We have Mikasa everyday settings...and I do like them. BUT we bought a white Corelle set 2 years ago from Target and I LOVE those things. They have a slight raised embellishment that makes them feel a little nicer. Kids can't break them, they wash super well, and so lightweight!
Corelle from Target? Or Corelle style, but Target brand?
all white, for the reasons pobre listed. I have a hand me down white set from MIL that I just added in additional bowls and serving dishes. I will be replacing them with another all white set
My full set is Pottery Barn. It's a bit heavy but I like it, it's pretty plain and I have serving pieces in the same style but colors. I also have a bunch of Correlle. Much lighter and fairly indestructible. It does break, but it can take quite a beating. It's from a Corelle store. I get coupons via email all the time.
We have all white porcelain- they're made in France and don't chip, plus they're easy to clean- it's like food doesn't stick to them. I like how I can mix and match styles and add more later if I want without worrying about if something has been discontinued. We have a mix of apilco and pillivuyt. Williams Sonoma often does a 20% off French porcelain which is a good deal.
I have $1 plates I bought at a local grocery store so no help in the brand but just wanted to say I like open stock too because you can buy what you need versus the constraints of sets.
