D had a crappy night last night, out of nowhere. She was amazing all week before that. She's 12 weeks old today and all I can think about is what if I still worked at my old firm and had to go back to work on Monday. I'm tired AF and definitely not ready to lawyer lol
Yesterday was rough with the two kids. Thankfully our nanny will be back today. For now I'm just laying in my bed with D who is being super smiley and making cute sounds at me. DS is awake in the other room but I want to stay here a bit longer. I feel like I didn't get to spend any time with D yesterday because DS was so unbelievably needy, so I'm enjoying this!
waitwhat that sounds like a really nice night! I wish my mom lived closer and we could do stuff like that.
It's super sunny but also super cold and windy here today. DS is sitting in his high chair and every so often he starts making his fire engine sound. Took me a minute to realize that he is actually imitating the sound of the howling wind outside 😂
waitwhat you could also get frosted glass. But it seems like the only way to create privacy would be to change the glass.
E only slept for 40 minutes this morning when she usually gets a nice 2 hour nap at that time. So now we are cuddling on the couch until she's tired enough for me to try again. I hate having to work to get her to sleep. Give me all the sleeps through BFing, car rides, or carrier rides thank you.
At our 3 mo check up the pedi said that now is the time to make sure we are not creating poor sleep habits like BFing to sleep, rocking, anything, but don't do sleep training, it's too early for that. I politely smiled. Yes, my child will just magically lay down and fall asleep without crying anytime I want her to. Right.

Morning ladies! I'm here feeding C and watching the finale of 30 rock. I started watching it when C was born and now it's done. I put the rest of C's 6 month clothes in the wash so he can start wearing them. Some of the outfits still seem big so hopefully they last a while.
My goals today are to take a shower, blow dry my hair and pack C's diaper bag for the night. We're going out tonight and C is staying the night at my ILs. Our friends that got married over the summer had a shitty limo experience so they got a free limo bus. We're taking it bar hopping downtown. Should be a fun night!

Has anyone ever tried combination feeding? Pumping at work is not fun! But I'm not ready to give up nursing so I was thinking if I could give him formula when I am at work and nurse when I am at home. Has anyone had any success with something like that?

cookswithwine9, I personally did not have any success doing a combo feeding with DS1. My supply dried up pretty quickly. I tried it when he was about 5 months old and by 6 months he was exclusively on formula. It was really hard to pump at my job and I had to do it in a bathroom so I dreaded it anyway. Honestly though, I was so happy to give up pumping that I didn't even mind that I couldn't breastfeed anymore. I still got that one on one feeding time with a bottle.

waitwhat That will be me tonight! My mom lives 10 minutes away so we see each other a lot. I'd be ok with a little more distance, but I'm glad she's nearby to help out.
hangry Yeah...I'm not sure how you're supposed to get them to sleep but not sleep train at this age. I mostly nurse Lilah until she's either asleep or dozing before I put her in the pnp. She'll either stay asleep or she'll suck her thumb back to sleep. She will fall asleep in the swing, but she still likes it to be on. She's better at sleeping with it off, but I'm ok with the rocking for now. I think she'll get there on her own since we seem to be moving that direction. No rush here.
goldenlove3 I'm jealous of your night, too! It's going to be a while until Lilah can stay over with my mom. But we should be able to go out for more than an hour or two in the near future!

Four month sleep regression party of two over here. Thought we had an off night. Then thought maybe she wasn't feeling well. Night three thought it was maybe her reflux coming back with a vengeance. Last night it dawned on me.
Anyone else want to come sit at this table? There's wine!
Happy Friday! I got an hour nap today when both kids miraculously fell asleep around the same time! This hasn't happened since those early newborn days! Maybe I'll finish off this amazing day with some wine after dinner tonight!

Also huge, HUGE lol at not starting bad sleep habits while also not sleep training. My daughter laughs at that. She doesn't sleep during the day even with every trick in the book being used. I'm thankful my pedi has a strong willed 10 month old. He admitted that there's a lot he doesn't dare say to parents anymore now that he's living through it.
hangry lol to your peds advice! How did I get a nap in this afternoon? Pulled out the good ole nursing to sleep method! Bam, sleeping baby and sleeping mama!

We stayed in one more day. I think we'll be able to resume playdates on Monday which is good since I'm supposed to host on Tuesday. Today we played a bunch. Lillian got out her train, her barbies, and then Play-Doh. Then we went to the store to get a couple of things. Pie for DH's birthday tomorrow, honey since DH took the bottle I bought on Wednesday to school, and some more saline drops. We had lunch and then I made cookies while Lillian played out back. We need to go pick him up as soon as Lilah is done nursing.
Tonight, I'll make dinner and then he's going out to see a movie. My mom is supposed to come over around 6:30 to help me until bedtime. Once the kids are asleep, I'm going to clean up a bit before going to bed. I don't expect DH will be home until after midnight. Then tomorrow I'll have to get up with the kids to let him sleep. Shouldn't be too bad. I'm making him cinnamon rolls for breakfast.
D has thrush and I've been treating it for a couple weeks now. It was mild to begin with (just a white patch on the tongue, nothing on the cheeks or anywhere else). But I haven't been super diligent at times about applying the medicine the full 4 x's per day.
Anyway a couple days ago I was thinking that not only did it not look better, but maybe it actually looked a little worse, and there were now a couple little black spots toward the front of the white patch on her tongue.
Before I called the pedi today I decided to get my fingers in there and scrape a little. Turns out the black stuff was basically a fuzzy something or other that had gotten stuck there. Ugh I almost gagged thinking about it being there for a few days! Poor thing. A bunch of white crap came off too. Blech!
The good news is that the white patch itself actually looks significantly better now. So maybe it's on the mend and now that I removed all that gunk I'll be able to see the progress.

