Lilah will be 11 weeks on Friday. She is batting at toys and grabbed one yesterday and one today. Mostly she still has her hands closed still, though. She can push up onto her fists, but prefers to rest on her forearms. Very good head control, follows toys with her eyes and will turn to look at things. She does well in the bumbo seat and holds herself up in the carrier. She's cooing and smiling A LOT, but no laughing yet.
She will nurse to sleep, but can also put herself to sleep chewing on her hands or will just get tired and pass out.
No real schedule still, but goes down around 9 for the night. We've been getting 5-6 hours for the first stretch and then either two 2 hour stretches or a 3 and a 2 hours stretch for the rest of the night.
Eta: She has been rolling tummy to back for a while, but doesn't do it much. She will roll onto her side sometimes from her back, but hasn't done back to tummy yet.
Colin is 12 weeks old and he seems to be on track with that list.
With tummy time he will do it for a couple minutes and will pick up his head for a few seconds but he's usually just content with laying on his hands and sucking on it. He's not even close to lifting his whole body and seems to have no interest in trying to roll over yet.
He talks a little bit here and there. He smiles all the time and has started to giggle more. Tickling makes him chuckle but I've also gotten him laughing just by talking silly a couple times. He apparently like Fozzie Bear (wakka wakka wakka).
His hands are still mostly clenched and he might grab a toy if I put it in his hand, but he's mostly not interested in toys. He grabs my hair and burp cloth though. He will kick his piano and just yesterday started playing with a spin toy with his hands, but I don't think he really knows what he's doing. It seems to just be his hands/feet going wild.
He seems to know that his bib means food is coming and is starting to recognize his bottle too. He stares at me from across the room and follows me around. He gets startled from loud noises. He has great head control and will sit up or even stand with assistance.
ETA: He typically goes down for the night around 9, has one wake-up around 2/3, then gets up again around 7/8. Naps are mostly 30 minutes, maybe an hour. I'm slowly starting to see a schedule forming but he has his off days. He eats 5-6 oz per feeding, usually every 3 hours during the day.
J bats at toys on his playmat and will grab his rings when I hang them from the top of his playmat. He actually isn't bothered by tummy time and can rest pretty comfortably on his arms. He has good head control. He likes to "talk" and is constantly smiling. He hasn't rolled. He really hasn't gotten close to rolling yet.
This is Caroline exactly. Bradley was a late roller (b/n 4-5 months) but on time or even a bit early with crawling and walking. I'll be interested to see how things shake out with C.
She's laughed in her sleep a couple times--which is always kind of startling--and the other day I was holding her while she dozed and she snort-laughed (gets that from me:) But no 'awake' laughter yet.
RE: sleep, we don't have a real nap schedule but she gets plenty of daytime sleep whether we're home or on the go. For bedtime, she goes down b/n 9-10 and typically sleeps til 7 a.m. For naps, she usually just passes out. At bedtime, I nurse her til she's drowsy or just barely asleep and then put her down. My goal is 8 pm (when DS is tucked in) but I'm not messing with it at this point b/c she's such a good sleeper; we'll get there.
I also want to caution with comparisons we have almost a 6 week spread in ages on here I think (not counting our super Monty because he was extra early ) and when a few days can make a huge difference a week difference in age generally isn't a good comparison. Add in a broad range of what is normal it can be easy to worry. Heck seeing the differences a few weeks makes in my newly minted two year old is quite impressive. cheshie6 I especially say this to you, as our youngest baby and a ftm I *know* it's easy to get caught in the comparison wheel struggle.
DS is 12 weeks tomorrow and is lifting his trunk off the ground, grabbing toys (and hair, ouch!) And beginning to roll side to side but not over. He smiled and coos/ laughs like it's going out of style, his loves sticking his tongue out and makes raspberry noises. He is also tracking people and toys and finding noises.
I have seen a pretty consistent routine in his schedule but its just an observation at this point.
aggiebug Phew I am so glad you said that. As a FTM I was freaked out over here even knowing that there could be some differences but neither of mine are doing a lot of these things - like the lifting of trunk or rolling over (not even close). Of course it could be because they aren't put down a lot which I will be focusing on a lot more. My issue with tummy time is always that they take so long to eat then I want to let them digest for like 20 minutes and then it's like back to nap time or they start to get cranky.

It will come right now it is also about personal survival and with twins I can imagine that makes it harder. Inclined tummy time on your chest helps with trunk strength too if that makes it easier to fit in for you. Hard to learn to roll over in your arms but they still get strength and coordination
Lol kleigh I too have a small window for tummy time. If I do it too close after eating J will be doing tummy time in a pile of spit up. Seriously. The kid needs a solid 2 hours after eating before I can even think about tummy time. And then when he is ready he's usually sleeping. And then will wake up hungry. It's a vicious cycle really.
OMG my life exactly. By the time they are ready for any "activity" they are looking to go to sleep (yawning) and then they wake up starving, it is so frustrating lol.

kleigh All babies develop at different rates regardless of tummy time etc. Lillian was way ahead physically and Lilah is on track to be (we'll see..she's a different person). Even with big L I was nervous about her meeting other milestones like with communication. I worry about Lilah too, though it's less intense.
ClassyMrsA Have you found it to be true that physical milestones and behavioral milestones are usually an either/or as in some babies are on target with behavioral and some on target with physical - one more than the other. Like they aren't that physical but they are really good at recognizing and responding to things- faces, not just me and H, but family. And if you make a sad face, they do too. If you smile, they smile back. And they smile at the same certain songs and colors - Adeline loves and stares at blue things. And they respond to your sounds with cooing. Actually the more I think about it I guess Adeline is showing physical signs - she really wants to sit and strains every second to be in a seated position and rests on her elbows and holds her head up. She also stiffens her legs to stand on them for a long time, minutes I'd say. I can tell she's frustrated with not being able to move around, very frustrated, I wondet of shell be walking before crawling.

