This ended up being long so congrats if you finish.
So due date was 2-15 and I had my midwife appointment that morning. I was having period like cramps, a lot of mucous discharge, and driving there was painful to sit so I asked for a cervical check and sweep. I was 2cm and she said she was able to feel and release a good pocket of fluid and to stay upright for at least an hour.
I went and picked up the kids from my MIL and went home to do laundry and clean the house. Cramping intensified to the point that I needed to take a bath to relax. I noticed a huge chunk of mucous with bloody show before getting in the tub. I messaged DH after getting out around 1:30 to tell him I thought things were working and he chose to come home early.
Started cleaning again. More mucous with bloody show around 4 so I took a nap in case things went late into the night. Woke up to a real contraction just before 6 so I got up and ate a big supper to prep and started trying to time things but they were really irregular. Anywhere from 5-20 mins apart and not lasting long.
At 7 I put the girls to bed and told DD1 that MIL might be there in the morning if I had to go have the baby. Then DH and I started timing again and they were 15mins apart constant for an hour so we called MIL who came over for 8:30. Between then and 9:30 my contractions jumped from 15 to 12 to 8 to 6 minutes quickly. So we called the midwife and headed to the hospital to avoid almost giving birth in the car like with DD2.
At the hospital by 9:50 where she checked me and I was 8cm and thin. DH and I hung out in the labor room mostly alone. The MW came and checked babies HR periodically. Things seemed to go slow but that was just my impatience talking. By midnight my contractions were pretty intense and close together, 12:15 my water broke and DH called the MW back in. She asked what position I wanted to get in but standing, squeezing DH hands and pushing down was the only way I was happy. So we raised the bed as much as possible so he and I could stand on each side and hold hands over the bed and that way I was still supported and standing.
I was cleared to push so I did. First push I pooped myself. Not my finest moment and the only birth it happened for. Oh well. 2 pushes later his head was out. I paused to get down on my knees because my legs were shaking. 2 more pushes and he was out at 12:28! DH came around the bed to see baby and tell me he was a boy! They let me pick him up off the floor and we did skin to skin. DH cut the cord after it stopped pulsing. The midwife commented how huge the cord and placenta were. Only a 1st degree tear too so that was a nice surprise.
She weighed him and he was 10lbs 14oz. I couldn't believe I just had a nearly 11lb baby. He's 24 inches long. DD2 is 29!! He's huge. So then we had to stay 12 hours to get 4 consecutive good blood sugar readings which were all fine. Given the time of night we were planning on staying anyway so it was nbd. His only issue so far is eating. Given his size he is so lazy at the boob. I expressed colostrum and syringe fed him tonight. DD1 was the same way and after a week was on track so I'm confident we'll get past this with the midwife coming to the house to help.
Name is Re.id Clay.ton, after my paternal grandfather. Our last baby!! DD1 is baby obsessed. DD2 is handling it better than I expected which is mostly indifference. We're so in love with this little man.
