MH wants to order a vacuum cleaner today. I know nothing about vacuum cleaners. Tell me what to buy so he doesn't buy something dumb.
For reference, we have a Shark now, he wants to get a Dyson but he doesn't know what one to get. I'm not married to buying a Dyson, so if there's something better, holler at your girl.
I loved our Dyson, the animal one. H decided to buy a new one and got a different brand. I do not like it as much. I will go back to Dyson when we get another one.
ETA: just saw your last post. The one H just got has a feature that you can adjust from carpet to hard surfaces. It's very easy and has 4 settings. I'll try to look at the brand tonight and post an update.
Electrolux canister vac. I've had one for 15 years now and want to marry it.
Eta: it was fabulous on mostly hardwoods and transitions well to carpet and back again. In the 15 years, I replaced the motor head because a wheel cracked off but I'm so happy I did that bs buying a new vac.
My model isn't sold anymore but it was about $300 or $400 and is easy to carry and maneuver. I love having the canister and hose for vacuuming floors and baseboards and stairs.

I have the dyson animal ball one and I've been really happy with it. It's probably about 8 years old now. It's very easy to use and I've been rough with it and it holds up.
I have the shock rocket deluxe and I am in love with it. It's amazing on hardwood floors and great on pet hair. It's also small so it can go under a lot of furniture.

We have this Miele, it's great. I read a massive vacuum recommendation thread on Reddit and a vacuum repair guy said to avoid Dysons and go with Miele, so I did.
Yeah the dyson v6 animal cordless, so lightweight and powerful. I can't imagine ever dragging a cord or canister style again. We have hardwoods throughout and area rugs
The cord on the Miele is quite long. I can plug it in the middle of my long wall and reach my 450sq ft living space. I love the foot controls and the cord retract feature. The pieces snap together very easily are easily adjusted to your height.
I have hardwood throughout and tile in my kitchen so I got tired of sweeping all the time and still having dirt particles left behind. It's light weight and works great. No complaints.
We bought a Dyson animal version about 6-7 years ago on a Black Friday sale. It's still going strong. We have mixed hard wood and carpet and 2 large (low shedding) dogs. It is heavy but otherwise has always worked well. The canister is full every time I use it.
disclaimer we have had a cleaning lady the past year who brings her own vacuum so it's had more limited use the past year
We have an All Floors Dyson. It's going on 8 years old so I'm sure the newer models might be fancier but we only had to get it repaired once and it was still under the 5 year warranty when that happened. That was the only issue we've had so far.
I had a Dyson Animal but it was horrible for the stairs. So heavy and annoying. I have a shark rotator lift away and it transforms into so many different vacuums! The first time my dad saw it he asked if it was a rocket ship. I definitely recommend
I vote Miele. I've had two Dysons and they work well, but I recently read an AMA on Reddit with a vacuum repair guy and he said canister vacuums are best for the ultimate suction, and recommends Miele. For upright bagless, Dyson is one of the top ones so it's not a bad choice. But I just want something that gets all the damn dog hair! I'll probably replace my fairly new Dyson with a Miele sooner rather than later. I will probably try the basic Classic C1. Admittedly I am not looking forward to a canister vacuum, since reminds me of my childhood lugging around the water filtration Rainbow vacuum. It was a pain, but if the suction is better than my Dyson, I'm sold.
