With dd my water broke before I started having any real contractions. And when I did have contractions they were primarily back labor, so I feel like I'm not sure what normal contractions would feel like.
I've been having Braxton hix, strong enough that my OB calls them contractions on my NSTs, but probably only 5-6 per day, spaced out.
Yesterday I started having strong Braxton hix around 1:00, every 3-7 minutes. They continued and then around 5:00 they got stronger and were 3-5 min apart. They felt like period cramps and I could feel my uterus get very tight, so much that I had to breath through them a little. I also had a slight back ache, and pressure by my tailbone.
I called the nurse line and they had me go in. I was definitely having contractions, and stronger than I had during my NSTs, roughly every 5 min.
Since I'm only 36+4 today, they gave me fluids to see if that would stop them. It didn't. They checked me twice, two hours between, and no difference so they said it wasn't real labor. They wanted to give me terbutaline to stop them, but I refused because I didn't like the side effects. The painful contractions lasted until about 12:30 but then I slept well.
Today I've mostly had some strong Braxton hix, and maybe one or two actual painful contractions, but nothing regular like yesterday.
I didn't really think what I as feeling yesterday was real serious contractions, but the frequency and time period I had been having them for was unusual to me for Braxton hix. Also, they got stronger when I was up and moving, and still continued when I rested and had water.
