As you might know, I had a false labor incident Friday because I was having painful contractions--but apparently they weren't regular enough and I was only dilated 1.5cm, so when the contractions died down and became more irregular, they sent me home, though they did say they wouldn't be surprised if they saw me again over the weekend. So....
Saturday morning rolls up. MH has been entertaining the toddler and letting me sleep in because he's the real MVP lol. I woke up to a VERY painful contraction about 8 am. I then proceeded to have 3 more strong painful contractions in the following 15 minutes, spacing between 2-5 minutes? I was like, "better start officially timing them because I don't want another false labor situation.....but goddamn these are wayyyy more painful than yesterday..."
I enter the living room where DS and H are playing. I have 2 more SIGNIFICANT contractions. My contraction timing app pops up a notification that says something along the lines of "GO TO THE HOSPITAL!" Lol.
"My app says go to the hospital," I casually tell MH like it's all nbd.
"Okay well let's wait until it's been an hour so we know it's for real," he says. That's reasonable since we both don't want the hassle of the 45min drive to hospital, plus having to get DS to his babysitter AGAIN after the trip yesterday. It is 8:35 at this point.
My water breaks at approximately 8:40 during another contraction.
Everything then escalated to like a level 11 at that point. H gets DS ready to go while I kneel on all fours groaning into the carpet. Omg the agony. We get DS to the babysitter and to the hospital. The car ride was torture. I started feeling the urge to push in the car which was terrifying because I didn't want a car baby.
MH gets a wheelchair for me to wheel me up to the hospital because I really can't walk anymore. During a contraction, while they signed me in and such, I broke off one of the foot rests because I was pushing off from it to hard because I just felt like I had to push! Oops.
We get into the maternity ward. It's about 9:45-10ish? I attempt to pee in a cup for them but it's futile. Contractions errywhere. They see my pants and underwear all destroyed with fluid and blood and apparently suspected meconium, and they immediately admit me. They set me up in a room and check my cervix.
COMPLETELY DILATED. And it's been a little over an hour since my water broke??
"Yep, she's complete" were the nurses exact words. "Did you want an epidural because if not, we can start pushing now."
Yes please epidural. So they call the epi person who says that she can't promise it will take effect by the time baby is born, which I fully believe because I am already involuntarily pushing. I did not want to be unmedicated for this and the subsequent stitching that was sure to ensue.
I get the epidural and my quality of life improves drastically. Lol. I managed to NOT push out the baby within the next 10 mins, and I get a minute to rest. I napped from about 11-1ish, at which point I am beginning to regain some sensation of contraction on my left side. They give me another hit of epi and start gathering the troops of people needed. I started pushing around 1:30ish?
Baby was born at 1:45.
Everyone had been so excited about my team green and all the nurses and my OB and MH yelled out "it's a girl!!" as soon as she fully emerged. It was so awesome
They had to suction her throats because of the meconium but she otherwise had no issues.
So it was a 5 hour labor with 15ish minutes of pushing. And if I hadn't needed the epi it would have been like 3 hours. Damn. Let's contrast this with my 17 hour first birth where I pushed for 5 hours. LOL.
Team green turned pink.
**details poofed. As feisty as she has been on the inside, I'm not totally surprised that this is what her labor ended up as. Lol
She is so cute
TLDR: water broke and 5 hours later I had a baby. It was a girl! ❤❤❤
