Most of the ones I see involve final expenses. There is a girl I went to high school with and she lost two sisters within the same year. That's terrible and I felt horrible for her. She set up a gofundme account both times to pay for funeral expenses and burial expenses because neither of them had life insurance. Most of the ones I see involve not having life insurane. It drives DH crazy because he sells life insurance and he tries to make people understand how important it is that you don't leave your family struggling to pay for your funeral. So many people won't buy it and then a gofundme account is created to cover the cost.
I totally get unexpected medical expenses, or medical expenses that exceed insurance coverage, but it is starting to seem like some people forego things like life insurance because falling back on a gofundme seems like a real alternative.
I can't get it up to judge people who can't afford to bury their loved ones.
I'm not judging them and I apologize if it came off like I do. I meant the GFM seems like a real alternative for those left behind because there isn't any other way to cover it. I didn't express that well. It's a terrible situation to be in and it is most of the GFM that I see. I don't think it's a conscious "Oh. They can just do a GFM." It did sound like that, but that's not what I meant. It's likely more just not understanding how much it will cost or what a burden it will be. Totally unrelated to the GFM, it is a reality that many, many people do not buy life insurance because they don't want to talk about it or think about it or because they feel it's not necessary. That is a daily reality and it's sad because it is such an important part of life planning.
