Hey all! We will be traveling to Jamaica for Ms first birthday ( not the reason travel) I'm looking for tips/advice/suggestions for travel out of the country and tropical climate with a 1 year old. We will be gone 10 days and will be doing lots of traveling there. TIA!
We have not traveled out of the country, but we uave traveled cross country.
I have always bought my kids seats on the airplane, and used car seats on the plane. Part of that is my safety obsession, part is I was not going to hold a wiggly baby/kid on a 5 hour flight, I needed my own space. A Cosco Seneca Next is great for travel, compact, light, easy install.
Lots, and lots of snacks on the plane. Things that take a while to eat, to take up time.
I would get some good, safe, strong bug repellant. I can't remember what is baby safe, we use honest Co. on the toddler, but have not put anything on the baby yet.
Maybe a light, easy fold umbrella stroller with storage on the bottom.
You may want to look up car seat laws there. Most countries have different car seat requirements, but I believe that when you are traveling from another country for a short trip you can use a legal car seat from your country of origin.
We always use babyGanics 50 SPF, DD1 was 5.5 when we moved to a tropical location and now we're at such high altitude that we use it on LO too. We travelled a ton when DD1 was little but have only done a couple flights with LO. She's been on 3 different plane trips and only had a seat once.
I've never been to Jamaica but carseats are definitely not a thing in a lot of places around the world, I mean most of the taxis we've been in abroad don't have seat belts so just don't be surprised.
I have a friend living in Jamaica so if you have any really specific questions about taxis or food or anything let me know.
