Planning to TTC #3 soon, and we like to use family names for middle names. I'm planning early since we are running out of girl family names if we have another. My grandmother's middle name is Angeline, and this is a good possibility, but I seem to remember my mom saying once that she pronounces it differently than most people. I'm assuming that means AngeLINE instead of -een.... anyone know if this could be right? She is German if that helps. I don't want to get anyone's hopes up (or spoil a surprise) by asking them, but I don't want to get it wrong either!
Who would the surprise be for if you used it? Wouldn't it be more of a surprise for the Grandmother? If it were me I would probably just go ahead and ask your mom so that I was sure.
ETA I really like the sound of this MN choice, even if line instead of leen, very pretty!
Yeah, I don't think I would mind it being mispronounced or correcting people, especially being a middle name. I'd like it to be a surprise for both my mom and grandma, but you're right, if we get to that point I will probably just need to clarify with my mom.
It could just be family preference for pronunciation or she could be from an area that pronounces it differently (High German vs Low German). I'd check because it may not be the leen/line part they pronounce differently but the beginning. Like how Angela Merkel's name is pronounced (here).
ETA: You could even use Angela Merkel as the basis for your question to your mom saying you heard the way her Merkel's name was said and wondered if it was similar to how your grandmother said it.
ottertails, so helpful, thank you! That's exactly the kind of thing I was looking for but couldn't find. I will do some detective work in the next few months.
