*possible TW I guess. Pretty graphic birth experience*
By complete and total surprise the twins decided to make an early arrival at 35 weeks and 3 days!
Thursday night DH and I were going to bed. I got all settled in my snoogle at 8:30 and suddenly thought I was going to poop my pants. I stood up quickly and said "oh crap I just massively peed myself". Except it was a very hollywood-esque flood of fluids that wouldn't stop. Of course we had no hospital bags packed so I sent DH running around the house grabbing things while I stood in the bathtub trying to figure out who we were supposed to call. I had never actually gotten around to having the actual logistics talk with my dr.
We arrived at the hospital at 9:30 and I was already 4cm. So we were whisked off to the birthing center. I had met with anesthesia the week prior to discuss a plan for me since I have a fused spine. The plan was they would try an epidural and if that didn't work then we would try a spinal for a c section. Awesome. But of course the anesthesiologist on call was a douche and said he didn't agree with the plan developed by the anesthesia department and he wouldnt even try an epidural or a spinal. He wanted me to go under general and have a c section. Oh no. So there I was having a med free twin birth not by choice.
Unfortunately I experienced only back and butt labor. Which was the worse thing ever because I couldn't even roll over with contractions or stand. I also puked during most of it just cuz I'm lucky I guess.
But my body took pity on me and by 4:30am we were whisked to the OR to start pushing. So pushing out a baby with no meds is not fun, but really not the most horrible thing ever.
Har.per Lo.we was born at 5:39am weighing 5lbs 5oz and 17.5 inches long. She is her daddy's look a like as completely expected from our ultrasound photos.
At that point I was over giving birth with no meds so I shoved Baby B out in 1 push. Eve.lyn Ma.e was born at 5:43 weighing 5lbs 3oz and 17 inches long. We've never seen a ultrasound of her face and turns out...she looks like her mommy!!
Babies were beautiful and perfect and I got to hold them both skin to skin immediately while the dr delivered my placentas. The second placenta wouldn't deliver so babies were pretty suddenly taken from me while the dr shoved her entire arm up my vagina. I didn't scream once giving birth but this is when literally bloody murder screaming started. It took her 4 tries to get the placenta out.
Once that was done I started severely hemorrhaging. At one point DH told me there were 22 drs and nurses in the OR. It took an hour of entire arms up my vagina and the most painful "massages" I've ever experienced to stop the bleeding. I literally had peoples handprints of blood all over my body by the end. I screamed so much that I still don't have a voice. So I got sent to the ICU and had 2 blood transfusions and didn't see my babies for the next 6 hours.
Babies on the other hand are doing so well that all they needed was to go to the nursery (not the nicu) to get warmed up and they had a few ounces of formula since we were separated for so long.
But now we are all together and everyone is doing great. They aren't nursing very well because of their early gestational age but thankfully my colostrum came in really well so we are hand expressing onto a spoon for them. Tomorrow I'll start pumping once I can stand to sit up a little longer.
Without further ado...
