He read Dr. Fuhrman's Eat for Life book shortly after his heart attack in November and he expressed some hostility towards the plan at first, I honestly think mostly just to spite me, BUT he decided to go with it and see where the diet took him.
He's off of his cholesterol meds completely and has cut his BP meds by 75%. He's eating only about 12 ounces of meat a week and he says he feels like he has so much more energy.
I'm really proud of him. It's hard for people to make healthy changes but he has done such a great job so far.
I'm always amazed that some of your kids stay in bed. Amazed! Remember the nightly furniture moving when C was newly two?! Oh memories.
I think the same! Though my C wasn't quite on par with yours moving furnature at 2, he's pretty wild when it comes to being alone in his room. So. Much. Toddler proofing.

C asked if I could pack oreos in his lunch like Eric has or teddy grahms like Jacob gets. Apparently his sandwich, meatballs, fruit, veggies, cheese, yogurt, ect lunch is pretty lame... I am now having mom guilt that his lunch sucks! I had no clue people sent cookies! Sometimes I send a pouch, nutragrain bar or goldfish thinking I was being a fun mom...
I was supposed to see a movie tonight with a friend, but she just cancelled. She had to pick her son up sick from school. Booooo!
What were you going to see? Will you go out alone?
We were supposed to see Lion. I'll go ahead and stay in tonight. She bought the tickets so I didn't have one in my possession otherwise I would have gone alone. We'll go next weekend to see Before I Fall, so it's not a big deal if we miss tonight.

I also wouldn't have thought people would send a lot of cookies, etc. I remember getting an email both years that B has been in preschool reminding parents to send healthy lunches.
I've only sent 'dessert' (like a cookie or similar) twice this year and both times it was still in his lunchbox when I unpacked it. I'm not sure if that's the teachers' doing or what. Normally I send the same stuff you do--his morning snack will be goldfish, granola bar or similar.

Right, LizInFL!? I just figured everyone was sending healthier stuff. I may start sending him a treat every so often. Probably not anything crazy, but a couple teddy grahams or something will make him happy!
We got back from going out for pizza a little while ago. There's an antique (reproduction?) fire truck in the restaurant that they let kids climb all over. B was in a little pack of kids and they had the best time. He passed out in the car and went straight to bed when we got home. We're going to watch a movie and get ready for our big thrilling weekend of...house projects!

So, I told you guys dh took the day off and we were going to go do the pinspiration workshop he got me for vday? Well, obviously with three kids and no family around we had to do some juggling and planning but managed to get everything in place and headed out to the workshop. We literally were walking in the door when Lucas's school called.... fever and we had to go get him. 🙄 I swear, luck is not on my side lately. Dh went to get him and I did I majority of the craft myself. It was fine, they served drinks so I had a few beers and dh made it back to help me finish, but it kind of killed the "date" vibe.
The crafting was cool though, although I could totally do this myself after seeing how it's done and not spend near as much money. Here's the final product:
JoeLies S wasn't saying much but the afternoon she got her tubes she started chattering and has been since. I'm sure the tubes will be a big help with his speech.
wineallthetime I don't send H with food anywhere but I know I wouldn't send a cookie. She doesn't get them at home after lunch, let alone with any regularity.
So I decided to have a relaxing day instead of party prepping. I relaxed all morning, took a nice long bath and then this afternoon H and I went to see Moana. She acted terrible during the movie, so it wasn't a great experience. I don't think there was enough excitement in the beginning to catch and keep her interest. After the movie we walked across the hall to the arcade. I only bought $1 worth of tokens but H managed to win 108 tickets. I just got candy as her prize because I didn't want any of that cheap trinkety crap at my house. I'm having all the feels because tomorrow is my baby's last day of babyhood. Where has time gone??

