Help Red and Blue go on Vacation

So I think I have mentioned before, but this year both my DH and I turn 40.  My original plan was to go on a trip with my girlfriends (all turning 40 this year) in the fall, but I have been second guessing this for a while.  I have taken on two part time gigs to make the money, but feel horrible that I am planning a trip with my girlfriends to celebrate, when DH also turns 40 (2 weeks after me) and we have no plans to do something together.  I also cannot afford to go away with my girls and DH.  So I'm going to be the lame-o in my group and back away from the girls trip, in favour of a trip for DH and I.

I have rarely traveled.  DH and I went to Mexico, Maya Rivera, for our honeymoon and stayed at an amazing (but huge) resort.  I do not have a clue what to look for or how to go about planning an all inclusive vacation.  Please help with your wisdom and experience. 

We are thinking probably early September or maybe October.  I need to find out if I am going to be teaching this course that I am writing in the fall.  I believe the plan will be for it to start in mid-September, so I need to figure some of those logistics out. 

I have not 'totally' ruled out taking DS1 or DS2, but pretty much ruled that out.  I was contemplating asking my Mom and her partner to consider a family trip, with the kids, so that we might be able to have a little alone time, but probably will end up asking the grandparents to share babysitting duties if we are able to go away.

Go to cheapcaribbean.com. you can sort for AI, adults only. They have great deals often and you can pay in 2 installments only for an extra $29 which is worth it imo.

Applevacations.com is awesome. I highly recommend them. My aunt is a travel agent, a really good one, on Nat Geo's list of top in the nation, and that's who she recommended to me. They pick you up at the airport, shuttle you around, have reps at the resorts to book excursions for you, etc. We had an awesome experience with them a few years ago when we went to Jamaica.

If your parents are anything like mine, leave DS1 and DS2 with them rather than doing a family vacay. I love my parents, but I've tried the family vacay with them twice, thinking that they would pitch in and babysit, and give MH and I some alone time. Totally didn't happen. They wanted to go out, or they wanted to nap! Go with your gut and guarantee that alone time.

As far as places, tell us more about what you're thinking!

I've only been to Jamaica but we loved Couples Swept Away- it's in Negril.

This is where I am usually at.  But also don't want to be a burden to anyone to take the kids for a week.  Feeling it would be mainly a last resort.

Okay so I'm think along the lines of balance between doing NOTHING, (maybe read a book and not clean up a thing), but also will need to have some things to experience. Food would be good, but not the top priority per say. DH is a pretty picky eater, so anything too fancy is wasted on him. But also not boiled hot dogs (like he did at the resort in mexico on our honeymoon, and ended up with food poisoning for 24 hours....I did get some alone time by the pool for a day! lol).

We would love to have the opportunity for some site seeing, and excursion adventures.

Cost will play a role, so can't go 'skies the limit' or anything, but we definitely need the time away.

I spoke to my Mom this morning to see what the possibility would be for her to watch the kids for a week, and I'm sure we could work something out.

The Punta cana trip we just booked, for 2 people, was right at $1800 for 5 days 4 nights... jus sayin

We ended up doing May. The price was a lot cheaper for May. All you need to do is get a sitter for the kids. The rest of the planning is the fun part!!

@betweenthelines, my sister did a Punta Cana trip last year. She loved it!

Check out Riu.com they have resorts all over the place and the majority are all inclusive- kids are generally free if you end up with the kiddos and they have child care/kids camp
