My kid does like a lot of typical 5 year old stuff but lately she is fascinated with surgery/ medical equipment.
She talks about it all of the time. In the last few months I have purchased for her: X-rays (fake ones that look like they are used for teaching purposes), a surgeons costume complete with a face mask/ shoe covers, kid sized latex gloves and a "real" stethoscope (the doc mcstuffins one was "not real")
Yesterday when I picked her up from my moms house she was watching "real stories from the ER" with my mom on the couch. Apparently they were flipping through the channels and my kid made her stop there. They watched a re-enactment of a surgery on a severed hand. The kid didn't even flinch.
I'm indulging her interest because frankly it's a nice change from all of the princess and Barbie crap, and she genuinely seems to like to pretend to be a doctor / surgeon.
So this is half joking, half serious, but is my kid the only one that likes weird/ slightly morbid things? Should I start saving for med school ? Or therapy?
Ahh, five year olds! I think that's awesome that she's so into medical stuff!, even if it's just play!
My DD is a pretty unique kid in general, but I can't think of anything weird that she's into, just that her interests change all the time. For awhile she was really into my boobs, which was odd because she wasn't breastfed, but she's over it now (at least, I HOPE she is). Now she's just into boys.
Doc Mcstuffins is a big hit here as well. We're still in the phase where an x-ray machine should look exactly like Doc's, i.e. a light box. No need for the fancy stuff here yet. I think it's great that your girl is into something like that so much. Not sure how 'real' re-attaching a hand is to them at this point, so if you could call it morbid. GL saving (preferably for med school)
