out said NO. Then later as we are leaving asks if she can be phoned when we go, again NO, Not telling anyone. Sorry if that hurts anyone's feelings it's life.
I am not like that normally, so I'm glad I was able to put my foot down. It was probably a bit too forceful of a tone, but hopefully she can just respect it.
staz I completely understand how you are feeling. I want to have some time just the three of us, and I don't want to worry about the outside world for that period of time. We waited so long for this, now that it's almost here I just want to enjoy it as a couple.

OB said yes to trying flonase to help relieve symptoms and suggested unisom as an alternative sleep aid. Trying that now.
She also gave me an Rx for a z-pak if nothing improves by late this week and an Rx for nor.co in case I really need something for pain management. I don't intend to use it unless I'm desperate, but it's comforting to know it's there.
