I went into labor as soon as DH turned off the light to go to bed around 11:15 Friday night. I thought it was gas since we ordered out pizza but it was sharp pains every few minutes so I pulled out the app and started timing them and low and behold, they were every 3-5 minutes at that point. I waited for an hour to make sure it was legit then called my OB, who told me to get to the hospital.
We arrive at the hospital and I am 4 cm dilated. I got my epidural around 3 am and let me tell you, after dealing with tons of needles with IVF, the epidural going in didn’t hurt at all, the worst was a contraction in the middle of it. I fnally got some relief and dozed off and on until 6:30ish. They came in to check me and to break my water and apparently at some point it broke. There was no trickle, no gush, nothing. We were all surprised by that then realized I was fully dilated and waited to start pushing after the epidural wore off a little bit since I wasn’t feeling any contractions at that point.
I start pushing at 7:40 and after 2 hours, we weren’t getting anywhere. We were minutes away from deciding whether to use vacuum assist or go for a c-section when my OB gets pulled away for an emergency c-section and told me that she will be back as soon as possible. I took a little bit of a break from pushing and started Pitocin to hopefully get things going. That’s when things finally started moving and within ½ hour of the OB returning, he was born at 11:21am on 2/25/17 weighing 7lb 4 oz and 20.25 inches long.
He is absolutely perfect. I’m still in a bit of shellshock that he is mine, it’s very surreal at this point even when he wakes me in the middle of the night.
