Night 5 update: LO cried pretty hard with no bottle again tonight, but only for 3 minutes. I tried sitting in a chair and cuddling with him with some warm milk and a book but he just got off my lap and kept pointing to the door. So I just had to do the drop and run. It wasn't terrible but it's just such a bummer to go from this sweet, peaceful bedtime routine, to one where he screams himself to sleep. Which is why it's taken me so long to get here.
We don't use the bottle anymore, but we do give W milk after he brushes his teeth. It started as we would just bring his sippy upstairs, and he'd drink from it while we read/played a little, then jammies, brush teeth, one more book, bed. But a few weeks ago he started asking for milk after his final book. He pitches suck a tantrum if he doesn't get milk before bed, and it's occurred to me that it's counter-productive giving it to him after we brush his teeth, but then I figured, we're not really exactly brushing our teeth like rock stars at this age, so hopefully as he gets older/brushes better, this will be something we can just phase out eventually again. He doesn't get to keep the milk in bed, it comes downstairs after he has his "one last drink" right before bed, so at least there's that...
We have been off the bottle for a while and it was hard for about a week or so and then she realized she just wasn't getting it anymore. We were told by the ped and dentist that anything before bed, other than water, is bad for their teeth so we cut it out because I'm paranoid about good teeth.
