jcrewgirl I am in the same boat. I have just come to terms with the fact DD will be in our room much longer than is ideal. I ended up getting a mini crib, and will be moving it to the opposite corner of the room just so she isn't right next to me. Eventually, DS and DD will share a room, but probably not until DD is sleep trained and STTN (realistically closer to when she turns a year old I think).
DS2 had been sleeping great (only 1 wake up around 3:00), up until he got a bad cold last week. Since then, it's been up 3x each night. Not sure if that is also partly 4 month regression. Since he is getting close to rolling and sleep is crap anyway, I stopped swaddling a couple nights ago.
He's getting over his cold and last night went much better. He woke up once around 1:00 but was just chatting to himself so I left him and he fell back asleep on his own. Then up again at 4:00 to nurse. But overall not too bad.
KIddo is going to be 4 months on Sunday. We've got things going on (specifically a long night out) until the beginning of March, but I think right around 5 months he's getting sleep trained.
Anyone else have a timeline planned out?
I keep hoping a switch will flip and this baby will start magically STTN on his own like his brother did. I'm going to give it another month at least since he'll be 4 months on the 14th, and to try to get through all this sickness, before trying anything. So 5-6 months old?
I'm not really sure where to start though. DS1 was somehow a unicorn I guess, despite the fact that we did everything that supposedly we shouldn't, he has (almost) never had an issue with sleep. What book did you read again @kitchen?
I'm also curious, everyone who is saying they don't feed baby to sleep. How, exactly, do you do that? No snark intended. Both my kids' feedings have somehow panned out that their last feeding for the day falls between 7:30 and 8:30, so they eat (ate) and then pass out. I've tried putting DS2 to bed if he happens to fall asleep before his bottle is "due", but he ALWAYS wakes up. Like last night. Bottle was "due" around 8:30, but he passed out around 8. I laid him down and he was up by 10:30. Other times we've tried this he wakes up when his next feeding was "due" or within an hour of that time. DS1 always got a bedtime bottle and then slept all night. When he was around a year old I took it away without any trouble. 🤷🏼♀️
On sleeping and eating--we changed it so that I would feed baby, then read a book, then walk around the room saying good night to stuff before putting him in the crib. I'm not doing that now with DS2 because I'm desperate for sleep, but will start once he moves into this own room.
britta, We just try to keep him up a little bit after his evening feed. We don't change his diaper until after he ate, and once a week we'll give him a bath to keep him awake. We just try to get a little bit of time between eating and sleep, even if only 30 minutes, so he doesn't rely on eating to fall asleep. It is also his routine to take a nap when we get home from daycare so he's somewhat rested during that last feeding and not overly tired.
I think if we don't hit the sleep regression by 5 months, we will start sleep training. I'm going to let daycare know she can start putting DD in the PNP for naps since currently it's just wherever she falls asleep (usually the swing). I can't wait to get this baby on a schedule.
iwantbacon by the end of his bottle he's literally a limp noodle in my arms. He doesn't even move when I lay him down. But erien22846 may be on to something...maybe I'll try changing his diaper and see if he wakes a little. Idk. Part of me is like, "Is it that big of a deal? It worked out with DS1..." But I also know that may have been a fluke.
Also, is this where I confess my not even 4 month old gets a bath every night and has for a good month and a half? Another thing I know you're not "supposed" to do, but DS1 has eczema and has never had a problem with nightly baths, so I just KOKO. It's part of their bedtime routine.

Here's my FFC. I'm the opposite. I have the stinky kid. I feel bad but mine gets two a week at best and often just one a week. There is always something that comes up and she is ready to sleep by 7 and will raise hell if I stand in her way.

My first was fed to sleep and if he woke, he needed help going back to sleep. Second feeds to sleep but puts himself to sleep motn and for naps. I think your first was just easy. Your second may need help learning. That doesn't have to be the last feed of the day- but maybe start with naps- feed him when he wakes up from a nap and get the timing so it's not before nap.

He goes down for naps without feeding. We rock till he's drowsy and then put him down.

