I have a friend who is also a researcher and she is super upset. These budget cuts proposals are so crazy.
I really do not think you'll see a lot of GOP support for some of these cuts. They may bitch about spending but I can't see them actually axing meals on wheels, PBS, or NIH stuff. Sending good thoughts your way because I cannot imagine how stressful it is to have this hanging over you.
A lot of NIH research is getting axed, or at least significantly postponed until thong either settle down or someone knows what's going on. We have several grants that we were told were awarded prior to administration change but the money still has not been released.
I am in a crappy mood and today is a day I wish I could walk in to my boss and quit on the spot. :/
Yep. My husband is a scientist and this freaks us out. He's lucky he has a good lab now that has good funding for the time being, but if we stayed in Kentucky much longer his projects would never get done, etc.

@ceci8876 oh, no. Is she sick? Teething? Just a clingy cling monster? I am sending you deeply caffeinated thoughts.
I was up late writing reports. Unfortunately she woke up and since my sister and niece had stayed over, the guest bed wasn't available for her and Daddy to retreat. Since I was in the bed, I became pillow and snack. After a while I just couldn't take it. I fell asleep on the couch around 4. Alarm went off at 5:45!

I forgot to update (I know y'all are deeply invested) but the easy fixes did not fix our washer so we're getting a new one delivered Sunday!!!! I could not be more excited. It's the Samsung one with a built-in sink.

MH and I are going to Orlando (without R) for a few days at the beginning of April. We wanted to hit up a park or two, but they are SO EXPENSIVE. We have annual passes to Disneyland, so no real need to go to Magic Kingdom.
I've always wanted to go to Epcot, but it's $119/person and what even is there to do there that is worth that much?
We are strongly considering Universal, particularly Harry Potter, but a) we have Universal/Harry Potter here and I can get an annual pass for less than the price of admission in Orlando and b) it seems I have to buy admission to 2 parks to see all of Harry Potter? But people say Universal is really cool? And considerably cooler than the one here in LA?
People who have been there, what should we do? It seems that if we don't go to a park, our only option is a bunch of chain restaurants.

yl I love Harry Potter land. I'm not sure about the one in LA, but the one in Orlando is incredible. I want to go back so badly. It's only been a year since the last time I was there. The 2 park pass is worth it IMO because you can ride the Hogwarts Express back and forth. Yeah, I love it there. I haven't been to work it since I was in highschool so I have no advice there.

yl yes, you need a park hopper to see all of Harry Potter at Universal.
Maybe just go to Disney Springs? Or if Pandora at Animal Kingdom is open then, I'd go there. Epcot is great but it will be filled with drink spring breakers and super crowded because of the flower festival (I think.) A lot of Hollywood studios is under construction so I wouldn't go there unless y'all are super into Star Wars. I had a GREAT time at AK - great rides and shows, less crowded than other parks, litany of good food and great drinks.
Thanks for this! I was wondering if AK would be something I would enjoy. But it looks like Pandora isn't open until May. Womp.
Dang, that Universal park hopper pass is almost $200 each just to walk in the door.

Thanks! I've been dying to go, it just hurts when we have the same thing here for considerably cheaper. I'm not usually so penny pinching when it comes to vacations, but apparently amusement park admission is my hill.
yl the park crowds this time of year are bad enough that I would pass unless you can go middle of the week. Especially since they really aren't that different from the CA parks and you go there all the time. I would probably walk around Disney springs and take in all the Disney stuff there and then spend a day relaxing or do something totally different like an airboat tour of the Everglades.
We really wanted to do this, but it seems like it's super far from Orlando?

yl Not sure if it interests you but I've gone to Discovery Cove years ago and enjoyed it. It's also only an hour away from cocoa beach and cape canaveral is over there too!
Someone seriously needs to chisel me off my couch.
DH just got emails about 4 new side jobs and DS1's tee ball schedule came out. How can they expect 3-4 year olds play anywhere from 6-7 (start times) and 2-3 times a week plus practice? I had no clue this was the expectation or we might have held off a year. I foresee cranky nights and mornings throughout the season.
yl universal Orlando is the best theme park I've been to but I've never been to! How often do you go to Orlando? If you'll be back there again soon I wouldn't stress. Otherwise I'd definitely pay the money and go because it's amazing and you'll only have the opportunity so many times.
I wouldn't pay for Disney personally. I love Disney but if it were just H and me we'd be throwing all our money at Harry Potter

The thing I don't understand about blinds is how do people in Parenting know this stuff? I don't follow the threads. I just see people post about it periodically in here and I'm confused about that piece.

There's a thread devoted to reposting them from another site.
I don't know if this was discussed earlier, so please forgive. Our governor sits in on the local public radio program monthly. Today he said that it was confirmed that the National Weather Service knew that the storm track had shifted and that the totals would be less than what was reported earlier. They decided not to report the changes. Supposedly because they "didn't want to confuse the public with changing numbers"! So we are that stupid now? Gov. Baker in usually super calm but he was so pissed about this. The national report is what the state use to decide on travel bans and public transit closures, school closures etc. Why shit on your credibility? With all the real fake news out, weather/climate folks need to tell the truth man!
yl - do you like roller coasters? I really enjoyed Universal. I didn't think it was $200 for both parks when we went, but I could be wrong - I thought it was $130 or something for a one day dual park. It was worth it though. Only the older HP section was open then, and I loved it. The Incredible Hulk is the best big coaster I've ever been on (but I'm also very weird about coasters - hate big drops, like loops).
I agree with @wafflesfriendswork that AK is a delight. Epcot is one of my favorite parks though. It's hard to even explain what I love so much about it since it's not exactly cutting edge. I love the rides like The Land boat ride and Figment and RIP Maelstrom. And I love drinking and eating around the World in the International Showcase and checking out all of the shops.
I'm not thrifty in this regard, but I can't imagine going to Orlando and choosing not going to Disney. I did it once in college because I tagged along on my father's business trip and didn't want to go to the Parks by myself and I regretted it, so I wouldn't do it again.
mnj05, welcome to baseball!! lol! Granted, our league doesn't start until 4 so my 4 year old is the 2nd youngest on the team (and turns 5 in May). It starts pretty intense, though, for sure. Both of my boys are in it this year. When the season starts (next weekend), we only have Sunday and, sometimes, Monday with no baseball. They love it, though :/
jnetx, that sucks so bad about the house! The people we negotiated with never submitted the official offer, so we're accepting the first one tomorrow. At least this part will be over, though. Are you going to find somewhere to rent? That's our first step; we actually may move next door, lol
It's seriously unbelievable. We both get into bed, say our goodnights and love yous. 2 seconds later DH is sound asleep and snoring, while I'm repeating over and over "I'm so tired I'm so tired" and it's an hour before I finally fall asleep.
