So I've done some reading around, but I want opinions from you ladies! What are the necessary items to have on hand at home once you get home from hospital?
My hospital gave us dermoplast (numbing spray) - basically the best thing ever. The peri bottle is super nice to have too. I actually preferred the giant hospital pads over whatever is available at the drugstore -they're bigger and I felt like I had better coverage that way. Colace - painkillers will constipate you and that first post-delivery 💩 Is scary. Or it was for me since I had an episiotomy with DD.
toadandbuggie - I'm an attorney. I'm in-house counsel for an insurance company. I freaking love my job! My husband is a legal administrator for a law firm. He runs three offices - New Orleans and Lafayette in LA and Jackson (MS).
So apparently my new favorite past time is now stalking bmb to read birth stories. That got me wondering how long were your previous labors s+tm? I know we've talked in passing about our stories.
DD was a 8.5 hour induction at 40 weeks. I started pitocin at 12:30 AM. Delivered at 9:04 am (episiotomy).
DS is a much crazier story. It was an hour start to finish. I started with contractions at 4:08 pm that were immediately 2 minutes apart. We didn't make it to the hospital (thank you rush hour traffic), and I delivered in the front passenger seat of my car at approx 5 pm. I was 37w5days

murran13 DS had the cord wrapped around his neck too when he came out. All I remember is the on call doc telling me to stop pushing as he took it off and then he came out. Honestly the birth became one big blur.

I have just a bit of jealousy for women who have babies so quickly they can't make it to the hospital! Obviously this isn't very smart on my part but being in labor for a day and a half isn't all that nice either.
I was induced at 38 weeks on the dot with DD because of hypertension and other complications. I ended up being in labor for 22 hours, but once I started to push, she was out in 20 mins! The whole process was pretty awful (horrible doctors and nurses). I'm looking forward to delivering in a new hospital this time.
My water broke in the middle of the night at 34w. When I got to the hospital, I wasn't dilated at all so they started cervadil to get things going. Once things started my contractions were pretty intense and one on top of another. After I got the epi (which was amazing), I was able to sleep for a couple hours. I got to a 10 pretty quickly and only pushed a few times and DS was here. Total time from water breaking to delivery was 8 hours.
I'm doing a lot better, thank you. Cramping has eased up a lot. I felt them throughout the night, so I didn't sleep very well. I'm going to take it easy today and see how it goes once the antibiotics have some more time to kick in. Looks like a day of cleaning my house and watching movies is in order!

My first was 11 hours into pitocin after I choose to be induced at 39+0. Baby was 8lb 5oz.
My second was 4.5 hours from first contraction to baby in my arms. I got to The hospital 40min before she was born.
I'm hoping for another fast labor so I can't choose an epidural. I am freaked out by them because of a bad reaction to my first and only one.

I also wanted to give my 2 cents for the ftm.... I have found I'm a huge fan of zipper jammies vs the button ones. The zipper is much easier during those motn changes.

I parked in the customers with small children spot at the grocery store today. I didn't have the toddler with me. The two babies inside of me count, right?

My water burst in a flood of the ages at 4 am on Christmas Eve. I was a little less than 37 weeks. We had to go to the hospital immediately due to risk of cord coming first. When the OB checked for that I almost passed out from pain. They gave me pure oxygen and it was wonderful. After a few hours of hanging out at 4 cm and not going into labour they offered pitocin. This would have been offered eventually anyway do to burst water clock.
So I ate some lunch and afterwards they started the pit. It took about 3 hours to go from 4 to transition phase. He was facing up so transition was the worst. I got some relief for about 30 minutes with IV fentanyl. It was glorious. Then it wore off and it was back to back labour pain. After an hour and a half of pushing my son was born at 5:43 pm the 24th.
Little dude was born a little too fast after the fentanyl so he had to get a bit of narcan. Let's just say they never told me his apgar score but he was back with me after about 30 minutes with the paediatrician.
Today is 24 weeks and viability for me! Where has the time gone?!?
Me too! I told DH last night that babies are born this early and survive and his eyes got really big and he said "you better not have that baby this week!" That was so not what I was saying...

I'm a huge fan of the gowns! I also love the swaddleme!! The combo use made MOTN changes a breeze!

Does anyone have a my breast friend? I'm wanting to get a new nursing pillow. The Boppy pillow I've had since ds was born has gone through 3 kids and I want a new one!
nola1017 it is good to "see" you around. I hope your lo gets better quickly.
Aw, thanks!! 😘🤗 Mardi Gras kicked my butt and I've been playing catchup ever since. But yes, I'm back and intend to participate so much you're all sick of my screen name. 😜
toadandbuggie - my hospital for DS was about 20 minutes away. But we hit rush hour traffic. There's also a huge 4th of July concert down here called Essence Fest. It makes traffic even worse, and of course that's when I went into labor. We switched to a closer doctor / hospital but I'm due 7/3 so I still have the festival traffic to worry about.
amyface813 - I think the same thing about short labors. An hour med-free? I know I can do it. 8+ hours though? Yikes!! I will say that labor with my son (med-free, car birth) was more manageable than my induction with my daughter. Pitocin is no joke and the contractions were unreal. I tried to go without an epidural during my induction and failed spectacularly. Of course, I probably would have gotten an epidural with my son if I had had the foresight to bring an anesthesiologist along. 😂

I went into labor at around 2 am with mild contractions. They were about 20 minutes apart for several hours so I decided I would go into work for a while. We were just on the tail end of a conference and I had a bunch of stuff I needed to wrap up.
I got home around 2 pm, things started picking up. We got to the hospital around 7:30 pm and I was 9 cm. I was at 10 cm an hour later. But, I felt no urge to push and my water hadn't broken. I finally let them break my water sometime in the night and they discovered that he was turned sideways. I got him turned the correct way and he was out in 10 minutes of pushing.
I wanted so badly to have a med-free birth with my daughter, but after being induced and 16 hours in, I gave in and got an epidural, which of course didn't work so I got two. I must have had a bad anesthesiologist also because getting the epi hurt like hell and took what get like forever. I felt like a failure for giving in. This time I'm going in with a much more open mind. I'd love to go med-free, but I'm also not going to let myself feel guilty if I do feel like I need one throughout the process.

So I was having a lot of back pain all day yesterday. Have you ever had menstrual cramps that wrap around to your back? Well it felt like just the back portion, but no abdominal cramps. I tried resting, heating pad, tylenol and nothing helped. I figured I should follow my own advice to MissSally, so I called the doctor and they told me to go to L&D to get checked out. Heartbeat was strong, cervix was closed, and no contractions. So all good things. Minor bacterial infection so they gave me antibiotics. So I'm just going to hang out today and try not to do much.

Gosh! Glad you went in. And crazy that nearly the same thing happened to both of us within a day.