Rock less and less, have him do more and more of the work.
Also turning 4 months on Sunday. LO is recovering from his cold and mostly only getting up once MOTN. I don't mind one wake up for now.
He is starting to take longer to fall asleep. He'll fall asleep nursing but then wake up when I move him. I've had pretty good success lately with being able to put him in his crib slightly awake and turn on his mobile. He'll fuss a little bit, but usually fall asleep. That would never work with DS1. I'll do more formal sleep training if he gets more difficult to put down.
Right now my biggest issue is that he frequently wakes up 30-60 minutes after he first falls asleep. I'm still awake so it doesn't bother me too much, but I'd like to get him not waking back up so soon.
I'm so confused. Dd2 went down with about a minute of fussing for 3 naps by herself in her pack n play today. Put her to bed at 830 and she's up at 11. Isn't the 4 month regression all about not falling asleep on their own?

From what I've read it's about a lot of different things I guess (growth spurts, maturity in sleeping patterns, decrease daytime eating due to distraction, rolling milestones and more cognitive stimulation) and it seems to affect some babies differently. I *think* we are over it after almost 3 weeks of awful nighttime sleep but it never affected her naps. She is a great napper (2-3 hours!) and she puts herself to sleep with naps. But with nighttime sleep over the past month she would be difficult to put to sleep, frequent waking and difficult to stay asleep when transferring to crib.
Anyone else's baby sleeping on their tummy? We are using the 50/50 swaddle (arms up) and that kept her from rolling over at night but last night she figured it out and woke up crying every two hours because she rolled onto her tummy. Tonight I unzipped one of the arms to give her a bit more mobility but she isn't very good at rolling back onto her back. So tonight at first wake up (45 min after bedtime!!) I just left her on her tummy and patted her back/gave her a paci and she fell back asleep. I know they say once the roll onto their tummy to sleep that you can leave them but it makes me nervous. And I don't think she likes it as much as she does sleeping on her side. Ugh. Overthinking it all and not able to sleep.
danizee we started putting DS2 on his belly to sleep while he had RSV because it was the only way he'd get a good chunk of sleeping without waking up choking and coughing. Now, he'll sleep both ways, but seems to prefer his belly. He goes longer stretches that way. DS1 was a belly sleeper from early on (8 weeks) and would ONLY sleep on his belly.
danizee, G is still sleeping in his back since he's not rolling yet. Once N learned to roll over, he preferred sleeping on his belly. He's 4.5 and still seeps on his belly more often than not.

danizee mine has been sleeping on her belly at daycare sometimes. They start her on her side bc they are trying to work on her flat spot and she rolls to her belly. It could be super paranoid mom talking here but I think you are supposed to lose the swaddle completely once they can roll to their stomach. Maybe she will be able to roll back if she isn't in it? And won't wake you up.
If it was a normal swaddle I would have got rid of it but she can lift herself up on her elbows in this swaddle and has pretty decent arm movement. So, I wasn't super concerned but it doesn't matter now because I ditched it for the Merlin at 3am. Apparently she doesn't like sleeping on her tummy but won't stop rolling onto it. So the Merlin put an end to that as she can't roll in it. But she still slept like crap. She couldn't stop playing with her hands as she isnt used to bare hands. Hoping tonight in Merlin is better!

danizee the Merlin is magic. I put C in it for a month and then I just stopped it completely on Monday with no issues. I feel like it really makes it easy to transition out of swaddling.

Good to know, thank you! She didn't sleep that great in it but she had a lot of exposed skin on her chest so I think I'll put a onesie under for tonight. Did you have your LO naked under? She is at the bottom weight for it so it's got a bit of room. FX tonight goes better!

Her bedroom gets pretty cold at night but even so I felt like she could overheat in it. I put her in a long sleeved onsie with no pants.
More anecdotal evidence but #1 also transitioned really well from swaddle to Merlin to nothing. She started rolling so I got the Merlin bc she still wouldn't sleep well unswaddled. Slept in it for a month as well and then had a fever and I didn't feel comfortable putting her in it. Cold turkey stopped and had no issues at all. She may have even slept through the night the first night we stopped it. It may have just been timing (both kids were around this age where the startle reflex should be going away) but either way I'm a big fan.

Good to know thank you! Her room is at 70. I'm a bad judge of temp because DH and I love to pile on blankets. So I put a short sleeved onesie under and will turn on the fan if she starts to feel warm.
DD has hit the 4m regression I think. She went from sleeping 7-8 hour stretches to waking up every 3 hours. Not terrible obviously, but also not ideal. I'm hoping this changes back to our 7-8 hour stretches soon.
