DH and I have a short list of boy names, one of the names is John (Jack) Elliot, however our last name starts with a W so you get the initials JEW. I can't decide if that's a deal breaker. I know traditional monograms will be JWE so even that wouldn't be a problem. So what do you think? Are the initials enough to take this name off our short list?
I wouldn't use it (unless you happen to be Jewish and like it). My initials have been used in the FN MN LN order a bunch. I wouldn't want them spelling a descriptor I didn't identify with.
I'm on the fence. On the one hand, it's a nice name and how often do you use initials, really. Plus, it's not like JEW is offensive, like if they were ASS or FUK. On the other hand, as PPs have said, I probably would steer clear of it unless you were Jewish and happen to be okay with the initials.
I tend to be fine with initials, as long as they don't spell a curse word. In this case, I would look elsewhere since Jew refers to a specific group, but if it's the only name you love I don't think it's a big deal.
Many people jump to teasing when it comes to initials, but I don't think that would be a problem with this one. "Your initials spell Jew, but you aren't one" doesn't really work.
I'd scrap it, but I am a self proclaimed monogram junkie. I know it doesn't impact the way a traditional monogram is done, but things where he needs to sign his initials, ehhhh. Just think of 50 pages of mortgage docs with JEW...