I got a request for gummy fruits like his friend Savannah in Pre-K. Who knew? I send him those or a fruit leather on Fridays as a treat with a note about how he's been a good listener (or whatever he did well that week) and something about our weekend plans.
Right, LizInFL!? I just figured everyone was sending healthier stuff. I may start sending him a treat every so often. Probably not anything crazy, but a couple teddy grahams or something will make him happy!
Maybe it's just at our school, but I feel like I send pretty average stuff and the teachers are always raving about how I pack the healthiest lunches.
They really aren't: some combination of BOCA nuggets, cheese stick, Bologna, olives, peas, tomatoes, carrots, cucumber, various fruits, pretzels, grahams, cheese-its, yogurt, dry cereal, pancakes, tater tots, Mac and cheese, pizza, green beans, fried rice, chicken noodle soup, applesauce or some pouch.
Vegan versions obviously, but how can this be that much different than what everyone else sends?

You probably pack a lot more veggies/fruit than anyone else.

Cadence has requested her lunch to be packed, but it isn't allowed without a Drs note stating specific dietary concerns at our school. Apparently, a couple of kids in her class bring their lunchboxes and she wants to as well.

It's usually just two types of veggies and a big container of fruit?
I don't know what everyone else brings though, so aside from what Atticus tells me I'm just guessing. I do see most of his friends having fruit for breakfast, so maybe they don't get more of it for lunch.
Our school does offer lunch we can purchase and a lot of it is vegetarian, but pretty much everything has dairy so it's not an option in our case.

I tried asking him what other people have in their lunch, but he was pretty focused on the oreos haha.
cagoldi - Based on what I see some kids eating for breakfast, I think there's probably a lot of convenience food. Lunchables, that sort of thing. We've been lucky because Colin will eat anything, but I've seen the lengths some of his friends' parents go to, to make them eat.
Cs lunch is a peanut butter sandwich, fruit, a low sugar applesauce, and either nilla wafers or pirates booty. If I pack anything else he won't eat. I fee like it is slightly on the less healthy side but whatever.
klongoria11 Cs old daycare served lunch but he wanted a lunch box so bad. I got him one and packed some water and goldfish in it. He got over the novelty after a couple of weeks and it sat at home.
Hmmm, maybe I'll do that. She already has a lunchbox, for days they have picnics and we provide their lunch.
I was tired of preparing food she wouldn't eat. She used to eat the vegetables I'd send but that stopped about a year ago. She'll still eat the fruit though.
Yeah DH loves to judge other parents at daycare over shit like that. We got LUCKY with Colin and guess what? Chase is turning out to be FAR pickier.

I constantly tell mh to stop judging other kids based on how Sam acts. We got lucky with S in so many ways and he's never been around other kids so he has nothing to compare him to. Now that sams been acting up more I actually just had this convo with him this morning.
I would send Lunchables once in awhile if they were compliant.
Sunny41 our DC provides morning and afternoon snack also. I think he usually has everything except oatmeal. He always tries it though, so I'm happy with that.
I'm so jealous reading what your kids eat. I don't think we'll ever get ds to eat.
Just because I pack it, doesn't mean he'll always eat everything by any means.
I don't let throwing food away bother me anymore, so I offer things he only picks at sometimes. He might only eat two or three pieces of broccoli or cucumber.
I know you gave the list before, but I forget if he'll eat pasta? I found I can add a lot to marinara that Atticus would never touch otherwise: lentils, hummus, hemp hearts.
I think you're being too hard on yourself nam2013. I can't actually remember when C ate a vegetable last that wasn't hidden. From what you wrote even if it's the same thing over and over, he is getting enough nutrients. I do give C a multivitamin just in case.
Agreed.
And we totally have days sometimes where he eats less fruit and veg than I'd prefer, so I give him a couple pouches.
I don't care. He can eat pouches his whole life as far as I'm concerned. I mean, he won't, but if they get a serving or an extra serving of produce thanks to a pouch? What's wrong with that?
If my choice is no fruit/veg or too few fruit/veg versus pouches, I'm giving pouches.
