Am I being unreasonable?

DH's parents live nearby. We see them at least once a month, sometimes more.
My family lives about 5-7 hours away. We see them twice a year when we travel to them and may get a one-off visitor 1-2x/year.
FIL had planned a trip for March (we should have been leaving next week) to celebrate his 75th birthday, but it ended up being canceled. The location was.. near my family, but there wouldn't have been time to see my family. (This bothered me. If I'm driving that far, in the direction of my family, I want to see my family!). Anyways, like I said... trip canceled.
My mom's 70th is coming up. I suggested we go see her. Her birthday is a couple days after Easter. Traveling Easter weekend sounds like a fresh hell, and DH's parents got very upset when I made plans for Easter last year, since it's a "family" holiday - despite the fact that they're not religious and we'd never done anything before. So I suggested that we go the next weekend... But that's his dad's birthday.
BUT.. we're seeing them the weekend before. Obviously, his dad isn't too concerned with WHEN he celebrates his birthday since he was planning to do it a MONTH in advance.
I just feel like I have no objectivity when it comes to stuff like this and his parents because... eating crackers doesn't even BEGIN to cover things.
ETA: PDQ, there may be poofing involved later.