On some level, yes. Although, Lillian was never "behind" and Lilah is definitely on track in all areas or ahead, too. But, yes, the physical stuff is more advanced and the communication stuff is on level or very slightly ahead. With Lillian she didn't skip anything, but was walking at 9.5 months. Some babies will. Lilah is the same as AV, standing with support makes her smile. I think I'm doomed. Sounds like AV will be a mover, too! And that communication stuff is awesome.
kleigh totally jumping in here. I have noticed with B (and the pediatrician has made remarks as well) that B has had really great gross/fine motor skills from the start. He really seemed to have mastered those. Kid can't really talk yet but everywhere else he's doing awesome. He runs and is non stop.. doesn't miss a beat and has a ton of energy but doesn't have great verbal communication. I've heard kids will be busy mastering certain areas and other skills will take a backseat. I'm finding this to be 100% true.
Very cool! While I plan not to compare I am very interested to see both grow side by side especially! Yea I think AV is going to running all over the place. She definitely seems like mama at this point and Alec is so laid back like his dad. Of course this is 3 months old lol - let's see how that changes.
The developmental milestones confuse me but mostly because I think I'm not understanding the lingo as well as there's no consistent list to go by!?! L loves to stand while supported. He'll go into a squat when he's tired and stand back up when ready. Depending on time of day, he seems to love tummy time and he does a lot of cooing. He can lift his head and can keep it steady for a little bit of time. He knows how to get his rocker to rock by kicking his feet.. (he's 8 weeks +1) so I don't know if that's ahead, on point or behind!

This is the way DS was, too. He was physically very advanced while his speech lagged behind. In our case there were reasons for the delay, but I think it's normal for one area of development to progress more rapidly than another.

Mia is laughing, grabbing, and as of last night bringing toys to her mouth. She goes bananas over being able to sit up and will sit contently propped up for awhile, but has no interest in rolling over. She can lift her entire trunk up and has neck control, but as soon as she starts tipping in one direction she startles and tummy time is over.
She tracks voices and faces and recognizes H, the dogs, and I, but will only be soothed by me. She still hates when H and anyone else holds her at home, but tolerates a few minutes here and there at the office.
Sleep. Meh. I don't think she'll ever STTN and I'm accepting that. She fights shutting down so hard, but it's getting better the more of her cues I learn. If I catch them immediately I can nurse her to sleep without any problems. Staying asleep is probably her biggest struggle during the day and the first part of the night.
So I'm going to try to answer this but with two I know it'll be long and I'll probably forget stuff.
12 weeks
Alec - Sits well propped up, holds his head up unassisted for a good length of time but when done he simply flops back down, tummy time usually turns into nap time, does not attempt to roll or use his stomach to try and pull himself up into seated position or try to stand - he has floppy legs. He recognizes voices (me, H), faces (me, H, Adeline, and my mom and FIL), and his eyes follow us across the room. He smiles independently and when prompted with cutesy phrases/sounds and smiles. He laughed out loud in his sleep the other night but otherwise his laughs are quiet. His vocal attempts are calculated - seems to be trying to organize his tongue/mouth rather than just spew out any coo / goo goo. Fists have become mostly open. He reaches for toys on the bouncer, grasps his binkie and brings it to mouth, and is finding his thumb and sucking it. He eats 3-5 oz every 2 hours. He STTN about 8:00p - 5:00a on Adam (fusses for repositioning but no bottle). Daytime naps vary significantly 30 min - 3 hours.
Adeline - Sits extremely well assisted only at the elbow and has full head control (but her trunk needs further strength before she can sit unassisted as she occasionally droops to the side). She constantly tries to sit up and can no longer be propped laying in the boppy as she strains her tummy and neck trying to sit up and it makes her spit up. From the laying position she grasps hands and pulls herself up with help. When held at the armpits legs dangling she "stands" on her feet until you break the position. Swats at toys with hands and feet. Grasps her bottle with both hands (but it's too heavy for her to hold alone). Also finding her thumb and sucking it, not as good with grasping a binkie or toy and putting it in her mouth. Shows what I think is interest in food (not that I'd feed her anything beside formula) but bats at my fork and watches me lift it to my mouth. She HATES tummy time but rolled over today (assistance in positioning her one arm). My guess is she will bypass crawling and go straight to walking. Recognizes and engages Alec - kicks excitedly at his feet, grabs his hands, smiles at him. Recognizes mom, dad, grandma, auntie, and FIL all by face (mom, dad, and my mom she recognizes by voice). She is very vocal. This past week she's been using one word coos to try to "say something" or get our attention vs what used to be cries. She prefers to face outward to watch everything going on. Eats 3-4oz every 2 hours. Has a hard time falling asleep- daytime naps only 10min to 30 min. STTN on mom 6:30p-4am and 4:30am to 7:00am (one other wake up at 1am for repositioning/fussiness - does not take bottle).
