February 21st was a weird day. As you all know, I was sick every single day of my pregnancy (diagnosed with HG finally in 3rd tri). I ate the same (very bland) foods each day. On 2/21, I was starving though. So i invited my H to lunch at a CHINESE restaurant, cleaned my plate and didn't get sick.
I had tons of energy, and at 4 pm, I left work to fold the baby's clothes and put them away. The clothes had been on the bed in our spare bedroom for a couple of weeks, so this was strange.
At 8:30 pm, I was laying on the couch watching tv when I felt a gush of water. I said "I think my water broke," and ran to the bathroom, but I was pretty sure I was wrong until I got into the bathroom and there was a second gush. I called labor and delivery to let them know I was coming. I can tell they didn't think my water had actually broken.
Me: "I'm 35 weeks, and my water broke, so I'm headed in."
Nurse: "Anytime you think your water has broken, you should come in. At this point in your pregnancy, it's common to urinate without knowing it. Your discharge also increases and is watery."
I showered, my H packed my hospital bag. And we were off.
I arrived and was on my way to triage when a nurse noticed that my pants were soaking wet. (The gushes continued on the way to the hospital, the way in....a LOT of water...) They had me skip triage, and I was admitted straightaway.
As I was GBS positive, antibiotics were started right away. Pitocin was also started right away. The nurse said I was closed, but a doctor had previously said I was 1 cm, so I'm not sure.
By 5 am, I was 4 cm, 75 % effaced and that offered an epidural. I've decided I have really bad periods, bc this just felt like bad cramps to me. I asked for pain meds instead bc I was worried about not being able to use the bathroom. (OH- I was having light cramps at home before I came to the hospital and thought I was constipated. I'd taken milk of magnesia and officially had given myself the runs....) I had back labor though, and an hour later I asked for the epidural. I was pretty scared of this when I thought about it in advance, but I didn't feel the needle at all.
After that, I napped. Basically, until I was 10 cm. I did ask for a I was surprised when they told me to push. I pushed 3 times, over 6 minutes. Jos.lyn Cla.re was born at 4:19 pm on 2/22. 6 lbs. 5 oz, at 35 weeks and 4 days gestation.
