DS never liked being swaddled so he was always in footed jammies to keep warm. But once it was time to start sleeping longer, we did use merlin and it was great. Had to stop so he could eat hands. MY nephew needed swaddle big time and he when he broke out, they started merlin and still use it. He is 6 months now and STTN for 12 flipping hours!!! (Sigh. So jealous)
DD is a little over 4 months old and up until recently she's been swaddled with a Halo swaddle sleep sack. For the past week or so we've been swaddling one arm out and last night, we wrapped the swaddle around her waist and left both arms out. She did just fine. (She's in the crib)
We tried the Merlin Sleep Suit a few weeks back and it was great for one night then next night sucked so I sent it back. Nothing has worked as well as the Halo Swaddle Sleep Sack. She is obsessed with eating her hands and letting her arms fly all over the place but she's been doing ok with the transition so far.

With our first son we stopped around four months. We were using a Halo Sleep Swaddle Sack and similar to nicb13, we did a couple of nights with one arm out, then the other arm and finally just wrapped around the body. Once he was too big for that he slept in a regular sleep sack till he was ready for a blanket.
He did a good job with the transition and I hope our new little one will do just as well. He is three months now and still sleeps swaddled in the rock and play. I am thinking about getting him into the bassinet that is also taking up space in our room soon then eventually into his crib. Is anyone else still using a rock and play? He sleeps so good in it i'm nervous about messing with it.

DD never really dug the swaddle. When she moved to her crib at 6 weeks, she usually wiggled out of it. By about 8 or 9 weeks, we gave up on the swaddle. She sleeps in fleece footies.

We used the RnP until about 3 weeks ago - so DD was 3.5 months old, almost 4 months. She STTN starting at 6 weeks old (10-12 hours a night) in the RnP so I didn't want to change anything either but she has torticollis so we needed to get her out of the RnP where her head movement was restricted and into her crib. She actually has done GREAT in the crib and is now sleeping unswaddled in there.

Thanks so much nicb13, it is nice to hear that your transition went so well, gives me hope! Looks like in the next couple of weeks I should get him out of the RnP and into the bassinet. It would be nice to have one less baby sleeping space taking up room in our bedroom too.

We transitioned out of the swaddleme and into the Merlin at 3 months. The Merlin worked wonderfully for a month during which I think it helped DD figure out how to go to sleep drowsy but awake. Our pedi recommended ditching the Merlin at our 4 month so V could roll at night if she wanted. We put her in a sleep sack and had a few not so great nights then she went back to her normal Merlin sleep habits and a week after dripping the Merlin started rolling successfully.

My LO will be 3 months on Saturday and we're still swaddling her for overnights. I don't swaddle her for naps since the swaddle didn't seem to help her nap any longer than her usual 40 minutes unswaddled. We use the Woombie which I love. I have a transitional Woombie which we'll start using soon and let her have one arm out and see how that goes. She's been STTN for a couple weeks now so I'm scared to rock the boat but it's time to start transitioning her. We're moving her over to her crib once she hits 3 months so we'll do that first and then work on getting rid of the swaddle.

We transitioned out of the swaddle around 3.5 months. At that time she wasn't sleeping in or out of the swaddle. So we just figured we'd get rid of it. Once she got over that leap/growth spurt she was used to be put down without the swaddle and is sleeping pretty decently now out of the swaddle.
I am so behind in the times (oldest is 10 yrs old and just had lil girl in Dec. so sometimes people mention the new "thing" and I am like huh?).. going to google a merlin....
Anyway we swaddled about a month / month and half and she did not like having her arms restricted. I do footed pj's or a sleep sack.
dd is 3 months and still swaddling. want to wean her but so scared she's gonna stop sleeping 12 hours at night. since this fri we will be out late i may try next fri starting w/ one arm out. we were really scared for my ds to stop swaddling but he surprised us by continuing to sleep well without it. hoping the same holds true for her.

vavavictoria Did you ditch the Merlin for naps and bedtime all at once? My DS is almost 5 months and still in the Merlin and I would really like to transition him out soon if possible. I'm not sure how to go about it though.
We went cold turkey. No naps or bedtime. Momnesia is making it hard for me to remember exactly how bad it was 3 months ago when we did it but if it was bad it was only for a few days.
With DS1, we switched from swaddling to the sleep sack around 3 months. I still wonder if the 4MW would have been less painful if we had kept him swaddled an extra month or so, but we had a lot of bad habits that probably worked together to make that so hellish.
DS2 is currently in a wrapsack for most naps and bedtime. I plan to start leaving 1 arm out during naptime around 12 weeks (he'll be 8 weeks in 2 days), so perhaps he'll be out of it entirely by the time he starts daycare around 15 weeks. They don't swaddle there, so I want him somewhat prepared. I'd keep him in his wrapsack at night until he's 16 if I could.
