onesweetworld she's getting so big! but I don't think she'll be a very big kitty. She's like 11 months old right now and tiny compared to some of my friend's cats. DS and her are best friends though. He loves playing fetch with her with random objects (like his food pouch caps or half pieces of plastic easter eggs).

I'm really excited to see what happens with the baby and our animals. We have one cat that hates everyone and I'm really hoping she is M's best friend.

I have a feeling our dog will have zero interest until the baby is eating real food. Then she'll be ready to lick them at all times. We'll see what happens when the kid is older and can interact with her. She's already older (~11 years), so we're just hoping she won't be a totally cranky grandma dog.

Yeah I'm nervous about my dog biting the baby but he has only ever snapped at me and MH. He doesn't nip at my mom or anyone else.

Have you thought about (or already done) obedience training or hiring a trainer to come to your home? People ditching their dog after they have a kid is a soft spot for me, so I try to help anyone ensure they're prepared and tried everything before going that route. Not saying you would do that, just putting it out there as I'll get fired up about it.

Lol worst case scenario with him is that he would go live at my moms house or in the camper with MH. Don't worry, he will never get ditched.
He and I have done some training as I'm the alpha. If he gets nippy, I will use the muzzle and go back to keeping him on a leash next to me until he can behave off the leash and without the muzzle. We no longer give him bones as he resource guards. He is only allowed treats that he will eat instantly. The one thing I cannot figure out how to stop is his growling when I move him off me in the middle of the night. He gets pissed when I have to move him over or when Mh tells him to get out of bed to go potty.
When we had his crate when he growled and barked I said crate and he would go in there to calm down. But MH took down the crate and I have no idea where it went.

I'm really worried about how LouDog is going to do with Ollie. Louis just needs SO much attention ALL. THE. TIME. If we're home and H is rubbing my feet or something, Lou will climb up and push his hands away from me to try and get him to pet him. He'll do the same thing with me if I'm holding my cell phone or a book or something. I'm worried he's going to be super jealous of Ollie.

Our Dane will be terrified. You've seen my FB haha. Our other dog will be great. She's the most patient, accepting, cuddly dog ever. She cuddles with the cats daily. The cats will probably be pretty uninterested. Not surprised.

He probably will be jealous but he may surprise you and just lay with the baby to protect him.

We worked with our dog to get her used to having her fur/tail/ears pulled before DS was born. If you haven't already I'd suggest doing that. She won't bite or snap at him and man do I spend a lot of time working on gentle with DS

Your giant baby Dane lol. My mastiff will also be afraid of her.

For those with pets, they say to bring home something the baby has worn or slept with and get them acclimated to the smell prior to coming home with baby. Whether it works, I don't know first hand, but I know that's the advice they gave out

I will do that. I also let him in her room to see what's in there. Trying to get him acclimated to her stuff.

Yes, I've read that!
Other advice I've seen:
- Set up and use the larger baby items for a few weeks ahead of time. Push the stroller while you walk the dog. Put things in and out of the crib. - If you're planning to use a white noise machine, run it every now and then. - There are apparently recordings of crying babies out there - play those every now and then. - Teach your dog a safe place for them to retreat to and give them a command to go there. This will help you get them out from under your feet if needed in a crazy moment and also give them an escape from small children. The rule is no one can bug them while they're there. Of course, the adults can give them a command to come/get out/whatever as needed.

We leave the door to the nursery open. The pets don't really go in there on their own tho but they can get used to the smell of things. Dexter occasionally goes in there to steal teddy bears. We also plan to start setting baby stuff up around the house, turning them on, letting the toys play sounds, etc to get them acclimated to baby ear. And yes I've also heard about bringing baby blankets home from the hospital to introduce baby thru smell.
Do it!!! Mine might already be in the back of my car 😐
This is exactly what I want to do!!!!!
We've also done short walks to the stop sign and back with the dogs and the empty stroller. I'm the primary dog walker in our house so I want them to learn not to be afraid of the stroller.
