Is anyone else in Zika zones?? I'm in super South Florida and we've pretty much had the Zika thing under control but the news says there's 3 new cases in our area. Great....

Cythe they've been local. They city was spraying and giving fines if people weren't getting rid of any standing water and things like that but they haven't done that in months.

I'm in coastal South Carolina, so I feel it's a matter of time.
I also traveled to the Caribbean in late Jan/early Feb. I mentioned earlier this week that I'm getting blood work done to make sure I didn't catch it (though I didn't see any mosquitoes).
I'll be extra diligent about bug spray; not only for me, but DS has strong reactions to the bites.
I need to do better about avoiding mosquitoes in general this year. They LOVE me, and I'm allergic to their bites. I get huge nickel sized bites, and that's not fun at all.

I wonder if there is a time frame in the pregnancy where the Zika virus does not harm the baby? Like after a certain developmental period. Something to ask the doctor/Web MD.

I was wondering this as well. It seems like it would probably be worse early on because of the rapid development of the brain, but who knows.

I'm like this and my poor kids inherited it from me. 👎🏼
To make it worse something about our body chemistry makes us friggin delicious to mosquitoes so it's a bad situation.

Certain blood types are apparently more attractive to mosquitos. I'm O, and apparently that's one of them.
Really? This fascinates me. MrRama and I have the same blood type (O+) and his sister is different (A+?), but every time we're all together outside during mosquito season, they get eaten and I get ignored. I've always wondered why that is.

Yeah I'm A+ and H is O-, the stupid bugs ignore him and just feast on me. He maybe gets 1 bug on him, and I have like 25 new bites.

As I said before I had to postpone the cruise we were taking, instead we are traveling from Boston to the Virginia . I feel much safer there! We have a couple other trips planned for this year but they are both in the Carolina's so I feel pretty safe about those areas too! Either way I'll be bathing in Mosquito repellant no matter what!

I think I'm pretty safe up here in MN, though we do have a sh!t ton of mosquitos in the summer, Zika shouldn't be an issue. I'm O- and bugs don't usually attack me too bad, maybe a few bites a year. I do go through a lot of bug spray though, so I'm sure that helps.

That's so bizarre. I'm also O- and I get carried away by them. Maybe mosquitoes in our area aren't too picky about blood type.

How do I not know my blood type? All of a sudden that seems very irresponsible.
Apparently my parents have thought I was a certain blood type my whole life (can't remember which type) but I'm actually O-. They were shocked to discover that.
I feel like that's something they should know, but I don't know my daughter's off the top of my head. So... lol I'm not sure what my point was. Thanks pregnancy brain.

Your doctor will run this for you, since it's important to know if you need the shot that I can never spell. If they've taken your blood, you can ask them when you see them.
I would for sure find out what it is, it's useful to know every once in a while.

It just gets worse! I have no idea what my kids blood types are. I think I'm going to call their dr tomorrow. I'm feeing very negligent or maybe very fortunate that I haven't been in a situation where I needed to know. Anyway, thank you for bringing that up!

I'm O- and get eaten alive. My husband is A+ and barely ever gets bit. Definitely interesting!
Well I must be off the charts on every other factor besides blood type! 😂 I'm A+ and if there are no mosquitoes around there will be once I come outside. My DH will say, hey come out is nice, no mosquitoes! I'll come out and get bitten 10 times in 5 minutes.

I am the same, haha. I'm A+ and H is B and I always get soo many bites and he gets a few (or none!)
Shit doesn't always just happen. L: arrived 5.23.13 at 34 weeks with gastroschisis. 131 days in the NICU; short bowel syndrome, g-tube, home TPN; 11 surgeries. Line-free since 12.28.16! Blog
I'm a mosquito magnet but also in the upper Midwest so I don't think local transmission will be a concern. But it always seems like we get West Nile outbreaks every year so I'll be sure to do repellent.