I hope you can skip sitting here altogether waitwhat!
Glad it's getting better dashook! Sometimes I put triple paste on M's neck roll because I'm scared of it getting a yeast infection. I know not the same thing...I'm really just blabbering.

No, you aren't blabbering! I'm always worried about D's thigh rolls. There are so many and they're so...cavernous. Lol! DS was a disappointingly lean baby (still is) so this is new to me.
Ok sophiegrace and all others, what should I expect with the 4 month regression ?? AV is already waking MOTN again versus the long 8-10 hour solid stretches she used to give. We've had some fun nights of every two hours - is that what it's gonna be?
hangry Interestingly this is everything that's been on my mind recently. Don't sleep train yet but also they start creating habits with the rocking etc, so like, wtf. I was just texting my sister about it last night bc I'm torn. Alec can/does occasionally just fall asleep on his own, or worst case needs to be held til he falls asleep. Adeline..... Yeahhhhhh. We need dark room, white noise, rocking / walking / bouncing / gliding across the floor, and sometimes a bottle also. Like the stars need to align to get her to bed.

So maybe you'll sit at the table with me kleigh?!! The four month 'regression' is when sleep starts running in 45 minute-ish cycles like an adult's. When they hit that light REM sleep they tend to surface, realize they're awake, and decide to let you know. Some babies are unicorns and can soothe themselves back down. Mia will at least give me warning noises some of the time before she fully wakes up and I can get her back down with some belly pats or rubs. I'm still up every hour to do that. Yawn.
Sorry if someone's already answered...I've been trying to write this for 45 minutes.
kleigh I had it a little different with DS. His was more of a 5-month sleep regression and it consisted of him suddenly not being able to fall back asleep. Like, he would sleep from 11-1 and then be wide awake until 4 every. single. night.

Lillian's 4 month sleep regression lasted about a hundred years. Hers went: fight sleep until 11 or 12, wake up every time she was set down, end up in our bed, and still wake up every hour. Oh and then she'd be up for the day at 6. It was the reason she ended up in our bed for months. Literally. I gave up. I deserve a unicorn this time.

Ugh. Around lunchtime Mia started acting funny. Fussy kind of? Then she pooped and I got some smiles so I thought all was well, but then the pattern repeated every 45 minutes for the rest of the afternoon with her falling apart a bit more each time. I left work thinking being home would settle her. Nope. H got home and she was just pathetic. I kissed her forehead and out of nowhere it was like fire. 100.2 temp. I'm so pissed. For the past two weeks I have been parroting at work for everyone to get out of her face and stop touching her. Instead of going mama bear on them when not a single person listened, I just gave up and silently stewed inside. My poor baby. I need to stand up for myself better.
ETA: i realize that having her there is a novelty, but it's a medical office. Infection control and mode of transmission is a part of every single quarterly meeting. I'm sure you can guess how many times I've witnessed hand washing before touching her. The more I write the angrier I'm getting at myself. It's my fault she's sick all because I don't want to be labeled a bitch.

I've already said DS1 was a magical baby who never went through a sleep regression, but don't worry, DS2 is my sleep karma. Kid has been in a sleep regression his entire life. I'm convinced he'll never sleep longer than a 4 hour stretch ever.

sophiegrace Ugh. I'm sorry she's not feeling well and you're feeling guilty. I get not wanting to sound like a bitch or crazy overprotective mommy. I feel like that too when the other moms in my club ask to hold Lilah. It's one thing to hand her off if Lillian needs me, but I mostly try to keep her to myself. The reality is, we can't protect them from every germ. Obviously working in a medical office will make you more nervous, but these germs are everywhere. We all got this cold from one of DH's coworkers who caught it from her 3 year old who got it from daycare. I have a daycare cold and neither of my kids is in daycare. It's not your fault.
It was. This is the single biggest reason I asked for more than 12 weeks of leave this time. Because back then I had an absolute joke of a government job and still couldn't function at work. I can't possibly imagine doing what I do now on 2 hours sleep per night.
I had a fun night watching Jeopardy with DH (we have approximately 1000 episodes on DVR) and I managed to finish an entire bottle of cab on my own. Off to bed now and praying that my daughter does not choose a 2 a.m. wakeup time again like she did last night.
I hope she feels better sophiegrace, hopefully Tylenol can bring it down. It's totally not your fault, it happens.
And I'm totally not being snarky, serious question, you said the fever was 100.2 which to celsius is 37.889. I was told that a fever isnt a fever until it's 38 but even then a dose of Tylenol will usually bring it down and there isnt a real worry until it is closer to 40 (104F). Was I told wrong? Are the standards different?
Nope, you're correct. 100.2 is considered low-grade and worth just watching and giving Tylenol for. Unfortunately, she's going up past 101 now. We have a few more hours to see if it breaks and try to convince her to nurse more or it's off to the hospital
